That color chart is so satisfying to look at with the coordinating colors in the different brands. I don't need a palette this big (yet lol) but it's really helpful to see how other people set their's up!

That looks like a dream-palette. How wonderful to have that many colors at hand and so well organized. Great work on the color chart. If you don't mind standing, another old-school transfer method is to trace on a window. I've done it with 140lb watercolor paper and it works - on sunny days, anyway. :)

I'm a patron of an artist that designed one of the their palettes... I've been intrigued by some of the inserts.. I've been looking everywhere for a color wheel palette that is ceramic ( I have NO idea why this is not a common item) or at least one designed for use with a split primary set. I just don't think I can do plastic, I'm spoiled I guess. I do love the liners.. that is a major issue with most "permanent" palettes.. trying to change your mind or even clean out a well is a major mess usually... which is why I've gone to pans for everything. Did it wind up staining or beading?

Only a little bit of staining but no beading. There is a ceramic mixing insert that you can get for the middle area of the palette, so perhaps that will help you split the difference. Also, the well inserts make it so that you can swap out colors easily and makes them easy to clean.

@@MysteryArts TY! I'm actually looking at the insert itself to use as a palette, there is one set up in exactly the format I'm looking for, with a lid.. just the material I was concerned about. I appreciate your response, it's difficult to find reviews since they are an independently manufactured item.

I have the bigger one and I love it, but sometimes I think I need a smaller size... they are really useful!

Which brand of 1/2 pans are you using? I had to file the edges down a bit to fit mine.

@@PaperPremise Sorry, didn't see this until now. All of the half pans are Schmincke brand--they fit very tight and I had to smoosh them in, but no modifications to the pans. Winsor Newton is also smaller and would probably fit without any modification.

I am trying to decide between the 42 well Robax and a porcelain 32 well palette. How many wells does yours have? How many inches in a diameter is this one? Thank you

Mine is the 12" 36 well palette with the 41 well insert bundle.

I read that some brands of pans do not fit. What brands do you have?

Renee Marks these pans are all Schmincke pans, and although they are a tight fit, they do fit. Given their smaller size, I’m sure that Winsor Newton pans would fit as well.
