Gaza elected the terrorist organization that armed itself to the teeth, cancelled further elections, killed the opposition, embezzled money and resources and waged war on Israel time and time again, resulting in suffering and civilian endangerment on both sides. Judea and Samaria's Palestinians were also forced into elections at the time, and they voted for the PLO, which also cancelled further elections and promoted terrorism through monetary rewards for terrorist acts. Both regions received autonomy. The one without supervision became a massive terrorist stronghold. The one with supervision and Israeli presence is massively more limited in its plenty acts of terrorism.

They broke a ceasefire that was in effect by attacking Israel on Oct. 7. They broke the ceasefire that was in effect back in November when hostages were being released. They could have ended the war, or at least achieved another ceasefire, which they probably would have broken, if they had released the rest of all the hostages. It is Hamas who has brought destruction and suffering to the people of Gaza.
