Dom, great job pressing Adm Kirby on his hollow answers on the questions of providing weapons to Ukraine and how those decisions were made. It was clear that Adm Kirby could rationalize the USA policy of providing weapons as more than instead of giving all the weapons Ukraine needs to win the war as opposed to just providing the weapons that the USA determined Ukraine needed at the moment.

Ive said this from the beginning, the ' divide' and partisanship in US politics regarding ukraine is overblown. It is the result of just a handful of people with microphones getting a lot of airtime. Any vote is going to be at least 75% voting in favor of ukraine.

Give Ukraine everything it needs. NATO countries have spent seventy years spending and expecting to lose many thousands of lives when the time came to hold Russia back. The Ukraine are doing that for us, at tremendous cost and with tremendous valour. Surely spending your money on someone else doing the fighting damn well is better than spending the same money or more on your own soldiers doing the fighting. This is the best deal NATO nations are ever going to get, giving Ukraine what they want is a basement bargain win for the west.

it’s honestly kind of disheartening to hear a senior US military official try to make the argument that the war in ukraine needs to stay in ukraine and never extend to russia. he knows as well as everyone else that america REGULARLY violates international borders to do drone strikes in other countries sovereign territory in targeted assassinations. and this is with countries america isn’t even at war with. the duplicity is concerning to say the least.

32:52 while I agree with many of John Kirby's statements, there is no way to say that we did not drop the ball on a few things. Among them is starting training for Ukrainians on f-15 and F-16 aircraft. Maintenance crews and pilots. We have also dropped the ball in that we took too long to actually decide to give other weapon systems that should have been given earlier. And then there's the issue of ammunition, we should have been setting up new lines of production long before we actually did, we waited a year before taking action on this, because there's this perception, or there was that is, that this could be a short war. In part because there's a mistake in the analysis dealing with the Kremlin and the boss of the Kremlin, and so much as the United States keeps on thinking they are going to act like any other reasonable normal governmental actor. At no point in history during the last 30 years, has this group of people ever shown that they act in the way that Washington thought they would... Regardless of how much I actually respect John Kirby and for that matter the Biden administration, we absolutely screwed up in being hesitant on many aspects of this, basically prolonging this war. This war should have ended in August, instead we're looking at least at another year maybe two... That, time blood and treasure, is the cost of hesitancy

When Soviet fighters shot down KAL Flight 007, killing 62 US citizens (including a US congressman), Reagan didn’t respond by using military force against the USSR. Despite his harsh rhetoric directed against the Soviets about the incident Reagan continued negotiations with them on the START 1 Treaty. Reagan was just as wary about instigating a direct war between nuclear powers as Kirby and his colleagues are.
@kodiakseven
@kodiakseven 8 ай бұрын
True he did that. But that is not my point. Reagan pushed the Star Wars program full steam ahead, knowing that the USSR would go broke trying to keep up. It did. That is what I am referring to here. Go all in supporting Ukraine to win on the battlefield using Coventional weapons and outspend Russia militarily until it goes broke trying to keep up and loses on the attlefield as a result. As it is Russia is spending more now and all we hear from the West (the US) is we will support Ukraine "for as long as it takes". They must add "for Ukraine to win this war" at the end of that sentence. give them the right conventional weapons in the right quantities to make significant advances on the battlefiled and make Crimea untenable for Russia. Putin will capitulate.

Kirby is spot on. He is correct in identifying the interviewer's patrntly false comparisons. The situation is what it is, the focus now must be on resolving the mess. Extracting ruzz forces from Ukraine in the most economical and humane way possible, given the circumstances is the priority. Ruzz then will have to live with its mistakes. The subsequent mission is to establish a strong border to prevent further incursions and strengthening the West more generally against challenges to liberal democracy. Finally the US does have a problem with its presidency. Biden has done a very good job and appears healthy, but as an eighty yo myself know at this stage of life things can change quickly. For Biden to run again carries a lot of risk, not just for the US but global security, all at a time when challenges to liberal democracy are mounting on many fronts. I would like to see a strong safe pair of hands like Petraeous run either as Biden's vice or possibly as the Republican candidate. At this point in time it is not so much which party is running things, but having smart, honourable people. To elect an elderly oddball would be a huge risk and very self indulgent.

