Yeah honestly they were both pretty damn loud but SU was definitely cleaner, sounds like one ensemble (no huge stickouts) clean releases without hangovers and high quality tuba sound as well

@Dtex We played Mr J's version n 03 @ JSU. But still n all, ppl can't really say Banda r jocking off other bands arrangements when many of times there r only so many ways u can write a song. It's a Doug E. Fresh tune with an Inspector Gadget melody in it. So who's jocking who?!

@valerie1029 that song belong to Southern University. We was the First College Band to ever play it. Go youtube this song SU from the 1980's... also, why jsu added Southern's unique style and sound to this song. the break at 2:31 jsu has added to them version? While your youtubing shit. Check out how jsu's band has changed its style to sound like Southern. the only problem is that that dont sound good. its just noise.. why.. because thats what happens when your not being yourself.

@DTex Oh no, don't get me wrong! I didn't say that is the SOLE reason!!! But, as a composer/arranger myself, it DOES help to hear what someone else has left out/could have added. SU does have the best team of dedicated arrangers in the SWAC, and possibly HBCU marching band world, if you ask me.

And no, I know the difference in their sound though. Jsu is going to be louder than Su regardless simply because they are always in tune for one and the size difference, but even if Jsu were small like in 05 they could still put out way more sound, simply because they are always in tune.

If you're gonna cut through while another band is playing with the same song, at least have more than volume. SU, "The Show" was AW and FUL!

@a7u0g6boi ...yea, I feel you. BUT (IMO)...with SU's track record of being the better arrangement of any number of songs versus other bands...I don't think that arguement holds much weight. Valid...but, borderline irrelevant. Ain't too many songs that JSt has a better writing on.

su band is good. they have a good range and balance between horns......but no dynamics. JSU takes this one even if you couldn't hear them half the time.lol. But don't forget both of these bands have talent.

@DTex I agree, but I will give the same impartial reply that I give to other bands who say the same thing about a song SU was playing first: It's easy to out-arrange another band after you heard them play it a million times. I hear JSU play it and it is just SO empty. Our arranger realized that and capitalized on it.

Oh yeah those werent the flutes helping JSU screamers. The reason why their screamers sound clearier is because all the trumpets aint screaming, the rest are playing their parts.

I don't know how long JSU been playing "the show" but SU's version is older than what most of y'all think. Mr. J wrote it when he was a high school band director. Not sure what year that was but he's been at SU since the early 90s. So do the math. Can't really say it was written around JSU's version.

su arrangement was better than jsu's.. it was more aggresive. jsu's neck was on point. but if i had to pick, i would go wit su, only because the arrangement of da show. i didnt like that both bands were playin at once. -__-

First off you will never hear woodwinds cut through brass when brass players are cranking. Those screams that you hear through the songs are trumpet players. Range wise, jsu would shit on SU. Not to mention, in jsu neck their btones play alot higher than su's btones in it, the tubas and mellos even play up there.
