To clarify, EOD was $175-150 after upgrading. Unheard was an additional $150 for EOD owners not $250. Now it's 70% and it's $50 upgrade even tho you'll get it free.

The way I see it is this: Let's say you open up a Savings Account with a bank that promises you 10% interest per year. you Put $250 into that account, hoping to recieve 25 bucks next year, and so on, under the stipulation that you can't get the original $250 itself back. so you're only receiving the interest so long as you leave that $250 alone, but you hope that after enough time, the interest itself pays back what you spent for it. But then your bank tells you they won't actually give you this year's interest payment unless you pay, say, an additional 10 bucks or so, which instead of an additional investment, they label it as some sort of Fee to justify it. So technically, you only got $15 profit that year on your investment, And the amount of money you put in is *more* than you originally planned to. See how terrible that sounds? Now replace that interest with the Content you receive for the game, and/or the intended enjoyment you would receive from it. you get less enjoyment overall from the simple fact you had to pay more than you intended for it, *even if you technically still received the original interest payment.*

Theres a reason that a lot of developers will specify how many / what DLC are included in an upgrade pack. Like saying "the GOTY version gets you the base game and the 4 major planned DLC". Then anything other than the 4 DLC will obviously be separate.

I’m so happy that you are coving this! If you do happen to make a third video on this and happen to read my comment there are two things I think you should point out that are important the first one being that in the unheard edition you are able to “call in for backup” from your friends list. So people can literally have there friends SPAWN in the MIDDLE of a raid! It’s an extraction shooter and I think that’s just game breaking. The second point is that a lot of hackers on EFT have come out and actually have been targeting the Unheard users. Last night I just saw a hacker live-streaming on TikTok going after people who bought the unheard edition and people who play the game were supporting the hacker for doing this . Again thank you for putting a massive spotlight on this issue and just being a great guy. Hopefully you make another video and point these two things out because I think it would show just how, one broken and unfair the unheard edition is and how mad people really are about it.

8:10 I wonder what will happen for the EOD owners that caved and bought the access through either the full price or discounted upgrade… especially now that half the items that were pay-to-win are being “reworked” or likely removed before the community gets done with them. So basically some people either just dropped $250, $100, or $50 depending on when they bought the edition/upgrade and now they are only getting a portion of what they payed for… while a ton of other EOD owners who waited are just getting the main portion PvE mode for free. He really can’t fix this unfortunately. Also…. With as huge as this got and as many people know about it, They probably are going to lose quite a bit of money spending time developing this mode and essentially giving it away for free to a massive portion of people they were hoping would be paying for it. If not lose money, they definitely won’t be making nearly as much as they planned. Maybe I am wrong and a bunch of new players will somehow miss all of this controversy and just now after years of popularity decide to start playing Tarkov and also buy into the game at the highest tier? I feel that’s unlikely… but maybe there is a bigger market of people with tons of disposable income that still have yet to start playing Tarkov and who will still decide to buy in at the $250 tier despite the controversy. Then again I also might be overestimating how much this dlc cost to develop. Maybe it was a simple thing to develop in a short period of time, therefore keeping development costs very low allowing even small sales to make up for the investment. 😮 Yes it’s entirely their fault because they could have done this in a fair manner and monetized it fairly. I guess it depends on how much time/money this mode costs them to develop if this whole situation still remains profitable for them.

When you backtrack a tiny bit to hopefully prevent a class action suit. I have the EoD edition but quit playing a long time ago. I might check out the PVE mode to be able to enjoy the new maps without the sweats and cheaters. I feel like Nikita will pull something like this again, but will just try to be slicker about it. The game has a stain on it that it may never recover from.

Being Stupider than John Riccitiello is an accomplishment of its own

BSG half assed the hell out of PvE servers, they could have made the PvE/Co-op servers run locally on machines so that they wouldn't have to host those servers themselves (just like how SPT does it) and that would have saved them a ton of money. The players would have also been happy with that resolution as they wouldn't have had to wait in server queues for a single player session.

This is literally the real life equivalent of the “we’re sorry” episode from south park.

ESO pulled the same thing since subscribers were supposed to get all DLC free so they started calling new major DLC "chapters" and claimed they were not DLC so subs had to pay for them

Far Cry 6 did something somewhat similar where you could buy a season pass for all future DLC, but it only gave you the first three and the fourth one was like 40 dollars or something.

This is just the current state of companies in general. The whole point is to over-reach, get blasted, make a compromise. It's the easiest and quickest way to gauge consumer sentiment. The same thing happened with BMW's heated seat subscription, it wouldn't surprise me if that youtube channel you covered recently followed in the same trend. Create a plan A and B, present plan B, "fall back" on plan A. That way it doesn't seem so bad in comparison.

The insane pricing model currently used by the games industry makes people forget that $150 for a pre-alpha game 7 years ago was astronomically high. $250 is just ludicrous.

This is why a lot of games become bad or fall off after they get popular. After a little success devs start seeing only dollar signs instead of actually improving the game.

Ten or more years ago Nikita was in charge of free to play game called Contract Wars (basically a budget battlefield ripoff for poor CIS people like me that couldn’t afford good pc or better games) The game had tech tree and the skills are unlocked by SP (skill points that are given for each Level that you get) and the amount of levels therefore SP are limited (different people unlocked different skills depending on what playstyle they had) But there was some skills that you couldn’t just buy for SP, there was two most broken skills that you could buy for some time (from 24h to 1 month) for GP (gold points, which is paid in game currency) one gives you insane amount of armour and you don’t die from headshots and other increases your bullet penetration ability So if you meet the player that has both you just can’t kill him and he kills you in 2-3 hits (doesn’t matter if you upgraded your skill tree to get 100 armour) So as game grew in popularity this skills became a big problem, if you are playing against the player like that - you are just an NPC for him to kill You want to know what was Nikita’s solution? In game roulette for GP, where you had very small % of getting SP And do you know what it led to? People spent a lot of money to spin the wheel thousands of times to get unlimited amount of SP and unlocked every possible skill Before - you had to choose between increased accuracy, faster reload, lower recoil, ability to see the through the walls if your enemy makes noise, ability to walk silently, ability to walk faster, increased damage, increased bullet penetration, armour, 2 grenades that you can throw very far and increased damage for them, fucking regeneration to 35 or 45 hp… Now imagine what game looked liked when your enemy had every fucking ability in the game :) With that money squeezing choices game started dying and they tried to save it by adding Hardcore mode (game mode where everyone was the same) so they fucked the game and proposed to forget about everything you were spending tons of hours to unlock and just play without it And then Nikita left the game to die and went to work on another project 😊

Greed really appears to have driven these decisions, betraying the community. This is a harsh lesson for the gaming industry.

I was playing a game of Insurgency Sandstorm a while back on the PvE mode, and while we were waiting for the round start we were chatting, and someone asked if we played Tarkov. One guy said no, since hackers were so abundant in game. The guy challenged him on it, said maybe it wasn’t so bad and the devs were working on it. This guy then had us join his personal discord server, wherein he provided screenshots from a game hacking server he was a member of. The screenshots were of leaked code and patch information from Tarkov that could assist with workarounds for the new patch. Thing is, the leaks on the server were dated ONE WEEK before the patch actually dropped. Tarkov has been screwed for years from the inside, so this is just digging the hole a little deeper than it already was.
