In this video Dr. Pete discusses the uric acid lowering properties of the amino acid glycine. Most gout sufferers are hyperuricemic (high uric acid) and many of you take urate lowering drugs. Glycine may offer an alternative to drugs like allopurinol or can be coupled with a urate lowering drug to more effectively lower uric acid.
Dr. Pete proposes a comprehensive model of gout, obesity, diabetes and the best practices to put gout in remission and reverse obesity and diabetes. His ability to breakdown the science into understandable terms is unmatched and no one else in the low carb space can match his depth of knowledge concerning fructose/uric acid pathway and potential remedies for the number one inflammatory arthritis in the US and the worldwide epidemic of obesity and diabetes. If you suffer from gout, obesity, and/or diabetes makes sure and watch this presentation. It can change your life.

Hey, I just found your channel from the algorithm. We started giving my grandfather, who's 92 glynac in July. We did this to try and help his heart failure. Which seems to have worked fantasticly. He's also suffered from kidney infections as well as kidney stones for years. He had a large stone removed from his left kidney in April that was removed via surgery, it was too big for standard lithotripsy and they were going to go after the stones in his right kidney only when we did the CT SCAN two weeks ago to find all the stones were GONE! It's absolutely amazing, and his urologist is scratching his head. Because we know he didn't pass them. So something between Glycine and Cysteine has had a major effect on his kidneys. As his eGFR is going up as well.

Since 2020, I substituted glycine as a sweetener, and stopped sugar. I used it to make my own Whip Cream. Though I don't use a lot of heavy cream any more, I still use glycine to sweeten my hibiscus tea, to sweeten my Golden Milk, and to sweeten my morning Cacao, I don't sweeten my coffee, since I take it black for its bitter taste. During Holidays, we make a blueberry salad with heavy cream, sour cream, gelatin, and glycine for the base. Blueberries are in a gelatin, as well. I found glycine can lower post prandial spikes. And it can help sleep. I take at night -- Golden Milk -- with Ghee,Turmeric, Cardamon, Nutmeg, and Saffron, all sweetened with Glycine. Or I take 3 bags of Green Tea for L-Theanine, sweetened with Glycine before bed time. Now I will experiment with Glycine, and try to lower my Uric Acid levels, as I have been a carnivore for two years. Now, I eat my meats on the weekend, following a 5:2 PSMF schedule. During the week, I eat egg whites, some goat cheese, and whey. Lowering my saturated fats during the week to avoid palmitate. I followed a similar Gout diet in 2005 and I lost a lot of weight, and reversed my gout using yogurt, cheese, and eggs. It was a Keto diet based on Barry Sear's Diet books. Today, Quercetin, Coffee, Elderberry, Tart Cherry, Garlic along with Vitamin C is how I reduce Uric acid.

Collagen and Glycine are Not functionally equivalent. Besides, to breakdown collagen, you need to start with nano hydrolyzed collagen peptides, then have enough stomach acids and proteases to break down those collagen peptides, and you'll also need cofactors like vit B6 in active form to process the peptide aninos to finally get to Glycine ! Soln : Have free form Glycine directly !!

I know, if you really research gout, seems people have hyperurcemia with no gout, people have monosodium urate crystals in joins with no gout, people have gout without crystals in joints, people have gout without high uric acid levels. It seems like there is a strong correlation with the crystals and uric acid, but I am not convinced it ends there, the medical establishment doesn't seem to care about us and getting to the bottom of different diseases, they have their treatments, and thats about it. It does seem a few people are an exception to this rule, I pray more and more people continue to contribute and help humanity toward health through their research and efforts. We need to be our own advocate and research as much as possible. Dr Pete has a good point, it could be a form of pseudo gout.Oxalates can do this too.
@DrPetesKetoKlub
@DrPetesKetoKlub 8 ай бұрын
You may have the inflammatory condition that promotes formation of the seed crystals which can persist for years without the shift to the painful flare. There is also the possibility of other crystals like calcium phosphate and oxalates. If you are supplementing creating, calcium salts in protein powders, these can be potential contributors to seed crystal formation.

@sugarandfoodaddiction9868
@sugarandfoodaddiction9868 8 ай бұрын
Unfortunately you are correct. We don't know the cause of gout. We know that UA is required for the flare but UA is not sufficient. There are other factors--at least one protein--involved in the flare. Additionally, soluble UA is also involved in addition to the crystal. We do know that average UA doesn't drive flares. Large swings up or down in UA in a short time frame drives the flare. The best thing that you can do is make sure that you eat a whole, real food diet. Eliminate the drivers of Fructose/UA metabolism: hyperglycemic food (grains, potatoes, rice, etc.), any/all added sugar, alcohol, and Unami ( any packaged, processed foods including processed meat.) Eliminating the drivers of UA reduces the probability of large swings in the concentration of UA. One last thing: Sleep apnea is a known driver of gout. Get tested if you have not done so. Even if you think you sleep great, get tested. The reason is because sleep apnea causes regular hypoxic events through the night which activates Fructose/UA metabolism and can cause frequent large swings in UA and subsequently the flare. Hope this helps.
@v-22

@@sugarandfoodaddiction9868 it's not sleep since, after I sleep, my gout always improve which is why I force myself to sleep as much as possible. Maybe. This remains unknown. One thing you can do is take potassium citrate in the appropriate dose to elevate the pH of the urine and lower the probablity of a stone. Interesting. glycine also improves metabolic function. I've heard metabolically healthy individuals with elevated fasting blood sugar using glycine to lower their fasting blood sugar from the low 100's to 80's. Makes me wonder if it's the metabolic improvement helping the kidneys lower uric acid, or lower uric acid helping metabolic function.
