Injury-proof your body (and get strong and ripped in the process!)
athleanx.com/x/...
Ankle sprains and twisted ankles are by far one of the most common injuries suffered by both men and women. The critical importance of the ankle joint, as well as it's roll as one of the first links in the kinetic chain, make it vulnerable to being sprained and injured.
In this video, I show you how to stop sprained ankle injuries before they happen with 3 quick exercises or drills. The biggest problem with ankle injuries is that once you incur them, you often times wind up having it happen again. Once the ligaments are compromised in the ankle joint, the muscles are often simply not strong enough to take over. That is, unless you were training your ankles with the right exercises and focus all along.
I show you in this video how most people focus on mobilizing their ankle and calf muscles while stabilizing their ankle joints. What they should be doing is exactly the opposite! If you want to fortify your ankle joints you need to start mobilizing them and building up stability in your lower leg muscles.
The leg swing exercises shown here will do just that. Most people think that these are not ankle exercises since they focus on the moving leg. However, if you look at the stresses being applied to the ankle on the ground you'll see just how effective these can be for getting the mobility you need to prevent injury to this vulnerable joint.
Grade II and III ankle sprains (as well as high ankle sprains) can be serious injuries that are tough to truly come back 100 percent from. It's better to learn the right things you can do either before you hurt them or even after just the first few times, to prevent you from having this happen over and over again.
For a complete plan for bullet proofing your body (beyond just your ankles) and getting the perfect balance of mobility and stability in your muscles and joints, be sure to head to athleanx.com and get your ATHLEAN-X Training System.

Excellent video! I broke my 5th Metatarsal playing soccer, but I am determined to get back and surpass my skill level. I broke my foot because the goal tender pushed me out of mid-air and I landed on the outside of my foot. After a mild depression I promised myself I would strengthen my ankles and get back to soccer and redeem myself. In any case, every other video I've watched said simply stand on one foot, or use resistive bands, but this is the first video that actually makes sense. You seem like you really thought it through, and I am going to make this part of my daily routine. Thanks alot!

@MadJDMTurboBoost
@MadJDMTurboBoost 8 жыл бұрын
+Andru Sexton Sorry for the late reply, I healed within 2 months! In case anyone is wondering, I took calcium/vitamin D supplements, and drank protein shakes every day to promote healing. Also, as soon as I could safely put weight on it (slight discomfort is ok, but pain is bad) I would walk on it as much as possible. It's hard at first, and I wore my aircast boot, then a shoe (even in my house), but the more you use a bone, the faster it heals. I'm back at soccer, and better than before!

I've been up on this info for a while. I have never been a "Chronic" ankle sprainer until this year. I have been a basketball player since being a kid. I am now 31 years old. My injuries started coming this year (Sprained each ankle at different times). This is all useful information and all people should heed the lessons taught here, but I want to be clear on a few things for certain people. As you age connective tissue looses much of its elasticity naturally. Proprioceptive exercises and flexibility exercises can help this to a degree, but if you are in your 30's and you still play high impact sports like basketball you really should either tape or get some supports for those ankles when playing. That said, you should not tape or support your ankles when training because that will prevent the ankles from being strengthened. Basketball, and football are sports where "things" happen to ankles. Many strength coaches sometimes give false impressions about what people should do in competition. I understand where they are coming from and they are right in many ways except for when guys are out there playing. If your gonna mix it up on the court, I'd recommend taping up, but do what you do.

i am chronic ankle person . I sprained it three times ago in sports and jumping on a umper and socker. It finally gave out and i broke my ankle , i needed surgery and have screws. I will be doing these excercises in a week if i get my cast removed . your ankle is one of the hardest working joints in your body and never new how important my ankle is untill now. Hamstring excercises are alot diffrent to working your ankles . Thanks for the video.I was one of those guys working on calfs.

Been suffering from a non definitive moment type ankle pain for the past three days. Just did these exercises/stretches and my pain is 80% gone in one set!!! Of course I had to do this bilaterally so that my right ankle stays strong too. I am in absolute gratitude to you for sharing this knowledge!

My right ankle was chronically sprained for several years in my teens, and that ankle hasn't been happy with my comeback. The pain and limited range of motion you describe is spot on. The fibular forward movement you talk about in your other video is probably at play. I will definitely start all these drills!

