I've walked a path of fear and self-loathing that has led me to a lot of conclusions regarding spirituality. And amongst this path I have began to realize that a lot of values that I've gathered on my journey start to align with Buddhism. From here, I would like to continue down the path of enlightenment and hopefully begin studying Buddhism. The difficulty is, I live in a small back water Christian town in the middle of Canada, I'm not sure how, or if I'd be able to find someone, or even something to help me begin.

Why do you need a religion?
@leoterss4 жыл бұрын
@@delmonte6649 Atleast for me, i'm agnostic in Christianism, which is odd for a very christian centered family. However I found that Buddhism is the first religion I would actually try harder to get into, because it's not about praying to a god for forgiveness (you can do it of course) but it's about self improvement. I think Buddhism improves you as a person and that is always welcome. So why do I need a religion, in this case, why do I need Buddhism? To advance as an individual
@delmonte66494 жыл бұрын
RestlessRiot You can do that without religion. It seems that you mean you want religion for those reasons. I’m not talking bad about you or Buddhism when I say that. I simply mean by saying, you need religion to advance yourself, that also would mean you can’t advance yourself without it. As the ladder statement isn’t true and the former statement depends on the ladder, therefore the former isn’t true either.
@leoterss4 жыл бұрын
@@delmonte6649 I know what you're saying, and I didn't need religion to fight and get rid of very horrible issues with me such as transphobia, but I feel like Buddhism can help me even more, that being said there are no monks and teachers in my town so i don't really know what to do.
@delmonte66494 жыл бұрын
RestlessRiot I recommend looking at eastern philosophy as a whole. I’ve looked into Buddhism already and as the teachings can provide a happy life they are not the only way to live and gain the same or even happier of a life. Concepts like Stoicism, Zen/Zen Buddhism, Hinduism and Even western religion and philosophy (like Christianity) have already been conceptualized together. When talking to buddhists 6000 years ago they recommend finding a teacher which often is a Zen master or someone fluent in Buddhist teaching to convey the proper message of Buddhism. And even today they recommend that. However even without a teacher today you can learn without one directly in person or if you want to be deep about it in a different period in time. I would recommend starting with Allan Watts while learning about (As I describe) ‘odd’ philosophers like ‘Diogenes the dog’ (You’ll find out more as your interest grows in the subject) and then continue to more modern philosophers like Jordan Peterson and Sam Harris who at first glance appear to be polar opposites. But I recommend Allan Watts first because his books and voice lectures can give you what you’re looking for about eastern philosophy. And especially Buddhism because it’s what he talks about most.

I love learning about Buddhism and I made a video on one of the 3 marks of existence in Buddhism know as imperminance which is to say that nothing in life is permanent, not your job, your emotions or even the very elements that make up life. It's all a constant dance that we should be aware of and not instinctively react to. Be aware of imperminance on a permanent basis, ha! Be the silent witnessing presence in the here and now. Great video! :)

@@factspoken9062 Ok let me clear u this gadimai thing. If u ask nepali people about gadimai festival then most of them will say no cuz we nepalese don't celebrate gadimai festival. Yes, unfortunately gadimai festival happens in nepal(i don't know where but some where closer to indian border) every 5 years cuz the temple is located here but the practitioner are mostly from india bihar state. They cross the borders illegally with tons of animals with them. We found out about gadimai only few years back(from news) and we r against it. Nepalese people and government is trying their best to stop animal sacrifice and it is also banned to sacrifice animals in that temple now.
