Bless you Dr Pete for posting this! Gout hit yesterday yesterday morning…today I am able to do housework!!! I thought I would be laid up for weeks. All thanks to this video!! Even just dipping my foot in the basin testing the temp of the water for a second I started feeling the change right away. You were right by morning the pain was almost completely gone. Did a second soak upon waking and now a few hours later I can actually go up & down stairs bending my toe!! A couple of years ago, I had a gout flare up so I tried soaking my foot for an hour in my foot spa where you can control the temperature. But the crystals moved from my big toe to my ankle then my whole foot. It got all swollen in the morning and the pain was crazy. What works for me now is alternating between my foot spa and ice water. I saw somewhere where the hot and cold is suppose to help with blood circulation because it does something with your veins 😂 Then after the water treatment, I’ll keep my feet warm in an elevated position above my heart. I am no Doctor but another thing that I tried that helped me is drinking a teaspoon of baking soda mix with water. I still need to test it a couple more times to know for sure but I was surprised it worked

After trying commonly recommended non-medicinal treatments, I decided I just wanted heat in my foot out of pure desire/reaction. Since it is summertime, I stood on hot concrete (could barely tolerate it, and was afraid of "cooking"). I then keep my foot under a blanket and horizontal. Later that day, I noticed a notable improvement. This is after a month-plus of consistent ailment. It has slowly, and minimally, improved, but that much is a welcomed relief. I also ate a celery stalk each of those days. So, whether those were actually antidotal or not, it was quite coincidental. None of the other remedies seemed to do much (cherries, turmeric, elevation, etc...), nor did an antagonizer (tunafish). Other joints also became intermittently affected. Shoes that touched the foot immediately made the swelling increase, and arch-support insoles also caused more swelling of the foot. I know common the recommendation for swelling is cooling, but I decided I _did_ _not_ _want_ a cold foot and never used ice, although periods would have been beneficial. I believe my case is mostly from inhibited kidney function/filtration and poor blood circulation due to cigarette smoking. I have strong pain near the kidney areas in the morning. I've only been able to cut back smoking, but it does seem to be making a difference. Answered the survey (some multiple choices don't allow an accurate/misleading answer [uric acid levels unknown, and another I cannot remember]).

Hi Dr Pete, do you have an explanation for: The gout in my foot is worse in the morning after waking. The gout is worse after walking on rough surfaces (mechanical stimulation of the joints). Yup. My gout was almost gone and, last night, I decided to ice it a little for the little swelling that remained. Woke up this morning with it as bad as when it started a couple weeks back. This evening, my amazing and wise wife said that it could well have been the ice, and if I'd considered using heat. Hence how I find myself here. Praise God for our loving wives. Oh, by the way, 3 years ago I went carnivore and my gout disappeared. In January 24 my Consultant prescribed me Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) for my hyperactivity. Well, what was meant to help me with attention, anxiety, and endorphins, and what is classed as a wonder drug in some circles, has sent my body into immune hyperdrive. It did not agree with me at all. Anxiety through the roof, upset stomach, dry mouth, and worst of all, this blooming gout flare.

I am a soccer coach and have suffered from this malady for decades. I have munched prednisone and ibuprofen like M n M’s for years, but still wind up on crutches. My physician of two years says, treat it like an injury (RICE). Didn’t work. He said take allopurinol only after the flare. That didn’t work either. I’m always in a flare up as I grow older. I’ve noticed when I kick a soccer ball, the contact point of ball and foot determines the localization of the flare up, not the joint. I now kick the ball with my toes to avoid a flare on the inside or outside of my feet. The flare up exactly follows the impact point of ball and strike area on the foot, not the joint. It’s hell. I’m gonna try your heat therapy and get back to you.

Mechanical shock can drive crystals. However, Calcium ion is needed for the crystallization. I found recently that a supplement I was taking as a preworkout was loaded with it and suffered a flare post workout--about a 24 hour flare. Also, data from the 60's tested creatine phosphate and found that under conditions where it crystalised in joints it caused a flare identical to a uric acid flare. Food for thought.

Just had a bad flare up , I’ve had many. Used ice and heat alternating. I couldn’t feel any difference with the ice, but the heat ( an electric infrared wrap) killed the pain well the wrap was on and for some time after. Used heat for 3 days 30 to 60 minutes about twice a day. I’d say it helped a lot. I also adjusted my diet and used colchicine, ibuprofen and Voltarin cream directly on the area. I would alternate Tylenol Arthritis 2x650mg one day then Ibuprofen one day. The flare up lasted about a week. I can go 6 months to a year or two without a flare up, but I get careless eventually and gradually.Too many carbohydrates, a little more sugar then usually a celebration of some kind, maybe some lobster, steak and the grand finale a few beer. Beer really kick starts a flare up after the other gradual sins. Heat helps for me, I had stem cell therapy for an old knee several years ago the doctors insisted on heat and no cold to promote healing even if it hurt. They claimed cold only slows down the process and is only valid for acute injuries immediately after injury. Good luck folks.

