Automatrics received an area alarm as this £60K hire car traveled from the UK to Calais on the Chunnel crossing. Our customers could not contact the driver and confirmed the car had been stolen through a fraudulent hire. Lots of high value Range Rovers have been stolen over recent years as they are targeted by organised crime.
We tracked the stolen Range Rover from Calais Holiday Inn to a shopping park nearby where colleagues in France attended to proceed to let the tyres down by removing the valves.
Automatrics accompanied by our customers security manager armed with the spare keys travelled from the UK to snatch the stranded car back later that afternoon.
Big thanks to the team in France and Mel coordinating the recovery operation. Cracking Job ! …..Très bien mes amis !!
You can purchase this system here www.trackersecu...

Having sold GPS tracking alarms a decade ago, what I know from hard won experience is no one who hasn’t already had a expensive car boat or bobcat etc stolen before ever buys them! Everyone thinks “It will never happen to me” - until it does! A fair %age of idiots believe the myth, “that’s what I pay insurance for & my insurer will make me whole again”, until it happens and they only get market value less excess etc and end up $10k out of pocket once (if) they get a payout! I recall one old lady had her car stolen and THEN bought a gps tracker off us for her replacement car, which not long afterwards was also stolen. She couldn’t remember what to do since the tracker had only been in the car for a couple weeks so rang us, & we tracked it, to barely 50 yards around the corner from her house in a side street! She took her key and walked around the corner, got in and started it up & drove back home pleased as punch. No real visible damage to the car, trip meter showed around 150kms had been put on it, and about half a tank of petrol gone. Lady said she wasn’t going to ring police because there was no damage to need to claim insurance, and the Police might think she was losing her mind and just forgot where she parked it! So we downloaded it’s entire “black box” memory of everywhere it had been in the previous 24 hours, and asked if she would object if WE contacted police about it having been stolen? She said no objection, so we made a report about all the places it had stopped during its stolen journey! Turned out Police had 2 burglary reports from the first to addresses reported that morning! 3rd address, belonged to someone convicted previously of receiving stolen goods (ie a “fence”). 4 th place it stopped was a petrol service station, & when Police obtained video footage from the servo at the time date stamped - they got footage of the driver getting out of the stolen car & buying cigarettes! Next place it stopped was a rental address & the tenants drivers license photo matched the servo video images of the driver of the stolen car! Last place it stopped was around the corner from where he stole it, which is where we had tracked it to, for its owner! So in essence this burglar was in the habit of stealing a car, going out and doing a couple of break & enter burglaries, drop past his fences house and sell the stolen gear, go past a servo & buy smokes, drop past his rental house & give his spouse his nights “earnings”, dump the car around the corner from where he stole it and walk back home puffing on a smoke! He got jailed for his efforts, the fence likewise also got convicted, the 2 burglary victims got their stolen gear back, & the old lady got her replacement vehicle back, all due to the gps tracker & it’s little aeroplane like black box memory! But no one who hasn’t had a car stolen at least once and learned the lesson the hard way will outlay $ to buy & install them! It’s human nature, not only can’t you sell the gps trackers, you can’t give the bloody things away. People are too stupid, I demonstrated the trackers to millionaires even who all reckoned they were terrific but not one of them actually bought one! People deserve to have their sh!t stolen, it’s the only way they learn the hard lessons in life. You can’t help people who don’t want to be helped! Criminals these days have developed a system for theft of expensive vehicles & equipment these days, they steal it then go park it in a dead end cull de sac industrial area on a Friday night, and they sit inside their mates factory unit drinking beer, and eating pizza & watching to see if anyone shows up to recover the vehicle for 24 - 48 hours in case it has gps tracking fitted! If no one shows up to recover it THEN, they go and strip it to sell for parts or truck it interstate to “ re- birth” it and license & sell it!

