I’ve been looking for a solution to my problem. I have 4 horizontal QAYG rows with 6 quilted rectangular blocks in each row. I attached the 4 horizontal rows using zig zag stitching, then covered the seams on front and back with Marti Mitchel’s iron on batting tape to flatten and contain all stitching. I like how yours looks with the narrow blue sashing, however, no matter how carefully I pin the sashing, the two sides do not align, one over the other. However, I did not copy what you did. I tried to attach both the long top sashing and the back row sashing strips AT THE SAME TIME. I’ve tried this twice, but as I said above, the front and back ( or the top layer sash and the bottom layer sash) do not lie meshed together. After all this work I really don’t want to cut the rows apart to apply the front and back above and below each other, and then try to attach that to the adjacent row. Can you tell me of another method of connecting these rows?
@SharynsSewingSchoolАй бұрын
I am with you, trying to apply the tape to the top and bottom at the same time would drive me insane! If the back of your quilt is not important to you, then a whole cloth backing just attached as the tape is added might be the best option. How big are the blocks?

If you push the switch down into the area marked "2" you have set the machine to 2 thread overlocking. It is highly unlikely you will ever do two thread overlocking but it changes all the internal tensions on the machine!

Can I do twin needling on the jamone fd206?

You will be able to do twin needle on each of the straight stitches and probably the medium zigzag. Hand wind through the zigzag to make sure it is not going to hit the sides.

Hi Sharon. Can I ask if the vertical joining strips @ 2.31 are sewn all the way down in one piece from top to bottom or do they only cover each set of designs being joined. I can see the horizontal joining strips are in one piece. I ask because I have seen other quilters leave a gap at both ends of the squares when sewing the vertical strips. Perhaps to eliminate bulk where they cross over?
@SharynsSewingSchoolАй бұрын
Hi there, I use full strips both vertically and horizontally. Although it is possible to break them up if I don't have long enough strips, I then need to be very careful lining them up so I avoid dog legs in the underneath pieces.

I wanted information regarding the RE1306 bobbin and insertion which appears to be totally different to this machine 😬
@SharynsSewingSchool2 ай бұрын
Hi there, yes the bobbin is a "front loader" not a "top loader" in the RE1306. In most other respects the two machines are very similar. I currently have access to a front loader, which I will be filming soon. In the meantime, the Janome 1008 has the same kind of bobbin set up as your machine. Hopefully someone has a video up about it that can help you out!

Yes, I would tend to call these hand embroidery too. I imagine that there are thousands of sets of squares out there covering all kinds of hand work. Unfortunately many people are not sure how to turn them into a finished quilt. Hopefully this series will give people the chance to complete them.

If you are looking at buying one of these machines, might I suggest you look at one level up, the FD216, as it gives you full control of stitch width and length, plus it adds stretch stitches. If you can afford to go a bit higher in price, it is worth it! 😉

What’s wrong with looking homemade?
@SharynsSewingSchool2 ай бұрын
It isn't a problem to look home made if that is the look you are going for! Most people want their garments to be indistinguishable from purchased garments, or even better. If the stitch length is "wrong" compared to what people are accustomed to seeing in purchased garments it can be off putting in a way that we have trouble defining. 🙂

This was something I didn't know I needed to hear. I was sandwiching a hot pad and trying to zigzag stitch binding on. My machine kept missing stitches (a lot of them!) and I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I am a novice sewer so I assumed either my thread tension was wrong or my machine was just broken with that stitch type. You made complete sense though...so I am willing to try again. Thank you!
@SharynsSewingSchool2 ай бұрын
Skipping stitches is commonly a problem with the needle. I have a video "Top 5 reasons your sewing machine is not stitching." Make sure everything is working on straight stitch on two layers of regular firm fabric, then gradually introduce the confounding factors one at a time. Good luck!

Can you use wider strips like a 2 1/2 inch or wider or do you have to use 1 inch between your blocks
@SharynsSewingSchool2 ай бұрын
On this one I was using half inch tape. I have used one inch, but when I go wider than that, it is harder to get the fabric tape to sit flat. Hope that helps!
