JHS Pedals

JHS Pedals

Күн бұрын

Stu G of the British band Delirious? came to hang out at JHS and Josh talked with him about some of his most famous and iconic gear. If you've heard their music, you know that Stu was creating amazing tones, and these pedals were at the center of the Delirious? sound. The Line 6 might just be the most "normal" pedal in his rig, but each is weird and special in its unique way. They come together to create something magical. In November of 2017, we released the Kilt, our signature guitar pedal with Stu based on the Expandora. The Kilt brings all the internal switches to the surface and features a specifically chosen op-amp that creates a smoother structure and less noise than the Expandora at its heart. If you'd like a chance to win a JHS Kilt v2 and a Red Remote, please fill out the form below!

I can’t begin to express how thankful I am for this insight to my favorite guitarist, band, songs and albums. Stu, you are answering questions I’ve had for over 20 years. I wish there was more deep dives on the internet about delirious? like this! Just having more footage of Stu playing these classics that isn’t filmed on a potato is awesome

Man I was not expecting to see Stu G on JHS! What an awesome video. One thing I've always wondered is whether/how much Delrious were an influence on bands like Muse, because I have no idea if Matt Bellamy was even aware of Stu G's tones but some of his output in that era are strikingly similar to tones Stu pioneered some years previously...

It’s certainly possible as both bands shared a bill at least once - back when D? had some sort of mainstream deal with Virgin.

In '96 or '97 I drove over 700 miles to Seattle to get an Expandora EXP2000. Couldn't get them where I lived at the time, and no real reliable online ordering at the time. Ran the Expandora in crunch mode into my Green Russian Big Muff. It sounded like the end of the world. That was my sound for a decade.

I loved this. I thought it was cool how he said they were looking for some smashing pumpkins sounds. I've always thought stuff like "Hang on to You, Investigate" and "My Glorious" had tones like that. Which I love. I wish Delirious? Would reunite. CCM needs them! I will say, Martin Smith's solo albums are great too.

I think keywords for the Talker are "vocoder" and "formant synthesis". It's a set of bandpass filters manipulated either by analyzing inputs from the mic (i.e. a vocoder) or in some kind of sweep for the "wah" version, plus other weirdness I don't understand

My 1st two pedals were the Whammy Wah and the DL4. I spent years exploring those pedals. That detune setting was my go-to. Every time I’d let a chord ring out I’d push that pedal down. Next pedal was the MM4. P.S. the best part of those pedals to me were the history/manual booklets they came with. I hope you can do a deep dive on that Line 6 series.
