My mother had the same complaints and reported them to her doctor who brushed her off. She discontinued use when the pain and weakness made it dangerous for her to walk and saw an immediate improvement. They called me and threatened to knock her off disability (shortly after a major stroke) for “non-compliance”. We got it all straightened out after multiple discussions - none of which included my mother, the actual patient! Now imagine if I didn’t have a good relationship with her and hadn’t known what was going on. What if she was a patient without any family?

Heart patient here. I had huge arguments with doctors over Statins. Aside from the constant pain they made my legs weak and so they'd collapse under me with no warning. The doctors couldn't understand that collapsing while crossing the road is a more serious risk than a possible future heart attack. As far as they were concerned Statins are a wonder drug and I was a heretic for speaking against them.

I am a retired physician. I was on statins for high cholesterol, and everything hurt. Then I was diagnosed with cancer, so I decided I wasn’t going to need to prevent heart disease, so I quit my statin. Also, I love grapefruit, which you can’t have if you are on a statin drug. But that's not science!!!! Yeah, I mean a few people - but a lot reported the problem. Statins are overprescribed anyway - especially for people over 70 years. My doctor put me on a statin almost a year ago. Every visit, I tell her I'm fatigued all the time, muscle cramps, stomach pain my A1c is going up. She has no answer. Now she says I'm diabetic.my diet is fine and no one in my family is diabetic. Without telling her I'm going to stop taking the statin and use Berberine or Bergamot. Then I'm gonna look into switching to a DO doctor. Most dictors today prescibe medicine for a problem and then the medication causes a another problem so the doctor prescribes another medicine. We're all getting sicker and big pharmaceuticals are getting rich from it. Im 55 and need to look for a doctor who is invested in a patients health and explain conditions not just prescribe a pill.

Taking the max daily dose of acetaminophen in conjunction with the max daily dose of ibuprofen still left me lying on my bed crying in pain. Did a quick search and saw the info on the issue with statins. Told my doctor I was stopping the medication...within 2 weeks and in the 6 years since stopping...NO BODY PAIN. A few vitamins that may be of benefit (research/ask a qualified/trusted nutritionist) are vitamin B complex, vitamin D (at least 4 or 5 thousand ius, maybe more to begin with) magnesium/potassium (as long as he is NOT on meds that can INCREASE potassium levels) vitamin C (no more than 500 mg) and zinc (no more than 40 mg). Of course, diet and water intake are very important roles.

Years ago, I had a bad case of bronchitis, and I knew it. I saw my primary, and he decided to put me on acid reflux medications, much to my dismay, and he refused to x-ray my chest to confirm my suspicions. Two days later I end up in the ER, and my nurse did the history, what meds I was on, etc. When she heard I was on acid reflux meds, she told me of the evils of those medications. Those meds are statins and thicken the mucus in your lungs, that's why you are much sicker than you were two days ago. She told me I have options to either quit taking them and go on a very strong strain of antibiotics (after seeing the x-ray, I was shocked), or end up with pneumonia and possibly die from that. Naturally, I chose the antibiotics and stopped seeing that primary immediately. Rose A, I praise your decision to stop taking them, because they are dangerous!! Stay well, my friend!!

Anyone thinking about taking statins should read the book “The Great Cholesterol Myth”. A family member (woman) was taking statins. She went to see her doctor on a Monday and he was so happy to see her “great numbers” - meaning how low her cholesterol was. Less that 36 hours later, she had a heart attack.

Red yeast rice (if you can get the real untampered thing, preferably by making it yourself starting with stuff you buy at an Oriental grocery) in fact contains a statin. Oyster mushrooms do also (but don't overdo them, half a mushroom per day is probably ballpark target). Back 15 years ago when I didn't have any insurance and I'd run out of Lipitor, I ate one oyster mushroom per day. My blood tests later that year showed that was too much. The drawback of these natural solutions is that it's hard to know what actual dosage you're getting, and it probably varies from batch to batch.

Did not ask any questions about lifestyle, BMI, resting pulse rate, etc. I asked her "So because of this one biomarker you want to put me on a drug with known side effects?". Yes, she said. She got quite upset when I resisted. I've done some research and these drugs are bad. 25% of patients get side effects, and that's just theones identified. God knows if they are contributing to dementia, Parkinson's and the epidemic of Type 2 diabetes. Don't take them. Go on a plant-based diet and get some exercise.

I took a statin and was not warned about the muscle pain. It was debilitating. Unbelievable that they have framed this as “we thought it was all in their heads.” The pain was so severe I could barely stand. I thought I was having some kind of attack, or maybe had blood clots in my legs. I was furious when the doctor was nonchalant and said no problem, it’s just a statin side effect. No surprise that the big drug companies finally publicize this and play like they just discovered these side effects when they have brought new, extremely expensive substitutes to market. Hey, if there weren’t any side effects to the old statins (which had outlived their lucrative patents), why spend millions and years getting new ones with fewer side effects approved?

As soon as I started taking them I noticed that when walking along a regular totally flat route, it felt as if I was walking up a hill! No pain or aches, just a tingling sensation I recall. I told the doc straight away that I was going to stop taking them. I feel fine 5 years later, and I’m still here! After doing keto, ALL of my labs are normal, including type 2. Plus, they make you think 'cholesterol' is a bad thing. I have my yearly visit with my cardiologist tomorrow. I had a single by-pass in early 2000, and have been under the care of a cardiologist since then. The last time I saw him, he was going over my chart and said, 'I see you haven't been getting your simavastain filled.' I told him that was right, that I had been doing a lot of research and didn't like what I read, plus, I told him about all of the side effects I'd had over a decade. He just gave me that 'look' and said I'm going to call you some in. I took them for a few days and stopped again. He'll probably confront me again tomorrow, but I'm telling him that I have to advocate for myself, since no one else will and if he wants to drop me as a patient, that will be fine too. Plus, I've known him since he was a child. Our families went to church together and he was friends with my sons in school, so it's not like we're strangers. I have a list of symptoms if he wants to go 'there.' Since the 'plandemic' I don't trust anyone in health care anymore.

