SOR4 has a very high skillcap for madlads who want to go for perfection. That's what makes people come back to it. It's really one of the best games of the modern era and I hope it will be recognized as such in the future and we'll see new installments.

How do you jump back when Max grabs you?! I've tried escaping his grip but couldn't...

To escape from Max grab you must push buttons quickly before he does the attack. However, during his 2 phase (when he stops time and get angry), this grab becomes instant, so if he grabs you, you can't escape
