Grew up in Bakersfield, can confirm

A few months ago I had the choice between Albuquerque or Bakersfield (closer to family in LA). I went with Albuquerque and never looked back.

we moved here this year, and we love living in Bakersfield! Life is what you make it. I don't put much stock in these polls and studies, but that's me.

I moved to Bakersfield 5 months ago and it's not that bad. I come from South Central LA where we loved to party and be Hood! Now that am in the 93306 area between Mt vernon and University its hella nice. Calm, who wouldn't want to raise there kids in that area. Its like any other city has there hood areas. Bakersfield is growing quickly

Putting things into context. Brandeis University would be considered very liberal. One reviewer posted, "Brandeis can only be described as super liberal, sometimes to the point of irritation." When asked on one poll, How would you best describe the political beliefs of campus as a whole? Based on 61 responses. Progressive/very liberal. With that said, is it possible that these college studies look at conservative cities and automatically ding them compared to Hollywood or other liberal cities across the country? Bakersfield Tuff

More like the best place to grow up. Become a construction guy. General contracting. Will always be needed.

I grew up in Bakersfield and I'm a home owner.

This study still remains true. If you want your child to grow up to be depressed, a drug addict, in & out of jail most of their life, uneducated, etc then Bakersfield is the place for you.

That’s an out right lie. I live here and I’m enjoying life. I was BORN here. Sure, it has its flaws but doesn’t mean it’s “the worst place to grow up”

I was raised there and lived there until my early 20s. I then opted to check out the rest of the U.S. The only places I found to be worse in crime and lack of opportunity were Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Everywhere else was more welcoming and offered more opportunities, including the backwoods of Tennessee and my current home in Eastern Washington.

I t not just the poor that suffers. We are middle class and do not qualify for any assistance and because of that my son was unable to attend pre school. So I try and get him interaction with learning and other children as much as I can. One thing we do is go on walks but it has became so dangerous in our community that I am afraid to do that. Last week a teenager was stabbed while on his bike 8 houses away. I wrote the city about the growing populating of homeless and the long list of issues that come a long with homeless living on the streets around neighborhoods and they replied that there was nothing they could do. With in a mile of my home people are using drugs out in the open, passing out on the ground and dumping garbage all over the place. I have compassion for homeless as I once was one myself, but something needs to be done. The police do not come when you call and children are getting stabbed. I don't even live in a bad area. Stockdale and Ca area.

I love bakersfield. There are pros and cons to any city. I'm glad to be here and to raise my family here. 🤗

Bakersfield isn’t that bad. I lived in SE San Diego for years and it was ghetto as hell. Everywhere in California has bad aspects, but I can say Bakersfield isn’t the worst place to grow up.
