* Don't use bobby pins that are broken * Don't scratch dry scalp, instead wet your scalp and massage. * For greasy scalp, wash hair and apply water based serums instead of oil based ones, & wash hair more frequently * Don't oil scalp with coconut oil as it clogs your pores, use it for your hair only * In general the scalp doesn't need oil * keep styling products away from the scalp as it can clog the scalp * Avoid hairstyles that are too tight for the scalp, e.g tight ponytails * Avoid baking soda rinses, it can damage your scalp & hair

I love the way you take your time to explain things about the hair/scalp it truly shows you care and know what you are talking about. Thank you for not using "quick fix remedies" that don't work and giving your audience the basic truth about products, and hair and scalp.

Thanks so much for this valuable information Karen! I use your hair drops when my scalp feels itchy. A quick massage after the drops calms the itch. I use your product line, IT WORKS!!! The peppermint comes through in the shampoo and conditioner 😊. My scalp feels so refreshed on wash day. Be blessed and THANK YOU 🌹

Hi aunt k You look beautiful as always ❤ It's funny you talk about bobby pins...I have a lot of them and I don't even use them..some are super old. Time to just throw them out

Thanks so much for the tips ! I believe u about the Bobby pins . If I see one missing a bob I don’t use it , it definitely hurts . I also don’t reuse one if I see color peeling off. I remember those ponytails i had one and the amount of bobby pins used was crazy and lots of them felt like they were drilling a hole into the middle of my brain the ponytail wasn’t moving or coming out but it definitely hurt .So I definitely believe that gave her a bold spot . My scalp actually doesn’t like any oil on it that’s not its own 😂 and if I tried it that it makes my scalp itch .

Hi Karen, I’ve got a very short TWA. It’s long enough to require combing. I use an Afro pick to “pick” it. The Bobby pin advice just made me wonder if I’m not damaging my scalp when picking my hair. What’s a scalp safe way to comb my very short natural hair?

Karen - thank you so much for your channel with your super informative, comprehensive and positive information. I especially love that you’ve also focussed on beautiful mature ladies and tat you celebrate grey hair. I now watch your shows regularly and try to follow your excellent advice. I’m so impressed by how you present yourself on each programme an look so glamorous and beautiful every time. I have a special request. I’ve of course noticed the amazing plethora of different styles you create for your fabulous hair. Is it possible for you to create a video showing these hairstyles ad how you create some of them. I’m an absolutely hopeless hair stylist with little imagination and would really welcome a “menu” of hairstyles with step-by-step instructions. I realise that this might be something of a tall order but feel that I have to share my thoughts with you.

Hey there! Thank you sooo much! I appreciate it!!! This hairstyle was something I pulled together in 5 minutes becuase my blowout (straighten hair) was getting old and I wasn’t ready to wash it - but yes!!! I will certainly do quick and easy styles. I actually have a video soon of me twisting my hair. Will post in a few weeks and make sure I turn on the camera when I style my hair!

What about oils for hair growth? Pumpkin seed oil as an example. Also how do we know if our scalp produces too much sebum?

I’ve been using oils to moisturize my scalp. I’ve noticed that I get bumps in my head once in a while. So oil is not good. Should I moisturize my scalp at all? I think mine gets Dey and itchy when I don't. 😢

@selfiemade1086, I mix about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a spray bottle with lukewarm water. It's budget-friendly if you can stand the smell.

So in summary, the scalp needs water based serum & the hair oil based serum, right?
@KarenofCurlHouse
@KarenofCurlHouse Ай бұрын
Yes -- that's a good summation in general, however not all oils are bad for the scalp, but many times you apply way too often and way too much, throwing off the scalp microbiome / ph.
