Chris Herren is man in long-term recovery from alcohol and other drugs since August of 2008. Chris was a high school basketball legend from Fall River, Massachusetts, who realized his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 1999 and then was traded to his hometown team, the Boston Celtics in 2000. Chris struggled with substance use for much of his basketball career, but now in recovery has courageously chosen to share his harrowing story of addiction and recovery.

Chris, you are a hero in my eyes. I was in recovery twice 2nd-time dr put me right back on opiates I went right into P.A.W.S. I had to go to the drug store and red flag myself. Now the pot is becoming popular. I went from 13 meds to 0. Lost 134 lbs. The worse thing is I lost my wife, my kid, my homes. I had my shot too. After running the Boston Marathon, I was a professional hockey player, tennis player, businessman, I lost it all to drugs. Once you become straight and your run us over the guilt is enough to kill you. I gave my family and old friends cancer, nobody calls, drug calls only family dinners without me me, weddings, some days when its raining if I don't walk 8 miles, I think about terrible things, if you know someone who needs help with opiates, don't ignore or bully them, help them to surrender, and your saving a life, what better gift can you give the almighty after he let me live twice after overdosing.

A shame the people i see in this audience on there cell phones looking down not paying attention to what chris has to say. He is a man that has been through what millions of people are struggling with today. Nobody really understands the struggle an addict goes through except one that has gone through it themselves. I would be so honored to be able to have a conversation with Chris Herren. I am still on this long struggle of recovering from my choices and wish i had someone like chris to help guide me through, to help see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Zac Carlsen if you are an addict like i am you know that part of the sickness is that feeling of invicibility, that feeling that rules dont apply to me, that the ohter are wrong and i am right. "its a wierd narcissisme that addicts have"-bob forrest after reading this i hope you'll understand more there ignorance. lots of love. Nick.

It's not comfortable for people to listen, especially when you ask hard hitting questions like that last one at 3:54. Everyone should feel that and ask themselves that, of any age. The only people I could see that shouldn't give a fuck are the kids that haven't drank before because how could they even process any of this?