I'm 66. first nasty sprain was when I was 32 while mt biking, bad enough I was in a soft cast. Every 10 years since, another sprain, same ankle. Last Spring, while doing yard work, I stepped on a branch on the ground... krunch! I went right down, dropped like a rock. almost a year later, its still not fully healed. Thanks for this. I've always been athletic, and sprains cramp my style.

Have sprained each ankle in the last 6 months in non weight bearing situations. First right ankle sitting with right lower leg resting on left knee, relaxed and shaking my foot along to music . I felt my ankle bones open away from each other and twang shut again. The pain was incredible and took a couple of months to be pain free. The other ankle went as I stood leaning with my weight on my right. My left relaxed , I felt it open again but fought the urgent tense up , slowly moving. Still took a couple of weeks of ice and massage. If I cycle I can feel them both trying to pop out. I am definitely going to do this video every day and report back in a month, this is giving me hope - Thanks

Good video. For me when I was playing football my ankle used to sprain a lot. Then I started doing calf raises on stairs barefooted and my ankles are now solid. I think doing the calf raised barefooted really helped me because you start to use really small muscle groups which help facilitate the muscle integrity in the ankles.

Glad to see that the legs swings I've been doing are good for this. I don't know if I've actually sprained my ankle, but most days that I run or do leg workouts, my left ankle hurts on the outside tendon that rides on my outer ankle bone. Seems like tendon inflammation, but not an actual sprain. I'm gonna try adding your front and side reaches to my warmup. Already doing leg swings.

Yeah, As a long time rugby player I did a compound fracture Left Ankle, tib/fib break and have been doing exactly what you are saying. The mobility stability parts are quite the opposite. I like the front to back move but really like the leg swing. So as a coach I have athletes coming to me asking how to strengthen their ankles this was great! I asked a young athlete why do you have those full up ankle type rugby shoes on? he says to protect my ankles... Love your stuff.

Excellent stuff! I was doing more ankle/calf exercises before, then switched to theraband based ones. However, i think this can really improve mobility significantly when done regularly.

Hi, I hurt (tore) my Posterior Tibial some years ago, I was given a type of ankle support & an exercise, but it took years for the pain to go away & 'support' made my work boots too tight. Two days ago it's hurt again after intensive mountain bike ride. Swollen above & below the ankle joint on the Posterior Tibial Tendon. Doing the exercises in this video helped me straight away! Before this, I was lost as to what exercise could improve the situation. Thanks

Hey jeff Im so grateful for your vids! Your vids have really helped me transform my body and your knowledge is impeccable. I have a lot of problems with my achilles tendon. I play basketball and when I jump off 1 foot for a dunk I don't feel any pain at all but when Im done with practice, I can barely even bend my foot because my achilles pain is unbearable. It gets so stiff and painful. If you could post a vid on strengthing the achilles tendon and preventing injury that would be awesome! Thanks

Dance major are doing all these n they likely take as just routine not realizing it is all built in order for them to perform all that turns, leaps, extending anyone can see dance performance, esp. Ballet, n ballet application jazz dance.

Excellent video and advice. I play basketball in my spare time when the weather is warm. Nothing competitive but with friends and pick up games. Ankle sprains are very common, I do hope to use these tips to reduce the sprains.

Very beneficial information, thank you! Been involved in martial arts & Tactical Combatives for years. Usually only sprain my ankles running & I don't notice my foot moving but I can certainly feel a burn in the muscles surrounding the joints. Thanks again

Def going to incorporate these exercises, thank you. I sprained my ankle minor sprain a few months ago, it healed, then I stepped wrong and restrained worse. Trying to stay off of IBP, been stretching. Need to do these exercises and elevate. Hoping for the pain to go away, my ankle is screaming at me and it's bothering my leg...tight calf muscles perhaps, I sit at a desk all day and have two toddlers.

Thank you so much for the video. I sprained my ankle 1 year ago, and even if i am training, it is still weaker than normal. Hopefully tour exercises will help.

It's ridiculous that your stretching and joint health videos get the least views.. Thank you for making them, though. PLEASE make a whole playlist/series on *static and dynamic stretches + mobility*!

I definitely have exactly the chronic ankle sprains you’re talking about for 10 years and I try these exercises and another one of your ankle videos where you put the rubber band on the joint and move the tibia or move their foot bone… And doing these two videos within one day just before exercising again, 6 inches on my vertical.