@@IbericaOverland I think they are cheap / affordable, available & better than nothing. The units I used to sell had the whole 6 week wet cell backup internal power supply and the black box memory recorder that you could download, they had remote engine disable feature. You could ring the Police and say you were tracking your stolen car / boat in real time and when they got behind it ready to effect an arrest - you could remote disable the engine from your mobile phone via menu option 6. It would mimic a run out of fuel situation, where the gas / fuel gauge dropped to zero, the lowest fuel warning light came on, and the engine started to misfire / stall as if it was out of fuel before quitting completely. This allowed whoever was driving time to pull over to a safe spot thinking they were out of Gas, only yo have the Police pull in behind them and make an arrest. You can’t compare a $45 air tag to a $2k theft recovery gps gsm tracking remote disable alarm system. If you loaned your car to one of your kids you could set a over speed alarm & would ring you the moment your pre set speed was exceeded, then you could remote fisable the engine so your kid thought they were out of gas, instead of trying to see how fast dads car can go on the freeway. There were a host of features - a gps fence cordon, if it moved 100 yards from where you parked it because it was being towed it would ring you & let you know etc. Apple air tags do non of this BUT they are better than NOT being able to track your car.

Except that they can be bypassed by any competant theif. Whatever they say, and this compagny will not like you to know this, good theif are aware that there is tracking devices that transmit the position. What they often do is steal the car, put it in a box truck or a container. The metal block all radiowaves. First thing it kill is the GPS signal. The gps being fed by many satellite is a very weak signal and is easy to actually kill. Proof: most GPS unit will not work inside your house. Then of course, it will prevent the transmission of the tracking device, as it will be blocked by the metal. Then they will work inside the truck/container or inside a warehouse, or even a garage. Wherever they do it, all they need is a faraday cage, which is easy to make. A container is already one. A simple metalic "6 walls" will do the trick. Then, scan the car with a receiver to see where there is a signal transmission. You found the antenna. Follow the wire and you get to the module. Remove it. Repeat until there is no more transmission at all. Of course, it get a bit more complex than this, but this give you an idea of the process. They succede to remove even passive devices, which basically are RFID tag like: it need to get some radio signal, it convert the signal back to electricity, power itself with it, then it can transmit back. This require no battery and can be a real issue to locate, as they can also be programmed to reply only if hit by the proper code. Yet, some theif succede to remove all of them. So this system that use cellular network WILL transmit on a regular basics (mandatory for cellular network operation) and with a powerfull signal. It HAVE to be connected to a permanant power source, which ain't that common in a car. Under the hood, under the dash. That's it. It most likelly won't be under the hood, too hot, too wet, too obivious. Under the dash it goes. Any real car mechanics should be able to identify it and remove it without issue. It just take time. Fortunatelly, most theif are idiots. They claim 98% recovery rate, chance is that it is 98% of idiots, 2% of proper theif.

Yes we agree there are also key differences with an amateur or professional thief. Guess that’s a further reason for those exposed to super talented bandits to consider a professional theft recovery system say over a standard GPS tracker, to improve chances of a successful theft recovery outcome.

Devan Velo The point of involving the police is to have the criminal prosecuted and (even if only temporarily) prevent others from becoming victims. >out of jurisdiction You can't evade jurisdictions inside the EU. You're one of those "libertarian" cultists, aren't you? So you probably believe that we shouldn't even have police or those annoying laws which stop people with a little bit of money making up their own rules and simply handing over some cash when caught, Latin America style. If the private company executed or broke the arms and legs of the criminal, you might have a point, but they don't, they don't even involve the police because less thefts = less revenue for the repo men. These parasites are in a symbiotic relationship with the theives, like glaziers who pay children to smash windows during the night.

Problem with citizens arrest ( by physical force ) is that the arrester can be charged with imprisonment even if the driver is carrying out a criminal act. You can only detained an individual with minimal force, and that is only if police are on their way. However in this case no police were called. So was the driver picked up in the UK upon entry by boarder customs or the police ! ?

