Wasn’t advocating for or against Dolly in the RRHoF but the fact remains she’s in kinda pointless to argue that. If memory serves me Dolly tried to decline saying exactly that, “I’m not a rock singer” but was lobbied by fans and other RRHoF members to accept and changes her mind and did. Bottom line of my comment was Linda had certainly sung much more country material than Dolly has Rock so if Dolly is in Rock (and she certainly is) then Linda deserves recognition in Country HoF

Penzance was an operetta, a comic opera, and unsurprisingly she was gorgeous (in every sense of the word) in it, both on stage and in the filmed adaptation. But she also did a spell in 1984, on stage of a legitimate opera: Giacomo Puccini’s ‘La Boheme’, performed in English, as the dying Mimi. Though the sound quality is, unfortunately, not the best, it can be found on KZfaq.

Linda Rondstadt HAS done a comic opera, actually! lol She was in a Broadway production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance! I think there's a film version of it if you want to react to that. It's impressive, of course, and she nails it! High soprano songs. She stars in it alongside Kevin Kline and late 70-early 80s pop star Rex Smith(who you should react to, also. He does a wonderful song called You Take My Breath Away that was very successful for him.

I seem to remember in an interview or her biography that Linda mentioned having a crush on Smokey Robinson. If you want to enjoy a performance of both of them singing together, they perform a duet of Ooo Baby, Baby live on a television show. The look in her eyes tells you how big her crush really is. But their voices really tell you how much they love singing together. Next up, POOR, POOR, PITIFUL ME, or her cover up the Rolling Stones song, TUMBLING DICE.

That’s a Pedal Steel guitar (looks like a guitar neck on a stand with pedals). Slide generally refers to a regular guitar where the player uses a “slide” which can be a variety of objects (bottle neck, metal tube, etc). The players do also use a similar object on a Pedal Steel. Some good songs with Pedal Steel to check out “The Wheel” by Jerry Garcia ( Grateful Dead) or “Panama Red” by New Riders of the Purple Sage with Buddy Cage.

I absolutely fell in love with her face when I went as a 16 year old to buy the Stone Poneys Evergreen album for at home and the 8-track tape (if you even know what that is) for cruising in my ‘55 Chevy. Was fortunate to see her twice in the 70s and she did not disappoint. Her duet with Aaron Neville, Don’t Know Much, will become one of your favorites - two incredible voices. Wow!! Also, for THREE amazing voices together check out Mr Sandman by Linda, Dolly and Emmylou Harris, who recorded several albums together as “Trio”. They will floor you, and a great choice for Female Friday (three for the price of one).

Did you know that Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and Randy Meisner were all a part of Linda Ronstadt's band before breaking away to form the Eagles. That shows why her music was so good to have great musicians and singers in her band.

You guys mentioned how Linda is so versatile. She can sing--and HAS sung--just about every style possible. You have had a taste of her range, but there is so much more. She had a New Wave phase in the 80s (Check out "How Do I Make You"), recorded a trilogy of Great American Songbook classics like "What's New" and "Someone to Watch Over Me," and did operetta (check out "Poor Wandering One" from The Pirates of Penzance). Truly one of a kind.

Linda Ronstadt her voice defined a generation, Linda had one of the greatest voices of my generation she did so much Country, Rock, Pop, R&B, Jazz, Latin, and the list goes on. When she did a song it didn't matter what song she did she made it her own, Amazing Talent and Performer.

Linda in the eighties made three albums of standards from the Great American Songbook. Some of my favorites are What’ll I Do, For Sentimental Reasons, Someone To Watch Over Me, and Bewitched Bother and Bewilderd

Another side of Linda’s voice that would be wonderful to react to is her singing big band era songs under the direction of Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra. There are several albums to choose from, and all of them are so good.

4:55 , while not opera, I remember Linda in Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Pirates of Penzance back in 1983. Exceptional. There are also recordings of her doing a La Bohème. You’re not kidding when you say she can sing anything and blow it out of the water.

7:20 Hello I am 57 years old and I grew up listening to Linda Ronstadt and she is amazing I also love Arron Neville his voice with hers is like two puzzles pieces fitting together perfectly. They did other duets together I believe 3 of them all just as amazing as this one. She also did a duet with Smokey Robinson singing this song and I got to say that it was so awesome I believe they performed it on a show maybe it was an music awards show if you don’t believe me then check it out for yourself and believe me it will be worth the time it takes

Amber, I have been in love with Linda for about 50 years now. She has been my favorite female performer for a very long time. Took my girlfriend (now my wife) to a Linda concert in 1981. I told her that I love her but if Linda ever pulls up in my driveway and asks me to go with her that I am going. That deal still stands. LoL

opera you said? try her film adaptation of gilbert and sullivan's 1870's or 1880's comic romantic opera 'pirates of penzance'. i absolutely adored it! you have to remember that this is an opera written in queen victoria's time in england, and with the humor of that time. linda plays the female lead, and i thought it was great 🙂.

In the album version Linda hits high notes in the end. Linda did indeed sing in one opera, La Boheme, by Puccini. She used to see operas at the San Francisco Opera. She also sang in the film version of Pirates of Penzance, an operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan. Indeed, Linda can and does sing everything.I recommend reading her autobiography in which she wrote a lot about music and singing. Some folks object to white artists singing songs written by Black artists. Smokey Robinson doesn't object at all. He said it was the greatest compliment when performers sing his songs.

Like everyone else here, in my mind Linda Ronstadt is one of the greatest and most versatile female singers of all time. She is one of those performers who could sing the phone book and I would be mesmerized! As others have mentioned, Linda did dabble in opera/light opera, and (SPOILER ALERT) she NAILED IT!! I also agree with others that you should check out some of the standards she recorded with Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Truly outstanding! The Linda Ronstadt rabbit hole is a deep one. So many songs to choose from, including many covers. I would highly recommend you check out her cover of the Rolling Stones classic Tumblin' Dice for a rocking, sassy side of Linda. Her vocals, especially towards the end, are very powerful!
