In this video I build a dust cyclone using a street cone and a 5 gal bucket
I use a couple pieces of scrap plywood and a 8 foot 2x4 for supports
I also use a propane torch to heat up some 2 inch PVC to fit my shop vac hose .
This is a cost effective way to build a dust cyclone for a shop vac that anyone can make for just a few bucks with a few parts

"Brilliance" or "oddity?" That "brilliant" aluminum bat punch is definitely *very* sketchy. 1st off, I can think of a dozen better uses for an old bat. 2nd It is SO EASY to cut that material with snips. Faster, better, safer, & you get the size hole you want. I've built hold-punches for commercial applications and this punch is as bad as they come. I've never seen worse. This whole bat thing struck me as the result of not having sufficient analytical skills to come up with a better solution. PVC melt-joining is "brilliant?" I can't be the only one that routinely works with plastics. FYI it's kind of a normal thing to do in joining plastics. Not all plastics can be joined this way, each plastic has particular characteristics and some will join themselves readily, other's won't at all. Some offer a weak joint, some a strong, it's all variable. I'm guessing you're kind of new at making stuff, or perhaps just a drunken bromance post, whichever I do agree with you on the rotating table. That was snazzy.

Thanks Patrick. I've been wanting to get a cyclone system for a while and this video inspired me to build one. I even picked up a bucket and cone today. There's a few things that are slightly different that I want to try and I'm going to film and document my success/failure. I've been toying around with the idea of filming my woodworking misadventures and I think this will be the first. I'll link this video for the one subscriber (my mother) I start off with. Wow, Patrick! Like several other commenters, there was so much in this video that I loved, like your rotating table saw/chop saw stand, table saw circle jig, aluminum bat hole punch, and of course, the cyclone build itself! Outstanding! The boiling water heat source for the PVC is a great suggestion, 'cause I'd like to see more of your videos and those fumes from torch heating the PVC will shorten your years for sure! Keep up the great work Patrick!

I've thinking about making a cyclone separator and thought that there has to be an easier way than what I was seeing others doing. Traffic cone, Brilliant! The shape is already there.

Use a heatgun to heat your PVC and use infrared thermometer to obtain about 100°C (210°F). I fixed car bumper works with this method.

boil water, put the pvc pipe for few minutes and it will be soft to be streched, no fumes and a better finising

All you people with your over complicated NASA shit. Use a heat gun, takes 4-5 minutes, and doesn't burn your work up and make you look like an amateur on youtube. Most people dont have a hot plate to boil water in a woodshop. You're welcome. After watch this guy putter around his garage and breathe through his mouth, I am absolutely certain he did NOT build that saw table that flips.

First off i saw your video in september 2020, watched already a couple of other cylone builds, but the use of a street cone is a good alternative for some bigger cylones. The small ones you get cheap everywhere just add a bucket and done. I will keep it in mind for some later projects. Thanks for your time to present this.

if your too lazy to empty your bucket all the time like ME! haha get rid of the bucket and get yourself one of those 55 gallon blue plastic drums, mine sits in the corner of my metal shop and works great! I'm also in the process of building a wood shop and will make one for that shop too. Love your cone idea so smart i have two of them in my back yard i bought for a project and have not touched them since, i will make my new one with it thanks to your video great job!!! Thank you!!!!!

Nice build Patrick, I love that flip top work bench. I use water in my jet boil to heat up my PVC, it makes a nice even heat transfer w/out any discolor of the PVC ( I improvised because I ran out of Map gas)

some guy on a previous video made a special jig for his table saw and painstakingly shaved down his pvc pipe to fit , just heat it up and push it in. boschhh done.!!!! thought this guy was gonna be a idiot to start with but first impressions and all that. very creative keep doing what your doing , haters are gonna hate, They dont see just how clever this shit is. nice build Patrick, I made mine like this, Part 4-5 Thien Top Hat Dust Separator Build and used a 30 gallon metal can. I like the heating PVC part. That never occurred to me and its something I will definitely remember.

Great video, I used a 55 gal. barrel instead of a 5 gal. bucket. With a lathe , table saw and miter saw I only have to empty it about 3 to 4 times a year. I also have one with a 5 gal bucket and have to empty 2 to 3 times per bowl. keep up the good work.

I made one a few years ago - out of a cone as well... I need to reinforce it with wood bars like you did... then it won't collapse... I quit using it. Now... I'll make better thanks to your help. Nice vid. :) I like that you utilize your small spaces well (Chop saw etc)

Love this fix and you way to explain and do things. No holesaw, f... it i'm grinding a bat and using that ! Don't have a fitting, f... it ill just heat it up and force it into shape, love it !! Awesome funny video:-)

I just built from your idea of the re-saw jig with the threaded rod, and my next project will be this street cone cyclone dust collector ... so please refrain from huffing PVC fumes, or at least wear a mask...so I can continue to steal your ideas! "Shop built" has a good ideas for mating up PVC by making reducer couplings, also from PVC. Great stuff, and thanks again.

Cool stuff Pat. Great low-buck McGuyver trick! Maybe you could make one addition: a deeper dust chamber. Maybe hobble two 5 gal. buckets together. All that you would do is butt two 5gal buckets, base to base, and screw and glue them together. You'd have to cut out all but a inch or two of the centers, so the dust can fall to the bottom container. Maybe sandwich some plywood or something to increase the rigidity, etc. Then glue the lid to the bottom container (or not?). Voila! You got a 10 gal dust receptacle! Or convert a trashcan into a dust chamber? RubberMaid Brute trash cans are durable, have pretty good lids, and even have the wheeled dolly attachment. But, them Rubbermaid/Brute trash cans aren't cheap. And you'd have to build some sort of internal frame to keep the trash can from collapsing. I think that may be departing from the essence of your video: make it at ultra low cost (dirt cheap!). Whatever volume you need. Just some ideas. Cool video, real simple!
