The lab is not in the upside down. The upside down is coming into the lab via the gate that El opened. That’s why all the particles were floating in the air when hopper went into Hawkins lab.. the upside down is a mirror of Hawkins town. Also, Hopper and Joyce did not go into the school in the upside down. They went into the public library where they found Will.

The salted pool is basically a make shift Sensory Deprivation Tank. I remember them being a thing in the early 80s comics. GI Joe's Snake Eyes would spend time in them. The tanks allegedly allow for full concentration as all five senses are deprived of any sensation/information. The more salt you add to a water the more buoyant objects will be. In order to not feel anything you need to float free of touching any all of walls of the pool/tank.

In regular tap water, a fresh egg will sink to the bottom of a glass or bowl. It's one way to test if your eggs have started to rot. Eggs that don't sink have gone bad. Adding salt to the water increases the water's density and provides more buoyancy to float objects.

The Great Salt Lake in Utah has so much Salt in it no one has ever drawn. I swam in it back in 1972 and I went down as far as I could swim and I floated up immediately. And I was a AAU swimmer and life guard, so there science is sound. Also I really like your reactions you two are alot of fun.

I "swam" on the north side of the lake, where there's the most salt. I could practically lean on my elbows on the surface of the water! Insane buoyancy.

That floating with salt is real. In the Middle East, you have a sea (the dead sea), people float because the water is so salty.

They had 11 in a deprivation tank. You can find some Spa's and physical therapy places that you can use a deprivation tank.

You guys need to watch E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to see some of the Easter Eggs in this series besides others. I really like Steve's redemption arc, you didnt want to like him at first but he comes back swinging literally, I love yalls reactions to some of this stuff like with the worm down Will's throat (Reference to Alien) yall had me in stitches loll.

Funny thing is steve was originally supposed to die in the season final but the creators got so close with the actor they kept his character alive. Bj needs to just get thought of Aliens out his mind push wayy off to side nothing to do with aliens

It just means there wasn't enough salt in the water he was in. It's the salt to water ratio that determines whether you float or not.