Unbelievable!!! This works! I’ve suffered with gout for many years and every doctor I’ve seen has recommended ice. My bouts usually last 2 to 3 weeks and ice has only somewhat relieved the pain during application. I woke up yesterday morning with the typical symptoms that a gout flare was on the way with initial pain levels of about 2 or 3 out of 10. Somehow I came across this video at the same time and immediately started yesterday morning with my first hot water bath. After three sessions yesterday and two today, my pain level is down to a “1” and I am walking without a limp. I was skeptical, especially during the first hot bath treatment, because the pain and swelling seemed to increase during and shortly after. But within a couple hours, I noticed the pain relief starting. Of course, I’m guzzling water to the tune of at least one gallon per day, but I’ve done that in the past (without the heat treatment) with little success. Thank you, Dr. Pete!!!

The heat treatment definitely increased my flare ups post which the pain got unbearble and I had to apply cold water back, it actually spread the gout to my ankle from the knee, although the next morning it reduced. For me drinking ginger lemon tea helped alleviate the pain and also makes the stomach acid more alkaline. Water is a must. Another thing was I was sleeping with my room doors closed because there was a lot of pollution here, I had decided to sleep with them open. I don't know which one helped for sure but these are easy to try and will not cause any harm at the minimum.

1st time here, and also gout sufferer. Not sure if diet (SAD) and/or age, but also it started after bunion operation. Trauma to bones may be a factor. Anyway, I had thought of soaks before, without the science, but I was discouraged by some who think hot water would make the inflammation worse! Darn - I wish I had this info years ago, it's been pills, which are heavy on the kidneys. I **DEFINITELY** will try this now. A question though - just the hot water alone to dissolve the crystals? Or will Epsom salts help IF the magnesium can cross the skin barrier? Does anyone know? Thank you!!

Sorry to interrupt but I've found that ginger is the best thing for gout, use either store bought ginger tea bags moisten it with hot water, squeeze out a bit of water, rub bag around sore and leave on sore area for 30 minutes, repeat twice a day or cut up a large piece of ginger, boil it down, cool it off put ginger and juice into blender, pour in foot basin and soak and do the same thing for mosquito bites. Bites will be gone or significantly reduced within 30 minutes, gout will be significantly reduced within 24 hours, I promise, I use this for my gout and for my child's mosquito bites works every time.

I think timing matters. I also have experienced, with heat soaking, the shift in the pain in other locations in my foot. Regardless, I have seen a shortening of the flare. Rock-on. Tweak the system and report back what you find.

I just found this after I accidentally heard about heat soaking. Two days ago I had not a mini flare but an increased amount of soreness. I have done 4 soaks since then and feel no soreness or irritation other than physical presence of the lump. I am going to continue this twice a day as recommended in the hope that combined with allopurinol and lifestyle changes that my tophi tow goes away.

Every time I have an ounce of Pumpkin, my gout flares up. But everywhere I see pumpkin is low in purine content. Why is that?
@DrPetesKetoKlub
@DrPetesKetoKlub Жыл бұрын
Protein gets blamed all the time because the breakdown process produces uric acid. However, the main drivers are hyperglycemia, fructose, alcohol and umami. Pumpkin has carbs in addition to the protein. Also, I don't know the source of the pumpkin. Anything out of a can, bottle, package probably has added sugar (fructose). Protein can be a factor, secondarily to the drivers, if you over eat it. The best thing to do is to eliminate the pumpkin. If no gout, then you know not to go back to eating it.

I also do not have purine rich diet. Hot coffee and cherries as well as baking soda on empty stomach makes a big difference immediately. I do eat a lot of nuts. Thank you for the video.

Yeah so I've tried this a few times now and here are the results. Initially I get relief from the pain while the foot is in the hot water. After about an hour or two after my foot is out of the water it begins to hurt more intensely again. Then I can feel the acid / crystals move around my foot making other areas hurt......like it's trying to find a new joint to squeeze or something. About an hour to 2 hours after this the overall pain and strength of the gout attack gets minimized by like 70%. So yes, eventually I do feel long lasting relief, it's just a long road. (I keep my foot in hot water for 30 minutes to an hour and drink about a gallon of water minimum while on the flare)
