It depends on the personality of the cat. From my experience, most cats like routine. This applies to most pets, such as dogs, rabbits, budgies etc.... A routine gives them structure in terms of security (place to call home and safe environment), feeding times and your love and attention. As long as they have that in their lives, they are basically content. As an owner, you've got to make sure they're in good health.
@neinnein9306

Thank you for saying kittens should be adopted in pairs; few people realise that they can get seperation anxiety when no longer around mum, or littermates, which, in turn, can lead to behavioural problems ...
@annana6098
@annana6098 4 жыл бұрын
People think of cats as antisocial. They're just not "pack" animals, neither are a lot of humans, but we still need company sometimes. They make friends, especially if they are spayed/ neutered and have adequate food. Grandpa Mason was a battle scarred old tom who acted like a mommy cat around kittens, when most people would expect him to attack them. Their company made him happy.

When I decided to commit to cats again, I found 4 1/2 year old siblings (bro/sis) who were highly bonded. Their previous human was leaving Korea and could not take them. I am gone a lot, so knowing they have each other is a relief. They play and snuggle together 80% of their day.

I think that’s affected my cat a lot too. His name is frisbee, and he was adopted three years ago. He had two siblings: Rambler and YOLO. We adopted him, took him home, and ever since then he’s had behavioral problems, has a lot of anxiety, and hasn’t ever gotten along with my other three cats. I always wonder if we had adopted him with Rambler, what would have been different?

I don't usually cry but... this one really hit me in the feels! 7 years ago I found a stray kitten hiding from a raging autumn storm under my neighbors car, she was crying so bad and I eventually managed to get her inside to safety and some food. A few days later another stray little one, her sister, just showed up on our doorstep. Since then these two tiny, scared and skinny kittens have transformed into the most social, loving and healthy adult cats and they are still living with us, even switching country, because we don't leave family behind! Absolutely love this story and yes yes yes always try to have two kittens together, like you say everything is better with a friend

I have three cats, siblings that I rescued and brought up together. One of them, who is sleeping on my bed as I type, decided it would be fun to follow the mailman one day. The mailman thought he was a stray and picked him up and put him in his bike and took him to the local vet, who in turn called me as the kitten was chipped. He had a fun trip and even charmed the ladies at the vet.

That said, either way your life is going to change in a way that you couldn't imagine. And it's for the better! You're going to be entertained, amused and more importantly, unconditionally loved. "Ceremonial Crab Dance" ...... How true ... hahaha. I adopted my now 12 year old Boo from a shelter at 8 weeks old. She was fostered before going up for adoption at the shelter. She 'picked me' by jumping on my chest from a shelf she was perched on and giving me kisses. She is my constant loving companion. It's hard to imagine a day without her. My only regret .... not also taking one of her siblings home. 😐

Cats should never be deprived of the company of a fellow cat. Their adoption should always be, at the minimum, two of them

I have 3 cats (Peanut, Lilo and Lunar) and they're literally my life. I wish I had known better the first time I got my first cat (Peanut) to adopt and not shop and to buy a pair rather than a single kitten. I feel guilty for not doing more research. But I love her with all my heart. She's a cat who knows what she wants and will let you know if she likes you or not. She's not overly affectionate (she wont sit on your lap or let you hold her for too long) but she does love a good head to head rub and head scratch. The other two (Lilo and Lunar), who we adopted, were found in a box in a car park with a litter of 8 and no mother, are sisters and are complete polar opposites personality wise. Lilo, the runt of the litter, is very mischievous and funny. You cant help but love that side of her that goes into our bins and takes out wrappers, leaving them scattered all around the house for us to find and pick up. She has an abundance of energy and love, when she sees your for the first time in the morning she let's out a little "brrrpp" and rushes to your side to be petted. Her sister, Lunar, is a little more reserved. She was extremely shy at first, cautious around us and mostly stuck to herself. Slowly, she started to become more and more comfortable and trusting of us. Now, she sits gracefully as she watches her sister get into mischief and bounce about. Lunar is the gentlest cat who simply wants attention and cuddles. She sleeps in my bed with me almost every night, in my arms or by my side. When she sees me she gives me a slow blink and little squeak to get my attention. The older cat tolerates the two little ones but sometimes has to put them in their place if they get too cocky with her and irritate her. I love my cats, they bring me so much happiness and joy. I cant ever imagine what life must be like for cats on the street, fighting for food, territory etc and I definitely cant imagine abandoning a cat. I applaud and admire people who rescue all kinds of cats and find them loving homes to give them a good life.

Happy to see someone else shares my philosophy on raising animals (and kids). Always have to be at least two. No "onlies". Buddies are a must.

@Mitzi Miau Perhaps tomcats. But females come in bunches a lot of the time. And if you see how much fun and joy they have together, you won't split them up, if you can avoid it.

I didn’t adopt a kitten pair - but I had a one year old energetic boy who was like a kitten. The two cats hit it off wonderfully and they’re best friends to this day :)
