With that Immense pressure your Cueing Arm would probably feel like a big heavy piece of Lead lol like in the 85 final about that Famous black that Steve missed to leave Dennis on to pot and Win when he was walking up to the table to play the shot he said his legs felt that heavy they didn’t feel like his legs haha

As a 22 year old who’s only been interested in snooker for about 6/7 years - it bewilders me to think that Steve Davis used to be perceived as plain and boring! One of the funniest, most charismatic characters about. What a joy this is ❤️

Even in old clips of Steve, he was always charismatic. I think his style of play was seen to be "machine-like", and then his manager played up the "boring" trope. I never really watched snooker properly but it was part of the tapestry of my childhood in the 80s and 90s, these guys were celebrities. All I've been doing today is watching clips of snooker games and I'm considering actually getting into it.

Even at the time he was my favourite. Was gutted when he lost this one, and again afterwards in such close fashion. He was almost an 8 time champ.

Steves deadpan comedy style with the big ginger wig had me in stitches. He shows hardly any expression, just subtle facial movements and thats proper comedy genius right there.

I have never smiled and laughed so hard inside watching a game of snooker. Such great legends of the sport really nice people and the most unforgettable frame of snooker in history 1985 and all on the black. This video brought me so much happiness.

Snooker is always so dry as the game progresses and usually there is never conversation between players. This was the most enjoyable snooker match I have ever watched by far. Both are great sports.

Funny how things turn around.. Steve now loved by millions, in he's hay day, wasn't to popular because he was winning everything. What a legend he is.

The winning was only part of why he was disliked. He played a safety game and he played slowly. And he barely showed any emotion. Like Mark said, he was working, but the audiences were used to being entertained. Snooker was awash with colourful characters back then and everyone had their favourite. Watching Davis was like watching an 80s football side go 1-0 up then keep passing it back to the keeper for the rest of the match. Yeah it’s a win, but it’s no fun to watch. It blows my mind that Davis had an entertainer hiding in him all along.

Lovely. To have such a dramatic sporting event, and then 20 or 30 years later to have the two participants larking about and taking the piss out of each other - and themselves. They are both a credit to the game, and great television.

steve's interview in the beginning, he used the style he had back in the late 70's and 80's when one of his nicknames was steve "entertaining" davis, because he didn't laughed at all and was very serious all the time.

I remember watching that in my living room as a 14 year old kid. I had school the next day but sat up to 1am glued to that. It was Monday morning the school to. Before they changed the last session to a Monday night. One of the very few occasions where everyone knew exactly where and what they were doing that night all those years ago. Nearly 40 years ago now

I enjoyed this so much! Taking the edge off the game by playing a friendly frame first before getting serious really does work in my experience. It reminds us (club amateur players) that first and foremost, you are friends first, opponents second. Excellent video

steve did a show called a frame with davis where he played a frame with celebrities. whomever the guest was, steve was always by far the funniest. very witty and self deprecating. could easily have been a proper comic if he had wanted. thoroughly good bloke too. was never my favourite player but i grew to love him.

I remembered the 1985 final between Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor. I was only 4 years old and it happened to be on the same day as my Christening. Everyone who attended my Christening coming back to our house for a party afterwards and then watching the final right up to the end. This rematch was brilliant. Very humorous, both Steve and Dennis.

Dennis seemed to be rubbing it in to Davis on here 😂 keeps potting in the pockets he’s not supposed to be, based upon the way he originally played those shots in the final. Talk about the luck of the Irish ☘️

That was one late night snooker match seeing it as a kid. The 1980s had the best sporting moments, that people who were old enough to remember the 1980s remember. Steve davis was like a robot back then, he literally never showed any emotion. You would not think its the same person today, for all those who saw him play back then.

I was a teen and watched this live back in the days wow!! I hated Steve at the time but after he lost I couple times I started to like him, however he was one the all time greatest players regardless

I was 15 at the time one of my favourite sporting moments and even though I wanted Steve to lose he showed after and still shows what a class person both on and off the table he is and also that season Dennis won the grand prix his first ranking win just after his Mum had passed away. They both won their semi finals in with a session to spare were the best two players in that championship

Steve was always one of the funniest players off the baize. He was just so deadpan & concentrated during matches he got the reputation for being boring, exploited by the likes of Spitting image. Just a thoroughly nice bloke.
