Not disagreeing with you, but the directions on Olaplex no.3 are vague. It says a minimum of 10 minutes, "longer if desired." And I know I took a quiz on their website last year that recommended 45 minutes. My mindset is that if a product is designed to work in 10 minutes and then be washed out, there's no reason to leave it on for 12+ hours, but it'd still be helpful if Olaplex would say 10-45 minutes or whatever instead of just "longer."

Obviously the side effects people are experiencing suck. But as soon as I heard about the lawsuit, it reminded me of the one against The Ordinary for their chemical exfoliant (can’t remember what it is rn). There was so much misinformation online about how to use the product and it seemed like that was a contributing factor. Seems like a similar situation with Olaplex. I’m sure there are people using it 100% correctly too who are experiencing issues though because people can have reactions to anything-we’re all so different!

Olaplex saved my hair when I went to a professional and had it bleached to platinum and I ended up with gummy hair for over a year. I instantly lost about a third of my hair and had to cut off around 4-6” right away and continue to cut an inch every month for a year. And if I didn’t have Olaplex during this time wouldn’t have been able to hold onto the hair I had left. It’s what saved me from having to cut it all off.

Agreed that more is sometimes not more, and people should proceed with caution. However, the product label states: "leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes or more." The product label does not adequately warn consumers of any dangers associated with prolonged use past a certain time period when left on for "more" than 10 minutes.

It also could be genetics because her hair was curled and styled beautifully. Medium length and sort of thick. However I have fine limp oily type hair and am bouncing around to find the best products. I thought I might try that brand for my hair type. I learned the key to the Olaplex 3 for my thin, rough, fragile, oily, tangle prone hair was 1) To follow directions. 2) Drench my hair in water and apply to this drenched hair. 3) Do not over apply, but coat it well the full length of hair, concentrating more on the most damaged areas. 4) KEEP HAIR WET during this process by wearing a PLASTIC shower cap. 5)Rinsing 6) shampoo as Normal with soaking wet hair, pour shampoo in palm Without rubbing hands together, db it on top of hair, then dab some on sides then crown and sides then underneath the hair moving up from the neckline up. Begin massaging into hair thoroughly entire scalp. For my fine oily hair, 2 washes a are a must). If hair has not been washed for several days, at least one of these two Is a good quality clarifying shampoo.) 7) rinse thoroughly 8) Briefly towel dry hair, then Condition ends of hair only. 9) wrap hair in towel or cap to deep Condition for at least 10 Minutes while Completing your shower for whole body. 10) rinse hair . 11) squeeze out excess water and pat dry with a towel ( not roughing it up). Wrap hair With a dry towel For 10 minutes to soften hair ends 12) Lightly spritz ends of hair only with salon quality leave in conditioner with about 6 or 7 spritz’s from about 12” away. I hold ends extended out side ways to flatten so that when I spritz it reaches the targeted areas with as few as possible sprays. So 3 Spritz to the right side Of hair lengths and vice versa to the left. 13) Only use a wet hair brush to minimize damage while Brushing damp hair. 14) if blow drying, apply a salon quality hair gel in small amount. When not using the Olaplex, I use steps 5 - 14. This sounds daunting at first, but after a few times you will remember all the steps and move quickly through them all. Try to wait 3-5 days to wash hair. Your hair will get used to longer times the more you do this.

Wife here… I have left the no. 3 on for hours at a time, BUT first I use the no. 0, saturate my hair, and let it sit for 10 min. then add the no. 3. The absolute KEY is to keep it wet under a plastic cap. I imagine letting it dry out is where the trouble comes in… I also only wash once a week, I know not doable for everyone. 😳 What I did do however, is spray perfume on my hair for years causing horrible damage. I feel SO dumb for not realizing how damaging that was. It did not occur to me perfume has alcohol in it! I am 61 and my hair is in the best condition it has EVER been in. A large part of that is using Olaplex, I have them all my favorite being no. 6 & 7 together, Amika the Cure shampoo and conditioner, Pureology leave-in conditioner, Redken Big Blow Out, and a new love, Matrix total results Miracle Creator leave-in conditioner a multi-taking hair product. Virgin hair had always been thick, never had a real problem aside from split ends. And I mean EVER. Had two full treatments in the salon 10 weeks apart purely to preserve length just incase my usual routine wasn't enough to maximise on growth *shrug*. Was assured that it was safe for ALL hair types. Doubly assured by reading the website myself. Used no. 3 at home a few times no more than once a week and I am impatient so never longer than half an hour. Silk pillow case, heat protectant when I used heat (blowdry once a week), salon grade products. The issues started when I started skipping my treatments and returned to my previous hair-routine that had always served me well. The ends of my hair were breaking off 3 inches at a time! Virgin hair!!! The thing is, it REPLACES broken bonds with olaplex tech... what happens when THOSE bonds break down similar to any other chemical bonds? Do they breakdown without maintenance with more Olaplex tech should you choose to stop using the products entirely? Does Olaplex tech impact the natural strand integrity from the point of damage prior to using Olaplex and, if so, what is that impact?

