@O-Wolf He talked about this with a few other popular KZfaqr, one being Seth, and essentially they talked about how he has an ego but he doesn't train to validate his ego. Everybody has an ego as it's what makes us individuals, but he doesn't allow it to overule and diminish the quality of his training by trying to feed it. Our ego is simply how we view ourselves in society, and how we use that to navigate it. I know what you mean, but it makes more sense to say "he doesn't train with his ego" or "he leaves his ego at the door" as opposed to "he has no ego". It's a very common misconception though

@@MMAShredded , these breakdowns are awesome - would love to see more about this specifically, as well as other feign/fake/juke (?) moves. In practicing this, what would the top vulnerabilities/risks be when launching this correctly? What are the likeliest ways to screw this one up? What's the best way to respond to it or guard against it? (i.e. - most of the time that knee comes up = inside low kick, so probably not helpful to always guard against a feigned low/switched to high kick, but if someone has launched this already and you think it might be coming again, is there a neutral defense that kinda works for either, or even a counter that works for either?

My very first style I studied was Isshinryu Karate, and this was my spam move lol. One very well placed side kick with the heel will sit almost anyone down. Then you can really aim it anywhere. Hip, thigh, knee, sternum, ribs, abs, arms or chin....it really doesnt discriminate.

This kick and footwork was my bread and butter, but I learned it from a TKD base. Rear leg slide is the star of this show. Since all kicks start with a raised knee, I use this slide + a more squared MT stance which lets me feint into punches, elbows, and teeps too. Most people think you need to be in a bladed stance to smoothly transition into a side kick but you’d be surprised how easily you can disguise it from less traditional positions.

Another way to use this kick is to throw a roundhouse that "misses". This baits them inwards. When the roundhouse "misses" your side stance is loaded making it super easy to throw and land the side kick as they come in.
