Hi Dave, greetings from a Hoya head in England 👋. I agree there’s something special about Bonsai scissors, I do give them a cleanup and oil when they get a bit too gunky and they always come back like new. I have a couple of the Mother lights too and can’t fault them, agree that they are on the pricey side but will last as the strips can be replaced easily. I’d been using Dr Bronner peppermint soap, neem oil and peppermint essential oil (yes, I love peppermint) as my maintenance/pest spray but seeing the thickness of the Dr Woods and the condition of your plants I shall be giving that a try along with your recipe when I need to restock. Thank you for your videos, they are very much appreciated 😊

I also learned that it’s much cheaper to buy substrate amendments in those big bags. I get perlite,cocoa coir,LECA from hydroponic stores,I use cacao chips in a pet shop,it’s sold for reptile bedding,I soak it and it really expands. I gues some ppl don’t have the room to store such large quantities of stuff. 💚💚🪴🌿👌🏻 Natalie

It is so funny you said that about that about Matilda! I have a Matilda, Carnosa, and finally have a serpens cutting on the way to me. Obviously I don't know about the serpens, but my Carnosa (all of the ones I have) actually outgrow my Matilda. 😅 I really must have a weird environment in my house!

Thank you for sharing your recommendations, this is so helpful! Also.. Lights are so important for ones mood! I actually imported Soltech lights for my living room because of the light colour. The import fees were crazy, but the lights are so worth it! Same goes for the Barrinas, they are great in a cabinet without giving off strange colours or office/dentist vibes. Currently contemplating on a Plantspectrum/Mother one for the mosspole plants, its such a shame when the lower leaves drop due to insufficient light.

I had all of my hoyas in leca but going back to the coco coir, husk (same brand as yours) and perlite (or pumice) mix for some I think need a boost, especially my more mature ones. I will try the Tezula fertilizer. Does it work for blooms or just healthy leaves? Look forward to your next! Dee, NY

I switched out perlite for Pumice. I used to purchase Miracle Gro Perlite and never again; I can't stand the powdery stuff. If I ever purchase perlite again, it would be a chunky mx.

The only thing I don't like about pumice is the price. But the chunky perlite serves the purpose, and doesn't float up to the top. Very happy with it.

@@soberplantguy I purchased a large bag that has lasted a while. Unfortunately, it is almost gone, and the vendor is not selling it anymore. I only knew about Miracle Gro perlite which I detest. I never throw away anything, but a month ago, I threw away a half bag of Perlite because of how powdery it is. No matter what I did it would float to the top... except in one case where I used it at the bottom of my snake plant. I had two pots and the one that had the perlite at the bottom did much better than the other pot and at that moment of repotting, my heart ached that I had thrown away that bag LOL. I learned about the different sizes of perlite because of this yummy mix I order from Etsy. It is more expensive than pumice from what I have seen. I try to purchase thing on sale so maybe it will work out.
