I agree Dr Greger. I've taken it the last 2 years since watching your first videos on Turmeric. The root really does taste pretty bad raw. But I'll cut me off a piece, and dip it into some organic honey with pepper. I know you said pepper will make it more absorbable. It's probably the most potent healing food for the human body on earth.

I read once in a journal years ago that curcuma has hundreds of substances in which the mechanism or benefit is still unknown, and that a person has to take large amount of curcuma to get that anti-inflammatory effect. With so many other unknown substances I don't think that would be a good idea.. but I really do believe that curcuma has anti-inflammatory benefits, I just don't know if it is applicable. You are right, we need more studies.
@yojishinkawa378
@yojishinkawa378 2 жыл бұрын
You definitely do not need to take a large amount of turmeric to get an anti-inflammatory effect, even if you don't take anything with it to increase it's absorption into the body. Turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory.

Just a reminder - Turmeric (curcumin) is supposed to be absorbed better by the body when it is: - heated for a while (should be added to the mean while it's cooking); - taken with black pepper; - taken with peppers.
@littlebcally1
@littlebcally1 8 жыл бұрын
Taking with black pepper raises blood levels by like 2000% but is that even necessary when it's coming into direct contact with the colon? Uncooked tumeric has more anti oxidants but cooked is better for protecting dna. Maybe do both? Interesting anyway
@jefflebowski918

I now take it with a little butter(fat) on my veggies, fat allows it to go straight to your lymphatic system. When I would add black pepper it made me feel weird. YMMV
@onewayfarer6663

Jeff Lebowski TY for that. Is black pepper the only good one to use, or is there other peppers or even fresh pepper good to use?
@jefflebowski918
@jefflebowski918 8 жыл бұрын
One Wayfarer I've only read that black pepper aids in absorption due to the peperine. Studies have shown that the peperine(in black pepper) reacts with the curcumin(in turmeric) so your liver can't metabolize the curcumin, the curcumin will stay in your bloodstream longer.
@littlebcally1
@littlebcally1 8 жыл бұрын
+Jeff Lebowski if black pepper boosts blood levels by 2000% why add butter? Butter is awful for you. There's plenty of fat in nuts and seeds if you want to insist on taking it with fat. But there's fat in grains, legumes, beans etc

As a UCer in remission, I've used turmeric extensively for the last 5 years, and sometimes active extracts that contains it, and in both cases I always experiment improvement when I do take them continuously. Up to now, I was just wondering if it was a placebo effect (and I was good with that hipothesis as well). Great to see the science on that.

manuka oil is like tea tree on steroids, but easier on the skin. Expensive but a little goes a long way if you are using it only on your feet/nails There are some good vendors on Amazon. I like Miracle Botanicals. Manuka oil comes from the same plant in New Zealand that the bees pollinate to make the famous Manuka honey. It also has been a proven anti fungal and anti bacterial (make sure you buy medical grade 400+ for max benefit)

I was given antibiotics for my mosquito bitten foot after coming back from holiday, all swollen and painful and told i must take them. Well I did all kinds of stuff. Soaked in cider vinegar. white tea. colloidal silver. Even basted my foot in a tumeric and rosemary coconut oil paste and wrapped it up in cling film. Smelt delicious in the morning. After 2 days it seemed to be working. What did it? who knows. Managed not to die anyway and healed my foot without dropping a nuclear bomb in my gut
@nicolaxoxo1
@nicolaxoxo1 8 жыл бұрын
littlebcally1 I realize it is not vegan but those bees are so valuable I assure you no one is harming them. The honey I use is substainably harvested and it is organic. Manuka honey has been proven to successfully treat drug resistant staph infections that are life threatening. It succeeded when all else failed. When it comes to this, I say use the honey. Personally I am allergic to many antibiotic topical preparations, many oral antibiotics, and even many plant based alternatives and was therefore using substances like this to stay out of the hospital. The last time I took oral antibiotics I ended up nearly dead from anaphylaxis so not eager to repeat that. The last topical antibiotic I used my face blew up and split open like a rotten pumpkin. Not eager to repeat that either.
@littlebcally1
@littlebcally1 8 жыл бұрын
+nicolaxoxo1 im not saying alternative to honey is antibiotics and you must take them. But you are kidding yourself if you think bees aren't harmed. And I don't think they enjoy making extra for humans, which is why they have to pacify them before stealing it. On any problem you have give nutritionfacts website a search. Haven't found a topic not covered yet, and I've looked pretty hard
