Steve, as a 55 yr old Rocker that has played guitar since I was 5 yrs old. I think that you are one of the best guitarist that I've ever heard, and I have heard and played with a lot of great guitarist over the years. I was in a very bad car wreck in 2008 that left me with some mild traumatic brain damage, learning to play again has been very challenging. But I will say that your tutorials are so awesome as a player and a teacher, and that's not always the norm. I know lots of great players that can't teach and the other way also. Thanks man, keep rocking....

I am 56 and playing guitar 42 years. 2012 I was in such a bad accident I was pronounced dead. Obviously I recovered but also had a traumatic brain injury and playing guitar and chess got my noodle working again. And yes, Steve is amazing. I suggest you also check our Derryl Gabel who I have studied with and is also an amazing player like Steve.

Steve and his video lessons are as good as KZfaq lessons can be. All of the key components which are necessary in order to convey a genuinely good lesson are present; his skill level, technique, tone, examples, his voice and ability to be articulate with explanations pertaining to his examples, personality, video/audio quality, his appearance, overall etiquette, and his apparent desire to be genuinely helpful to people at large. I’ve been a guitarist for over 30 years, and I get inspiration from Steve’s videos to pick up a guitar and play. Could be one little note he played relative to the piece he was demonstrating, or to try something I hadn’t done before. Either way, thanks Steve. Valuable info, wish I had it many years ago. The methods that broke me from this issue were three things: 1. Having a backtrack that doesn't hide my mistakes. It's easy to make something sound good with a bunch of effects, so it's important to know when I'm being lazy on my technique. (edit: forgot to mention that this also helps push my playing forward, so I don't linger on any notes waiting for a beat. Also, it helps me feel when I want to accentuate a particular note, and even when I want to play fast or slow.) 2. Imagining I was singing a song, so at times if something doesn't sound good, I would even sing it out loud or in my head then add to that. 3. Continuously listen to guitarists and pull inspiration from their skill. Many times I fell into the mental trap where it feels like I'll never be as good as the guys I hear, but at the end of the day, I realized that playing was for me and my enjoyment. I find it extremely fun to learn huge classical movements and to be able to pull them off on any guitar that's in front me. It's very easy to fall into the notion of making it sound robotic, but remembering these three things, for me, are what breaks me out of that, even if it isn't an improvisation.

This video finally provided me the breakthrough I've needed for years. I've always relied on the major and relative minor pentatonic scales and basically just fiddled my way through them until I was able to play stuff that sounds good. I've been trying for a long time to understand what the hell I was doing and really wanted to figure out the major scale, but it always just sounded like a scale. I just wasn't able to get it to sound good. This video helped me finally realize how to put together the major scale, CAGED, and arpeggios into something that makes sense and sounds good. Thank you!

one thing that George Lynch does is he will end on a blue note on the g string for example and i really like the ideas about sliding around, visualizing chord shapes, and incorporating arpeggios.. You could try to target a blue note in a minor pentatonic finger pattern. I would like to add that the boxed finger patterns are great when it comes to modal playing but ultimately you play what you practice, and if all you do is practice scales it would be hard to break away from this when it's your turn to burn ;)

Mr. Stine.....you inspire me to play, more so practice! Your a great teacher by nature and a likable guy! I learn something new, and make more connections and sense of the fretboard/guitar every time I watch a video lesson (over and over again).......always little hidden learning jems in each episode too. Being able to connect what I know about theory/the guitar, and your expertise and great teaching style, makes progression super fun . Thanks a bunch!

You are a perfect teacher. after 15 years playing guitar, i dont understand the basic of the modes and combining mayor pentatonic n minor pentatonic in blues (because other teacher refering blues scale). The explanation of your basic is making my improvisation have a basic and making me more musical. 15 years man. I learn from all the video instruction of virtuoso guitar. FYI i can play yngwie technique picking and michael angel batio picking very good ( of course with different guitar pick ). (Yes your lesson was right about the important thing about guitar pick). Trully bless to find your video. Hope u the best for your career.

Really like your very open approach, the way you explain things easily understandable and the moments you're searching for the right words. This ist exactly my style of teaching (not guitar stuff). Thank you Steve. I am going to start trying to practice using these ideas tonight. I have learned the Pentatonic and Diatonic positioning, but this should help things start to sound less like scales. You are absolutely brilliant in your approach to teaching simplistically. Thank you again