Sorry to hear about your car theft .... just out of interest you had to claim on your insurance, so then are you expecting that a high value your fault claim will be tagged onto your insurance profile ? If so we thought that claim record was then shared and would significantly increase insurance premiums for the next premiums 5 years ? Not trying to do a sales pitch on this........we just had so many viewers of our channel outside the UK say their insurance premiums are not increased after a theft claim. So we just wanted to get our facts straight. :)

Well theft by fraud is one of the most common methods to pinch vehicles these days. The clients security dept conducted their paperwork checks in this situation and immediately concluded the car was being stolen through fraud. This was further endorsed when another car hire company reported that the same guy had additionally hired another Range Rover on the same day and that they were now unable to contact the driver after their tracking system went dead. There are often professional employees in car hire company to detect this type of theft.

Minutes later, they came back to me and said " They say they dont have it" What? Then they threatened to arrest me for saying I'm going to recover it myself. I staked out the house, she the bike leaving, followed, call the cops, who did come out and make an arrest, but they read me the riot act and said I shouldn't have done this. What? @Dave Klonpenberg The car was rented and stolen from England, I'm guessing the thieves would also have been English? These luxury cars are stolen, taken abroad, given new identities and sold on, it's a huge business done on an industrial scale, literally gangs and gangs of organised thieves who mostly steal to order. The UK police had jurisdiction as the thieves would have to pass back through customs and border control to get home lol they seriously wouldn't be hard to find as they would have been on the next ferry or Eurostar lol 👍😎 The police are happy for these gangs to carry on regardless and turn a blind eye, these guys who sell these trackers are happy to let thieves carry on their activities, after all it makes good business sense🤔😯😮🙁🤨 The British car owners pick up the costs in increased insurance premiums and costs of these trackers 🙁🤨🤔

Apparently so, it would be then registered in France from the UK crime record....although we guess it would take time and perseverance to push it all through, something we felt could jepardise the recovery situation, much better to snatch it back on this occasion.

Quick question. If your client reports the vehicle stolen to police, presumably they will also have reported it to their insurance company. Will the insurance company then cover the cost of vehicle recovery ? I realise that you won't want to go into what you charged the client in this particular case but I'm assuming it was a considerable cost given the logistics involved.

With the vehicle being marked as stolen police could have held it until they made further enquiries and received official documentation. Due to the relationship that the recovery agent and investigator have with the police they were able to satisfy police that they and the circumstances of the vehicle transport were genuine.

If you read the comments you'd learn that this was a recovery led by the vehicle owner and recovery company. The police, at either end, were not involved other than on the UK side for putting the vehicle on PNC which is why it got stopped on the return leg. I can assure you and all other doubters that this isn't a "scam". Had this been left with the police to deal with I doubt the vehicle would have been recovered as quickly as it was, if at all.

No crime can be reliably acted upon by local law enforcement unless it is first logged on the home country police computer systems.... it’s just how international crime support works. We knew the crime was not showing on UK PNC so as such we would not receive local police support (unless a new crime was being committed etc) . Its also very hard for hire car companies to obtain a theft registration as many cars are just late back, so they need supporting evidence etc.

Yeah sure ... but the client (an Ex police officer who knows the rules) could have had the driver arrested by the French police. He only decided not to call it in on this occasion due to delays on the PNC which meant the French Police could not act easily to support us until the UK computer update came through via Interpol links. We could have requested Police to the scene and chosen to argue the case until the PNC report was live but the client choose not to do that ...... so that was the real message we were trying to convey in the video log :)

They are not independent tested to any known security tracking standard, they are very easy to jam GPS signals and have have no possibility to work indoors where there are no GPS signals. We track assets back even without GPS signals. We can 100% reassure you that this is not fake news, we are just doing a job that we are paid to do. Things are different in the United States. Over here that driver would have been arrested anyway even if the car wasn't already reported stolen. Plenty of evidence to arrest him, since he was found driving a car that he could not prove he was authorized to drive. Additionally, you being pulled over in that car after it was reported stolen would have resulted in a felony stop, which means you would have been taken out of the car at gunpoint and arrested until you could explain the situation.
