Update: just checked one of my other older docks and it too had that small piece of rubber on the front piece, so that's not new to the OLED dock, which means this DIY hack is even more important as the older docks 100% scratched your screens!

@128KB
@128KB 2 жыл бұрын
@@pxrveer7597 Yes, if it's just light scratches then it'll be the protector that's scratched but do not remove it! Simply apply another screen protector over the top and that will make light scratches invisible. The screen protector Nintendo applied is to stop the glass from shattering.

Just got the OLED the other day and was thinking how the dock has some wiggle room. Legit thought to myself a sheet of felt completely covering the screen (on the inside of the dock) would be great. This works too though and I didn't realize there were "rails" on the sides. That's probably easier and better than my idea.

Definitely will do this whenever I get my OLED Switch in from Amazon hopefully next week. Was able to get one from there for retail price as they are available to Amazon Prime members only and I had a active free 30 day Prime trial. I know I should put a actual tempered glass screen protector on it but I really don't want to deal with getting it perfectly dust free. My regular V2 Switch took me forever to get the screen protector just the right dust free way. I was being OCD that every little spot of black from dust bugged me causing me to constantly remove or lift up protector. I went through like 15 protectors due to sides getting to where they don't stick when getting the dust out but whatever. My Switch Lite has never had a screen protector and is still scratch free but of course that doesn't dock like regular/OLED models. I do have a black dock sleeve from my original dock but I don't want to cover up the white dock with it. I actually just used the damn dock sock as a pouch for my earbuds when in the switch carry case.

Congratulations on getting the OLED!! I know it's a pain but pleeeeeaaseeeee put a glass screen protector on it! The OLED screen has a tiny screen protector on it to stop the screen from shattering (don't take it off) but it scratches pretty easily. I put a tempered glass screen protector on, luckily without any dust, and now I'm happy it's protected along with this dock hack! Still not got a single scratch.

@@128KB Yeah thanks it's supposed to be here Saturday and I know I will at least attempt to put a screen protector on. I will check the GameStop near me for one but everywhere else I only see the regular Switch and Switch lite ones. Probably order a 4 pack or whatever that has more then 1 of them on Amazon and if all 4 attempts failed that's it on trying to get a screen protector on it. At least with my regular Switch I got them from Walmart and was able to return as needed so only out money for just one.

@@128KB Just got the OLED in today and now that I made sure everything is ok with it I ordered a 3 pack of the Screen protectors. Here's hoping it works but I will see Tuesday when they are said to arrive by. I am going to try the application outside on a table we have on back porch. Maybe less dust outside if wind is not blowing. I mean winter and all so not like pollen would be a factor. If that fails I will try the steamy shower method in the bathroom where steam helps lower dust in air. That method so far had been best but still always had at least one small dot of dust that bothered me. If I am down to the third I might just attempt it at work on break. It's a Dollar General (US retail chain) so I figured maybe less dust in say the store office or a store shelf then say kitchen table at home.

Hello! First of all, thanks for the advice! As soon as I put my OLED Switch on the dock and it mades a mini scratch on a 9H tempered glass that I bought, I saw the need for something like this, it works like silk, nothin scratched anymore, but, the problem is, when I go to charge it in the dock, I've been noticing that it gets hot For example I just charged it from 13% to 55% and it's really hot, idk if it's normal or it's because my house it's hot in summer here in Spain (Between 82F and 86F), but it's concerns me because even the fans doesn't sound (or at least i doesn't hear it) So... thinking... could be that the sheet of felt it's blocking the vents making it difficult the Switch to breathe? I placed it on all 4 sides at 6.5 mm if my memory doesn't fail, but I think that the way the ventilation ducts are placed, it should not block them Is it normal that get hot when it get charged? Or depends of the seasons of the year, the % of battery to charge, etc? Thanks in advance!
@128KB
@128KB Жыл бұрын
That'll be down to the crazy heat waves we're having currently worldwide. Providing you've put the strips of fabric where I did in the video that will not block the intakes or exhaust on the Switch, so that won't be the cause. It is normal for any device to get hot as its charged up but the season definitely makes it even hotter currently!

@@ajackson-ross7295 any felt will do that has an adhesive back to stick it to the dock. Depending on how bad the scratch is, it sounds silly but installing a glass screen protector can make the scratch not visible anymore because the adhesive from the screen protector fills the scratch in. I've done it multiple times on old secondhand systems and it works a lot of the time :)

Oh no! Sorry to hear that 😭 but don't worry just yet!! Is it light scratches on the screen from the dock? What I recommend you do is get a tempered glass screen protector and install it ASAP! The adhesive and glass from the protector will actually get rid of the scratches visibly, so you won't see them anymore. I've bought countless used old handheld consoles (like Playstation Vita's, DS, 3DS etc) that have had light or moderate scratched screens, installed glass screen protectors and they look brand new :) It sounds silly but it's worked for me time after time! Give it a try and let us know how you get one :)

In my opinion it would be a better idea to just remove the problematic front plate. I know that one's a permanent mod and might sacrifice some of the aesthetic of the dock but in all honesty I think it's worth it, especially since it allows the dock to be used stand alone as a USB hub and charger, even on a lite.

That's very true but that is not there to protect the screen from scratches. The screen protector that comes pre-installed is actually a safety precaution to stop the glass screen from shattering upon breaking. Never remove that protector even if you scratch it! It's advised to install a screen protector over the one that's there already to protect from scratches and that way you can remove it if it becomes damaged, whilst leaving the pre-installed one in place. Glad you like the video and congrats on the OLED 😁
