We exclusively use no till where I am in SD, water preservation is a must, and wind erosion post tillage is a big concern. Interesting to see the difference in agriculture practices in your area.

The case planter creates a Furrow differently then your traditional open or discs like white or deer. In the no-till soil as you build soil structure the closing system becomes something to keep an eye on. I go through a lot of sod oh, that old rootbound stuff that's hard to close and simple spiked Wheels have worked great! Really hard to beat strip till when that fertilizer is underneath the roots where there is always more moisture. All your fertilizer sitting in New Orleans doesn't do anything until it gets on the river just like fertilizer put on top or Incorporated shallow it needs that water to help life get it to the root system. All my notes Hill and conventional till maps of the same field will look very similar Thelma but where I did strip-till with a deep Shank and put the fertilizer underneath is unbelievable how much nicer the fields look. It took awhile to figure out in no-till that we lose that early flush of nutrients like in a tilled field. So we really had to change fertility management and now that we're banding are fertilizer in no-till it's really coming along!

Have you thought of using controlled traffic farming as well? Ie using the same tramlines (via rtk) for all passes inc the grain cart. To help minimise compaction from those big machines, especially on the heavy soils.

Good video we are almost all notill started in the 80s had to work most of our corn because we couldn't close it for some reason we run cast closing wheels I like the strips

That’s pretty interesting with the different planting methods and how it affects the corn roots and growth do you have any fears of the nitrogen leaching too fast ? On some of the ground we farm that happening and not being there when the plant needed it

It's difficult to imagine going without tilling for more than one year, especially with the large equipment running on that ground.

Very interesting root structure difference between Strip-Till and No-Till. Let's see what the yield difference will be. Strip-Till might be the way to go

Those test plots are cool stuff I heard a roomer couple years ago that JD was going to design a planter that had it all strip till just down Force good idea but I bet she pull hard as hell will you be going to all strip till ,,my neighbor plants no till corn year after year I looks bad for about three weeks and then like over night it grows like crazy???? No additional nitrogen is applied either!!

Here in N/E Tennessee we tried some no till for about 4 years. Couldn't make it work. We definitely do much less heavy tillage than we use to. But still about every 2-3 seasons have to completely turn over the dirt.

What’s the largest bottom field that you have? And is it a gumbo soil type or is it lighter?

If your dad uses smart path he can still set an a-b line and be able to switch back and between last pass and a-b lines without going back and creating a new line

the strip tilled plant is also much greener and a tad taller. seems the way to go to me!!!

Being disappointed in one or two year no till results and going back to tillage is like going to the gym for 2 days, realizing you didn't lose weight, so you get lipo. No till takes some time, and if you're not using cover crops with it you're doing it wrong.

Beans are pretty bad but I don't think that they're as bad as potatoes.. We use to get a 22'long 5' sides load of potatoe rejects a day.. We dumped them in the low spots of the field.. We would eventually level it out with a 4755 with a blade.. You could almost get stuck in rotten potatoes.. Talk about a stinking tractor.. Shewww
