It would be really cool if you could give a roundabout figure of what a motor like this would cost to build. It would give your viewer an idea if they would want to pursue something to that degree or not. If you could do that with each engine you put on the dyno it would be even better.

I'm surprised that Kyle isn't more familiar with tuning pid values, as I know that he tunes a lot of high HP cars. It's not a a huge deal, it's just swinging too far and as a result recovering too far trying to keep the boost regulated. Your wastegate manufacturer won't even be able to tell you exactly what pid value will be best, you will just have to perfect it based on a lot of factors per application. The best resource for learning this is KZfaq and make sure you're not searching for automotive pid tuning in your search, the best videos are people explaining how to tune pid values in a generic sense. Computer geeks that control things through a circuit board use pid values for everything and will explain ensuring that your "P" value isn't too aggressive, thus won't require such an aggressive "I" value in order to bring it back within range and the significance of the "D" value. I like this setup in the video!! That setup is going to get it done with some dome pressure and timing!! Great video!!

Awesome video. I don’t tune cars but do have a lot of experience in PID tuning normally we done play with D as you get a lot of oscillation from the output while trying to control to a setpoint if the process can’t correct as fast as your trying to tell it to go. Play around with “I” as a fine tune to get it to creep up on your setpoint. Look at P as the first big push to getting to a setpoint. You may know this already but hope it helps if you didn’t.

I wouldn't have come out of the 90s that direction with the dump pipes. Looks like some squirrely turbulence possibilities. Just a old pipe fitter opinion.
@skullhart
@skullhart 2 жыл бұрын
26:10 Interesting anomaly on the dome pressure. Wonding if there is a way to add a standalone sensor to verify the surge or investigate turbulence from the union flange where the turbos join. The bend in the tubing on the passenger side turbo might generate just enough vacuum to vortice. A high velosity leak also appears behind the drivers side turbo during the last pull. Lastly, the turbo union could be causing the issue due to its divergent shape which slows air flow and causes pressures to lower. My money is on if you were able to check pressure before and after that union I'd bet you'll see a difference. I'm just a retired jet engine mechanic so take it for what it's worth.
@codylapoint
@codylapoint 2 жыл бұрын
I also thought that the merge point looks a little questionable. The way it steps up in size right after could cause a low pressure pocket to form and cause the air to swirl back creating turbulence.

I think you guys are the best in the business hands down. I just have one question about some of these twin turbo setups I see (not just yours)… why not use mirror image turbos? From a plumbing/aesthetics standpoint it just looks odd. Is there a technical reason for not using RH/LH housing? Keep up the great work! I hope your channel and business in general continue to grow. You deserve it!

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. With mirror image, you have to carry a left and right turbo in the event of a failure. I do love the look of a mirror image setup!
@Dr_Mike2
@Dr_Mike2 2 жыл бұрын
@Jordan, you're correct. So with mirror image you have to have 4 turbos total to have a spare on hand. With standard turbos, you only have to have 3, because they're all interchangeable. However, I'm guessing this motor to be @ $70k you'd think another $4k for an extra turbo would be more an investment than a financial burden.

Pondering on Cletus issues with the mandrel on Mullet led me to wonder if there is good reason to put a pickup on the fuel pump pulley. If a setup has enough inputs monitoring that rotation could be an engine saver ?? Maybe same on the oil pump pulley ?? Shutting the engine off after we fail to see something like 5 pulley rotations on either one would be better than the lean condition shutting it off at peak HP and 1000' typical engine RPM ?
