If I have a complaint about harassment or if I'm asked to report to Starbase One, I'm still grabbing my *Starfleet Union rep* on my way. Point being each of these "clones" have the same Rights as the Original. Seems unfair to not allow them to continue on with their lives... There's a Wesley Crusher scene from one episode of TNG where he's at the academy and a big guy with webbed hands bumps into him and then due to alien cultural misunderstanding the big guy starts shouting at Wesley. Then he shouts back and the guy treats him as a friend. Then Wesley explains to his girlfriend for that episode that the web hand guy's people see courtesy as an insult, so you need to be rude as hell to keep them calm. That episode did two things. It implied Star Fleet has no need for an HR department because apparently every recurring character and nepobaby knows the customs of every single known species out there. It also established a species whose language or culture operates on a seemingly clever idea for one scene in a show, but would never actually work in practice. It sounds cool to have say an entire language is based on reciting references to scenes from that alien culture's version of the Prose Edda, but that's not how language works. Not at all. This is actually an issue he covered in his Star Fleet JAG corps video. Having a show about the space station that hosts the HR department, the JAG corps, and the office of the chief guidance counselor sounds cool, but literally every other show in the franchise has multiple episodes where the bridge crew do those things without training or consulting those offices. Or worse yet, the character most hated by the fans at that time literally Mary Sue knew it alls his way through those issues.

Great video! What profession is next? Logistics? Law Enforcement? Recruitment? Teaching?
@scorinth

What in the world does logistics even look like in a "post scarcity society"? It seems like the only times we see anybody transporting anything, it's some thing that's only valuable because it _magically_ can't be replicated and that seems to give whoever has it license to be unconscionably nasty without any repercussions because they're the only way the Federation can get that thing they need. Funny that we never see the Federation go back for a resupply run... You know, I was skeptical when I started typing, but now your idea seems like a real banger! I hope to see Steve cover it. 😊

Love these oft underrepresented jobs in Starfleet. From a lore perspective they make sense, and from a comedy perspective they are pure latinum. I would love to see more of them, maybe starfleet PR? Get the person on the other side of the holo-imager that has to shuttle it to all these places and interview beings for the catalogues, or document officers after big events.

These are some of my favorite videos. There is comedy, but also it seems like it could legitimately fit in with Star Trek canon. There is a lot the shows never cover about how the less glamorous jobs get done. Dirty Jobs: Star Trek edition
