So my drill has been frozen open for almost 4 years. Anyone I talked to said it would be too expensive to fix and I might as well get a new drill. I stopped researching the issue after 2 years because I never found a video or note that would help my situation. This fixed it immediately. I could give you a big ol'kiss for making this video, thank you so much!

Man this guy is a life saver, spent hours online looking for video tutorials, then turned out for my model it would cost more than the drill itself to get repaired . Only for this video to fix it in 3 seconds

Absolutely brilliant , fixed in seconds , I thought I was gona have to remove the chuck. If you wear gloves and use low speed there is no need for a vice grips. Thank you . This is what KZfaq is all about , helping people

Thank you so much. I’ve had same problem w a Dewalt DCD777 and following your video it fixed mine. After looking at my model # on Dewalt’s site & KZfaq vids looked like the only way to fix was buy a new chuck w gear box. Chuck on this model is not removable from gear box. Thanks again for a simple way to fix this drill. Saved me from having to buy a new drill.

Worked for my drill. Neighbour borrowed it (Bosch GSR 18V-85C), but his 14 yr old son decided he knew how to use it, and did exactly as you suggested: used the motor to open the jaws, held it too long, and they jammed at max expansion. (Denied he touched it at all, of course. 😑) Followed your advice, and it's back to normal. Thanks! 👍

This wasn't my issue but this realized what my problem was. Stupid ass mistake really... was late and wasn't thinking. Decided to share in case someone else isn't thinking. I was turning it wrong way. It was stuck open and I was turning it towards "Release" thinking I have to release it. Actually made the problem worse. After a good night sleep and watching this video made me realize what I was doing.
