Thank you. I've been sewing for for 60 years and that was the best lesson on this I've ever heard. I've never thought twice about the 2.5 stitch length for almost everything but I will be adjusting my habits right away.

Sometimes I need my attention drawn to something before I think about it!

This was something I didn't know I needed to hear. I was sandwiching a hot pad and trying to zigzag stitch binding on. My machine kept missing stitches (a lot of them!) and I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I am a novice sewer so I assumed either my thread tension was wrong or my machine was just broken with that stitch type. You made complete sense though...so I am willing to try again. Thank you!

Skipping stitches is commonly a problem with the needle. I have a video "Top 5 reasons your sewing machine is not stitching." Make sure everything is working on straight stitch on two layers of regular firm fabric, then gradually introduce the confounding factors one at a time. Good luck!

I occasionally top stitch handles for bags and never changed the length from the default 2.4. The handles are also thicker stitching and should be lengthened. Thanks.

What’s wrong with looking homemade?
@SharynsSewingSchool2 ай бұрын
It isn't a problem to look home made if that is the look you are going for! Most people want their garments to be indistinguishable from purchased garments, or even better. If the stitch length is "wrong" compared to what people are accustomed to seeing in purchased garments it can be off putting in a way that we have trouble defining. 🙂