It isn’t safe for people to leave in any sort of mask treatment that is not labeled as a leave in treatment. I used to do that, leaving in treatments and masks overnight and I kept on getting a ridiculous amount of breakage. Then one day my stylist asked me if I do this and she explained that you’re not supposed to because first off the nutrients won’t penetrate your hair shaft after 30 minutes anyways and secondly your hair will absorb all of the moisture to the point that it decreases in elasticity and starts to break off. I stopped doing it and then my breakage decreased but the damage had been done so I started using Redken extreme and that pretty much stopped the breakage.

But on their website, it says it is for all types of hair damage and my hair does have heat damage, just not chemical damage.

@@annmollica2077 I’ve used it for maintenance and to help combat the effects of using blow dryers. I use the dyson airwrap and heat protectant every time so I might not have as much heat damage as you. You were most likely overusing it and yes people with very damaged hair will see drastic results. Only use it once a month or every few months as needed. It’s helped keep my waves looking beautiful and healthy. Olaplex is just one product and won’t solve everything. You still have to keep a healthy diet, exercise, low stress, keep up with trims, healthy hair care routine & use products for your hair type to have healthy hair.

No need to use their entire line if you don't have processed/damaged hair. I use no 3. 1-2 times a month as maintenance and it makes my hair feel so amazing. No. 3 should stay on the hair for 20 mins, shampoo out thoroughly, and then condition well (all strands saturated mids-ends, and conditioner left on for a few mins at least). I have virgin hair with little damage.

I use it with No.0 on clarified hair and let it sit for 90 mins, then rinse it out well with warm water and follow up with a Shea Moisture hair mask. I do this about once a month. My hair feels softer and healthier

My ex roommate is a hairdresser and reccomended using no. 5 and no. 7 mixed together as a leave-in treatment and it has worked well for me. I've never tried no. 3 or any others but I guess it is important to read instructions thoroughly and if you aren't sure, get professional advice before using products on areas sensitive like hair and skin.

Im so glad i did my research before using it because I had EVERY intention of leaving it in and going about my business. Its not a conditioner, its meant to restore and reconstruct the damaged follicles, sometimes less is more. Im still not sure exactly how it works as they just have it listed as some patented formula, so perhaps ill stick with the natural stuff from now on.

Use it only when my hair is bleached and per instructions, no more than once a week and use a VERY rich hydrating conditioner after shampooing. Result: healthier bleached hair. These bond products are relatively new science. Maybe leaving a moisture mask in for hours was beneficial, but everything doesn’t work the same way! Not everything needs a hack- the instructions work.

Came to find these type of videos. Used it last night for the first time ran out of hot water and could not rinse completely then shampoo but got most of it out lol . But anyways I woke up with a poison ivy like rash all over my neck when the product got wet and ran down the front of my neck while bending over shaving my leg, I got a super itchy reaction on the front of my neck but ignored it. Fast forward to this morning and I have a rash all over … very strange. But figured I’d share my experience too. ( I washed my hair first chance I got)

I used olaplex once a week for 20 minutes for an 8 month duration. I did shed a lot more hair than normal. As soon as I stopped using it, the amount of hair in the shower drain and on brushes reduced HUGELY. I have no health problems or deficiencies that would have caused the shedding. Definitely the product

weird, weird, weird it happens when the company goes public... i wish they would not have gone viral in Tiktok and wish they would not have gone public... still i was using Olaplex way before tiktok and when people had longer than 60 sec span if you know what I mean. I am now usingi 1 and 2... and 6 and the mask... love them... 3 is really expansive for the good part. Anyway you can leave it on longer, but it only works when your hair is wet... so no point of using it as a curl cream. Slept with it many times. Saved my hair... never been that long and even hairdressers are like wow... of course cannot comment on the products i will not use (shampoo etc- waist of money), but things that are not just money crab have been working fine. If you have problems you are allergic or they changed there formula within few years. Never before was anyone complaining even in comments that it made their hair fall out... but then again we did not have k18 then which is even more expencive and is pushing hard to get double your money IMO...

That’s exactly what I was freakin thinking!! either they are gonna change the formula or do a RECALL!! Olaplex should have never said you can leave it in longer than 10 minutes!! they should have said 10 minutes! I guess they wasn’t expecting people to be sleeping and going to work for 8 till 12 hours a day with the product still in there hair!

Was so confused with Oleplex 3. I not only followed the directions...I watched professional vids on best way to use it. I have thick long hair. I used it as directed and my hair was even frizzier than before. I was shocked. I tried it a second time weeks later and the same thing. I only left it on for 20-25 mins tops the second time. ...not for me I guess.

Oh god I’ve left it in for almost a week. If it’s no longer on and I never do that again. Will my hair be ok. Ugggg. I’m using it because I basically bleached it twice I’ve done that many times before my hair is soooo thick. But two years ago. I basically had to start again. No we to think I’ve gone and done it again with something that was to heal the hair. Uggg. It’s not in it now. Only did it once and I did add a moisture protect too. Because I heard too much bond repair isn’t good your hair needs moisture too. Now I thought it was moisture but 🤷🏼‍♀️🤭

No , you don't put it on a dry hair , you shampoo , rinse , put your hair in a towel for 5-10 minutes and after you put Olaplex 3 on your hair , leave it 10-45 minutes maximum , never more , rinse and that's it

People just don’t know how to read the damn instructions anymore. They always wanna follow “hacks” they see online but those people did not create the product so they don’t know what they are advertising is safe to do or not. Makes me so mad
