Why is it called, "pre-sales"? I came here expecting to see someone actually SELL a product yet to be released. Am I missing something?

Sale is a contract. Until it's not signed, the sale did not happen. B2B companies hold many business meetings before the actually "Sale". The conversation is one such business meeting.

Then "negotiations" would be a more accurate word. "pre-sales" is commonly recognized as closing on something yet to be released.
