According to psychologists, authoritarian parenting only makes a child irresponsible once he/she is released from their control

Lol, my mother is pressuring me to study for SAT for which I understand but I just wish she would let me pick and choose which classes I want to go and how often. I go to 4 different tutoring classes on the weekends so I never have much time for myself. Whenever there is a break from school I still get yelled at because my mother thinks that I am just lounging around and playing on my computer. "playing" I put that in quotes because of the loosely used Chinese (Man.)term that parents use when they talk about electronics. I just wished my parents knew that I truly do care about school and that I would like to only go to one class on the weekends for math and English instead of the 4 classes I do now, however my aunt keeps feeding my mother information about schools that are the Ivy tier. An accumulation of all this lead to an altercation in which the result is ALWAYS " if you don't like my house you can get out." MY mother thinks I don't care for school and that I want to be a bum although I am getting an average of 95+ on my scores. I just wished my parents would be more open to ideas from me rather than thinking for me. I understand I might sound a little ungrateful but it is really hard living like this. I might not be doing the best things at the current times but I do wish that my mother would be a little more lenient o r maybe even more than now because she thinks she is being very much so. I write this for my own comfort I need not any negativity in the comments and nor should you expect I care. Little snarky comments one should keep to themselves.

I think you should stand up to your mom about what school you feel best suits your needs as well as how much you can really see yourself handle their academic curriculum because going to a university from your parents choosing instead of coming from your own choosingwill only be risky and regretful feeling if you end up not being satisfied with it at that point and also them paying for your education.

Well, my uni teacher, who was in Cambridge told me once that the matter of some teachers is to prevent a bunch of their student killing themselve because of pressure from their parents and things like this. She was dead serious. What's the point of making your kid getting into a prestigious university when they might jump off a window? Between, the ones who did not study always have pretentious wishes for their kids, wherever they're from. And is Berkeley lower class?

For me her Dad really cares about her and I agree him. Both of my parents dint go to college and wasn't able to get a good job but for some reasons their boss helps me in education so my parents wants me to go to a well known college. I feel like I really need to do this for them. But she shouldn't be stressed but thankful. I swear she needs to be thankful not complaining. She has the chance, but she won't claim it. Many people wants to gain education but they can't. She should understand well. Well I love studying bec it's for my parents, I want to let them have a beautiful future while I'm able to get a good job

@ASacredSpirit Truthfully, this comes as no surprise to me. This is what happens when parents push their children to the extreme. If you agree, raise your hand.

The part where the dad saying wanting to put his children to elite university no matter how expensive they are very delusional with reality as well as that kind of financial sacrifice being put on their childrens education against their will is kind of selfish and putting them at risk and more added pressure to perform.
