My dad actually played with Journey as a fill in for Neil Schon on tour when he was too jacked up to play. They used to have breakfast everyday. I always wanted to meet Neil but it never came to pass. Dad also had a stroke recently and had to have both of legs amputated due to diabetes. I also played this song for him. He loved it. I find myself looking back at these classics and loving them just as much as he does. Seeing him get giddy was so awesome. Wish you the best.

How true! He was very protective and tried to take care of his voice. He wasn’t a dummy like many other singers of the day. Journey isn’t my favorite band, but if I could pick a singing voice for myself it would definitely be his.

I cried when a read she had died in 2022. She was absolutely beautiful. It's hard to believe this song is 40 yrs old as we speak. Maybe that's why I cried. Where has my youth gone? Luckily for me there will always be these songs. Journey was nowhere near my favorite band but no denying Perry was one of the best singers. I could watch the video on repeat for hours. Seems like another universe and it was definitely more innocent times. Keep trucking Steve and RIP Sherrie.

I used to care for a lady , end of life/hospice, and her name was Sherrie. She was a flower child, attended Woodstock Festival, protested and marched for what she believed in. She shared so many awesome stories of her life and I cherish all the laughs and moments we spent until she drifted away painlessly in her sleep. She loved this song. RIP Sherrie.

We can just keep in mind what the Bible says... ie. There - is - going to be a resurrection, so, all the wonderful voices we knew will be right back here again someday in the ", new earth" promised, at Revelation 21 :1-5, with no more tears, and if the want to sing their hearts out once again, they no doubt can forever, for their joy, ours, and the Creator of such voices as Steve Perry's. And what we can do now to one day find ourselves there too, is to... "make sure of all things, (&) hold fast to what is fine"! (1Thess.5 :21, the Bible) We sure have a lot to look forward to!

Travis Johnson no his voice is still amazing, he never lost it. Go listen to “Sunshine’s Gray” that John 5 the guitarist from Rob Zombie co-wrote with him on his new album Traces. I think if you listen to Miljenko from Steelheart and one of his songs She's Gone. you will see what I mean. I love steve Perry also, but Miljenko has the range and power and pure energy to wake the dead, calm the rough seas, Saud the savage beast, and in the end WIN the HEART.. He is deemed the MAHATMA. This song will always remind me of a Sherry from back in the day. We were both CITs in a camp - and though she didn't feel the same about me, I always watched out for her like a hawk (she was injured at the time before coming to camp) - especially if the campers or anyone else got too rough with her. We lost touch shortly after camp when the new school year began. So every time I hear this song, I think of her - and sometimes still wish she gave me that chance.

THE VOICE. This is what many musicians called Steve , regardless of how good they may have been themselves. They, I surmise, just recognized extraordinary vocal talent when they heard it. Personally I was never a huge journey fan growing up but I still love a lot of their songs and especially when Steve was the lead vocalist. Nothing against the new lead singer…he’s fantastic…but Steve Perry was like in the Freddie Mercury class. They could hit almost any note that needed to be hit and I personally think Mercury and Perry are absolutely amazing vocal talents.

Don't forget that Geoff Tate, the original singer of Queensryche, also has a 4 octave range as Steve Perry. However, Tate's vocal range was better, from F♯1 - G♯5.
