[Recorded on 5-14-22] Well, it finally happened. Given all the content I've made about elevators, it was bound to happen at some point, and this video sums up the experience of my first time getting stuck in one. This happened at Clark Hall at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
I got in this situation by trying riding the elevator up to the 7th floor. The elevator stopped about a foot (0.3 meters) shy of the floor. Since this elevator usually runs pretty smoothly, I couldn't tell at first if it had made it.
After the police showed up on the scene, they activated fire service in an attempt to bring the elevator back down to the first floor. However, this didn't do anything since (1) the emergency stop was activated, and (2) as mentioned by the mechanic, fire service does not fix a broken elevator.
