I wanna share this with fellow handlers who understand my frustration. At work today I was talking with a girl about my service dog. I had mentioned that I'm in the process of getting her approved as an accommodation and she looked at me like she didn't believe I actually had one (she had mentioned she had esa's turned down before) and I clarified that I did and she was task trained. I asked about her esa's cause i was gonna offer to help her task train her but she then told me they were cats. And i was like 'ahhh i was gonna offer to help you task train them but cats arent legally recognized as service animals. Which does suck cause they can be trained, but only dogs and miniature horses can legally be service animals under the ada law.' She then informed me she had a service ferret before and used to bring him everywhere. I was like gobsmacked. Like mam. That's not legal, they don't have public access rights even if you train them :/

I agree with most of what you said, but some people with SDs of their own, seak out so called 'fake SDs' and harass them and that is not ok. You're not allowed to harass other disabled people just because they don't look like it to you, that is being a Karen. Other than that, yes, stop trying to talk to our dogs when they are on duty, it's is hazardous to our health. Especially young children, please teach your kids to be respectful.

Firstly, this isn’t my audio, and I always have the originals linked in the description and in the comments. Secondly, I agree with you for the most part! I think fake spotting can be really harmful to our community. There are places and spaces where it makes sense though, like when your in Walmart and an untrained dog is being pulled by their owner, lunging, and barking at you and your Service Dog. That’s where I will talk to management and ask for my Service Dog’s protection and rights to be honored. I’m not someone who films every dog I see and automatically assumes they are fakes. However, when the dog isn’t acting like a Service Dog should, that’s when I have no issue protecting Ollie and I as a team. I usually prefer to speak to the employee rather than filming the “fake” and start yelling at the people…(unless they start to be combative (or Karen’s) themselves). All I want is for Ollie and I to be respected and to be understood. Standing up for our rights as a team doesn’t make me a “Karen”.

I always avoid fakes but one I was bringing my cardiac alert service dog into Walmart and a fake service dog ran right up to her and tried to get her and I had to protect her and to tell the owner to get their and leave because it is not a service dog and a teacher at my school has a fake service dog and whenever I see her I keep a safe distance away and the fake keeps barking and lunging at my service dog if that dog was not on a leash it would run to attack my service dog that dog has put me in many medical episodes I just hope that dog never comes again and dog is way past when they should be ritired if he was real so even if he was well behaved he is a old boy I just hope I never see that dog again

@evalisabowers8898 8 ай бұрын
So service dogs are usually owner trained. And people make mistakes in their training. Dogs are also independent animals and are prone to mistakes as they are not a programmable piece of equipment. You are not protecting you and your dog’s rights by trying to rid the community of people who haven’t mastered the skills necessary for a well trained sd. Get a little perspective… stay in your lane… as long as you and your dog are in unison and you are safe, why would you want to call a manager on someone? You have no idea what that person’s situation is. Their dog could have been misappropriated as a public access sd and would be a great sd for them at home. You have trained your dog very well. Your dog should not be phased by any of these situations. Or maybe you should have a manager called on you? Or maybe your dog is not really ready for public access either. People are going to be curious, not understanding, and want to pet your dog no matter how many signs you post on your dog. You don’t train people. You train your dog to handle these type of situations

But tell me why all the videos of the dogs getting harassed end up being the handlers being extremely combative for no reason? Also you can be denied access to any privatized buildings if it's in regards to your dog and not your disability because you don't have to have a disability to have a service dog legally.
@celli3000
@celli3000 Жыл бұрын
You actually do have to have a disability to have a service dog. It's the law. They have to be task trained to help you with a disability. And as a handler myself I have had attitude with people before because of how often we deal with this stuff. No one educates themselves and then act accordingly, whether that be allowing their children to chase us or run up to us and pet our dog without asking, asking us invasive questions because it's apparently our duty to educate them, telling their children or dogs to look at us and say hi, cooing at our dogs, etc... it's extremely annoying but the dogs are necessary for our health and wellbeing. And we don't owe anyone respect if they're being disrespectful themselves whether they're intending it or not.

This reply to this comment is perfect. I’m sick and tired of us handlers being the ones to educate ignorant people on SDs….like, why can’t people just GOOGLE IT!? It takes 3 minutes. Just google it before leaving a negative comment, people! Thank you for writing this reply so I didn’t have to 😅

@@celli3000 no you don't, under us law it specifically states there are no registrations or trainings required and you don't have to provide proof of a disability to anyone. Registration can be done through some states but it's usually not required in every state. They don't have to have any training as long as they don't disrupt the peace. I used to train service dogs, you guys do act entitled especially when people are not being combative. It's also not anyone's job to educate themselves on things they may very well never encounter, you don't get to expect other people give you anything but basic respect and courtesy that's not something you're entitled to. Maybe you should be required to educate yourself on every disability to deal with its needs no matter how uncommon, or educate yourself on meteors because it *could* be interacting with your life in the future. This is really stupid logic. Correct them then, it's not hard to be nice don't be rude to people but then expect them to not be rude to you. You don't have to engage, just don't? It's not that hard to walk away from someone and if it becomes an issue let staff know or don't frequent that place again. Every place ever has more than one grocery store you can find another if it becomes an issue. You're mad that people react the same way to your dog they would every other dog they come across? By your logic your dog should be trained to not be affected in order to be a service dog so this shouldn't matter. My point is that teams are usually the disrespectful ones in videos and day to day life. Not that you should respect people who disrespect you.
@pequenaesposa3286

@@Chronically.sarahdayton I've interacted with hundreds of teams and potential handlers, the fact you choose to ignore how rude, inconsiderate and entitled you guys act as a whole is sad. Really now go watch the videos of people who film their every day lives with a service dog, watch how many creators will actively instigate a conflict. There's countless I could link where kids act like kids and get out of hand to go up to them and the handler gets in a full on argument over it, notice how all the handlers are extremely young who post? That's because every handler I've ever interacted with under 25 feels they are entitled to things they aren't. You can't sue someone for looking at your service dog or even touching it, you can only sue if an establishment has prevented your dog from doing something that caused you actual damage. You guys are so annoying. FYI, I'm also a handler and own 4 trained service dogs at the moment. They have to be taken out regularly to keep up training and no I don't get harassed ever, not when I lived on the west coast or the east coast.

These "emotional support animal" people are always Karen's who flip out on kids for wanting to pet or comment on a dog that you brought into Applebee's. Try getting a personality. It's not our fault you ain't getting any ****”