Even though he ducked several questions, General Kirby put his finger on the facts that matter beyond Biden's age, especially at this moment in time. Biden has experience, relationships inside the country and abroad, and wisdom. It would take years for a younger, less experienced candidate. Younger people should be appreciated for their abilities and encouraged to move up, but if there isn't anyone on the horizon who can spin the platters of domestic, foreign, and military matters at a presidential level, why replace Biden at this time?

@@robertsteele474 Russia accidentally shelled its own troops for two hours to the north of Bakhmut. Radio chatter intercepted by Ukraine back in July captured the friendly fire. It happened while troops of Ukraine's 30th Brigade were on the attack. They had advanced to within 200m of the Russians when shells began falling. But Russian commanders had mistaken their own troops for the enemy. Desperate radio messages reveal how Russian soldiers begged for the attack to stop. But the Ukrainians blocked their cries for help and so the shelling continued. Kyiv's troops waited for the bombardment to stop, then took the Russian positions. Ukraine has been steadily advancing on the flanks of Bakhmut since July. The aim is to pin down Russian defenders in the city and kill as many as possible. That will help other attacks in the south of Ukraine to break Russian lines. Courtesy. Daily Mail Homepage

@@erynkrieger1279 definitely not. I made a mistake. Apologies. I must admit that I don't know who this Peyerson is. I made a wrong assumption. I have always been 100% for the Jewish people and a great admirer of Giorgio Agamben's philosophical writings ("bare life" "homo sacer") which, I would say, apply to this new attempt at Holocaust and wiping out Ukraine to reassert who knows what. As well as Primo Levi's whose Drowned and the Saved was magisterial. So quite the opposite. Please accept my apologies.

This war is going great for Ukraine. It’s much better country to live in now than it was when it was ruled by a pro Russian party. As Bandera has shown us, some self sacrifice is necessary to make Ukraine great again.

I was very amused to hear about the 'Barbie' movie being popular in Russia. 🤣 I enjoyed it. Despite what some idiot commentators say, it does not plug grim, humourless feminism: those characters are NOT very sympathetic, and do NOT come over well. The characters displaying humanity, humour, and understanding are the ones audiences relate to.

I doubt Russia cares about its economy. Otherwise why would it have pressed the self-destruct button on its economic model of energy preeminence in Europe and attracting inward investment. Gathering land and destroying Ukrainian national identity seem to be it's only goals.

One step at a time. Neutralize the Black Sea fleet is a sound military objective. And is only part of the whole. Blowing up the Crimea ‘s air defense and sea going fleet is creating havoc in Russian. MOD “What the hell do we next” reactions. Slava Ukrani

Sounds like a lack of imagination to me. The "damage" to the shipS in question is almost certainly functionally unrepairable. More to the point, it's another demonstration that Russian ships are not safe in Sevastopol. The whole point of a naval base is that it's supposed to be a secure place where ships can be repaired and re-armed. Demonstrating that Sevastopol is not secure severely weakens its strategic value for Russia.

Of the 350 or so ships in the Russian navy only about 50 were in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov...and because of losses the fleet is mostly hugging the Russian ports shooting missile at civilian sites and port facilities...seaworthiness by Russia's own MOD reports is sketchy at best ...search for report on the sinking of the Moskva, real eye opener....about as effective as the land concripts. If Russia is doing so well why several tranches of conscripts which, if they meet their next tranches of 700-750 hundred thousands amount to a million plus thrown into combat, yet lose ground steadily. Begging artillery rounds from NORKs hardly indicates first work industrial capacity . Putin is killing Russia..and good riddance.