Could not climb stairs. Blood work indicated liver damage. Quit the drug and slowly recovered. Next year tried another statin; essentially the same results. These findings are no surprise to me....

My Dr didn’t believe statins caused muscle cramps. With the excruciating muscle cramps I experienced, especially when in the groin area, I howled liked a dog in pain once and another time it was so bad I was lying on the floor vomiting and peeing myself with pain. I took myself off it and told her what I had done…….No drug is worth that amount of pain.

Dear,@glynisbuie4234, I'm reading your comment of a year ago, you sound like me, you describe your story just as if happened to me, except I didn't pee myself. I was on statins from 2012 to when I took myself off on 2013. The muscle spasms in my legs were enough for me to wish for DEATH. Unreal PAIN. I have read like 30 comments on this video. I stop taking cholesterol pills of any kind. Doc. thinks I'm still taking them. I was around 65 or 66 years old then. I'm 78 years old now. Anyways, I always try to eat a balance small meal, I have always exercise since my younger days. That year was the worse year of my life. Love your comment thumbs up. My dad had COPD but was managing it very well with diet, exercise, and, moderate meds (when needed). Being a heavy smoker in his youth he had to undergo heart surgery and was immediately, put on statins. When his whole personality changed and the pain and induced diabetes took over, I intervened. He was afraid to say anything to me about the meds believing doctors know best (yeah, right) but I got him off everything except the one heart med that was needed. So, from 10 meds to 1. Sadly, the damage was done and he died a couple of years after that. I'll see a doctor if I have to but, they'll never get me on these drugs or, any drugs for that matter. So much for the Hippocratic Oath.

I don't understand why it took a scientific study to prove what patients have been telling us for years! I've always listened to my patients. If they tell me something is causing a symptom, especially when so severe, I take them off the medication.I don't know what is so hard about that. There's nothing psychosomatic about having severe muscle aches and pain, and my husband is one of those people who couldn't tolerate statins. Maybe now doctors will start listening to patients. I certainly hope so as it would improve our medical care by leaps and bounds.

I had an initial physical upon entering VA Healthcare where I was in good condition and not experiencing any problems. The blood test showed that I had a lower than average level of vitamin D and an elevated cholesterol level, for which I was prescribed Atorvastatin(Lipitor) 40 mg/day. Another blood test in about 3 months showed my cholesterol and vitamin D level normal but that I was in stage 2 renal failure. At this time I was also experiencing painful leg cramps and problems with urination, color and odor. I also noticed that my short-term memory was deteriorating with trouble in my cognitive skills. I immediately stopped the medication, limited my salt and protein intake and subsequently noticed a partial remission in my symptoms over time. The taking of the Lipitor was the only thing that I had changed in my life since the two blood tests, and so I attributed the kidney damage to the Lipitor.

Cholesterol dropped 7.9 to 6.9, triglyceride plummeted from 4.7 to 0.8, total/HDL Chol Ratio 3.1 all in 6 months. Doctor still insisting I take statins. Studies are showing that post menopausal women (me) who have high LDL have less cancer, CVD, less autoimmune disease and live longer. It's just a money making scheme for pharmaceutical companies and lets not forget cigarette companies insisted that their product was safe and we all know how that went.

@@Stewmade64 Plaque builds up in response to cardiovascular disease. It's trying to repair damage to the artery wall. If you are not eating foods that cause the inflammation that leads to CVD then no plaque will build up. Human beings have only been eating grains for 12000 years, before that we were hunter gatherers eating mainly animal protein and only ate carbohydrates for very limited times of seasonal availability. There is documented research about the poor health of civilisations that ate mostly grain based diets. Egyptian skeletons show dental decay and bone disease even in relatively young mummy's and they ate a grain and corn based diet with very little animal protein. Keto based diets are nutrient dense and there is no evidence that they are harmful long term. That's plant based propaganda.

Irene Ewens wow, don’t know what science based studies you’ve read. What do you think causes cardio vascular disease? Genetics? THERE IS CHOLESTEROL IN ANIMAL PRODUCTS. Look up Arteriosclerosis sometime. Look at our teeth compared to another carnivore. Our teeth were not meant to eat meat. But comparing prehistoric “hunters & gatherer meat to today’s mass produced industrialized meat farms, you are getting hormones that don’t belong in humans, your getting allowable amounts of antibiotics, far from “nutrient” you can get. I’m not talking just grains, I’m talking a whole plant based diet. The same beneficial blood work and health improvements will occur without the worry about bacteria poisoning, hormones, or antibiotics. The meat and dairy industry also produces studies that you are most likely following in order to insure survival of their industries. I work with 5 cardiac surgeons that also agree with me. Maybe do some research from JAMA studies instead of Dr Oz. Just don’t be surprised when you start getting heart palpitations or one side of your face starts to sag.

Reference ranges on lab tests for substances found in the human body are determined by statistical analysis with 95% of values being inside the normal range. Cholesterol is the only lab value that isn't done this way to make more people abnormal. Forty years ago the normal range for cholesterol was 150-300 mg/dl which is the proper way of determining the values. Today a proper statistical analysis of cholesterol would be lower due to intake of statins. Drug companies got labs to make the range below 200 so they could put most people on statins. I am a retired laboratory medical technologist. Most hormones are made from cholesterol so if you get your cholesterol too low you will have hormone deficiencies like low testosterone. Drug companies are as corrupt as the tobacco companies.
