A stinger is a sharp uphill climb towards the end of a day's walking. My great walking pal Andy originally coined the phrase. This was part of a super-long (for me) walk of 18 miles. Lovely stuff!
In this walk down the valley of the River Wye there were two Steve's Stingers. I don't mind one, but two! Knackering. The OS map shows the elevation profile of the walk. The "stingers" look dramatic. They felt it too.
