Sub vs dub is so dumb, it also doesn't help that the sub side really seem to be talking about english dubs and not dubs in other languages, infact when you bring up other dubs in other languages they kinda skirt around it almost as if to avoid offending other languages while being highly superior towards a langauge they don't natively speak. Honestly people should just let people watch it in what ever language you prefer and just leave it at that.

I personally believe no translation can ever be equal to or better than the original, no matter sub or dub. There is always some nuance that's going to get lost in the process. Hovever I personally stick with subs, since that's the closest thing to being able to watch the show/movie the way it was intended to be watched I can afford.

As I said. With sub and dub it depends which anime it is. There are animes that's better to watch with dub while other animes is better with the sub. 'I'm in love with the villainous' and 'Spy x family' works a little better with dub. Because the voice actors often add extra comedic lines and action. 'Pretty Cure' and other japanese magical girl shows works better with subs because there's often more emotion in the line delivery and dubs can ruin emotional scenes. (Looking at glitter force). Overall I'm in the middle. I love both. And actually often switch between looking at the sub and dub to see how different the scenes are with just different voice actors and language. Well 'Tomo chan is a girl' is an anime where one of the characters have the same voice actor for both the sub and dub. So yeah. For me it depends on the anime if the sub and dub is better.

I can watch anime in either Sub or Dub. Definitely depends on the person and their preferences. Personally, my only problem with Dub animes is if the character’s voice doesn’t match them. I get that voice acting is serious hard work, but I just wish the voice actors were able to put some efforts of their characters their voicing.

For me it really just depends on the day. I prefer watching dubs, but I don't really care if the anime doesn't have a dub at the time. It also gives me an excuse to watch it again when it gets a dub.

Both subbed and dubbed animes can be watched. Look at ouran high school host club, angel beats, wonder egg priority, bloom into you, or literally any studio Ghibli film, anyone of those animes/anime films can watched in either version.

🎭 Sorry I'm late to comment, but I've been out all day. 😅 Small confession: I'm actually not much of an anime watcher. 😬 I have absolutely nothing against it as a media, I guess I simply didn't grow up with it and thus aren't as used to it as other people in my circles. HOWEVER, as a native Spanish speaker, I DO have an opinion for Sub vs Dub for pretty much anything else I watch. 😅 And that opinion is: BOTH ARE PERFECTLY VALID! There is a whole fandom/culture to dubbing, especially in non-speaking countries where most of our entertainment comes in foreign languages and gets translated into our own. I'm actually a huge fan of MANY talented dubbing actors, and I would argue that there are some dubbed movies that sound better in my language than they do in the original. Others, I enjoy way more in English or whatever their original language was. And honestly, I always try to watch shows and movies I like in both versions, and I'm VERY grateful to have both of them available! If you ask me, it just makes things more fun, and people such as myself grately appreciate having the option. 😁

Finally, a sane anime fan who doesn't care about how they watch the anime. I enjoy both. If it's something new that hasn't gotten a dub yet, I'll watch the sub, but if I chance to watch the dub, then I like to watch the dub. Sometimes the dub fits the character more, I watch Bungo Stray Dogs in dub, I don't want to read subtitles while missing the art and action, plus the jokes hit better because it's easier to understand what they're saying because I'm not having to read the joke.

I loved what you had to say about objectivity and subjectivity. I personally don’t think it’s even possible to agree on whether art/entertainment is objectively good or bad because everyone has different standards. It’s usually only once something is exceptionally bad that everyone agrees on its quality. As for subs and dubs, I usually watch dubs unless subs are the only option. It’s not because I think dubs are superior. I just personally think that dubs allow me to take everything in. Plus, I’m a slow reader and end up having to pause subs a lot to read what everyone is saying. I also personally think that there’s one genre in particular that dubs are better for: comedy. Comedy relies so much on timing that, if you’re reading the setup to a joke that gets it payoff visually, you can ruin the punchline if you either read too fast or too slow. But hey, that’s just my opinion.

Yeah, I fully agree Aloubell, since things like this are very subjective and get heated way too quickly. I mean I prefer Glitter Force over the original Smile Precure, but that's because the English voice actors/actresses do a better job in my opinion as they sound like teenage girls. Though Smile Precure is treated like an untouchable gem, even when the characters have the most high pitch voices I've ever heard, making English Marinette and Tikki sound better in comparison. I'm not gonna attack those who like Smile Precure, but I've seen them attack people who like the dub Glitter Force, so I know how obnoxious sub devotees can be.

I prefer to watch things in English, but I can't say it's "better" (since I'm basing it on my understanding of the language, not just performance). Plus in English dubs, you're more likely to hear accents (UK, German, Russian, Indian, etc.) for certain characters.

I am currently going through One piece in dub and I am loving it! Big props to Brooks Voice actor Ian Sinclair. Man has got talent! I know that a lot of people prefer the sub and I understand why. Both are good. Funny thing is I recently went to an anime convention and spoke to a lot of people who didn't care that I watch anime in dub. Heck I was dressed as Vash the stampede from Trigun 1998 and was able to get along with people who prefer the reboot. It was awesome! To be honest, when it comes to what I want, subbed or dubbed, I like to be honest: It really depends on which shows I would want to watch and such and it depends on what voice actors in the dub I do not like which is why I sometimes go to subs sometimes (plus I do like some of the JP voice actors at times). I mean I have my own opinions, but when it comes to certain things, there are people who just look down on me like my opinions are wrong. I am so glad to have found this video and know that no matter what people say, my opinions are my own and nobody can change my mind on them.

As someone who watches more sub than dub. I do enjoy both sub & dub such as for Death Parade, Naruto & MHA. When I got into One Piece last year I watched it in the dub. I have watched both for the show but prefer the dub for One Piece, Naruto, Cowboy Bepop, Black Lagoon & others. I can understand liking the sub bc the voice acting always put a lot of their tone & emotions into it. I have some friends who do prefer dubs over subs due to having a hard time to reading subtitles top & bottom at time so I can understand. I do say there are really good dubs out there too.

This is why the terms "vocal minorities" and "silent majorities" exist. But at the same time those terms can feel very...confusing still. I am a part of the Pokémon fandom who thinks Ash's Pokémon league victory was way too rushed and forced and that the entirety of his and his friends' canon adventure from Gens 1-6 should be completely done over to spite the Ash Haters in the community. Now you could say i am in the vocal minority because of my very spiteful reaction to something that happened in an anime. Rather immature even. But here is the kicker. I say this because the Ash Haters were the same members of the community sent death threats to the pokemon company all because of the artstyle change from XY to sun and moon's anime! I remember this vividly because they had to issue a PR meeting explaining that after XY brought back fans and boosted the ratings they were giving those animators a much needed break after making such cinematic battles the entirety of Gen 6! The sun and moon anime was just a break from the heavier battles and a break for Ash after losing to Alain in gen 6. Hense the artstyle change. They even encouraged fans who were not happy about the change to just drop out for the gen and come back the next one because not much would happen, essentially spoiling the generation for us just to reassure fans that this was a one time downgrade of the art quality. Even having another meeting explaining that they had entire generations worth of ideas where ash's reunited with different combinations of former traveling companions so we could continue their stories. So i was willing to take their advice and just take a break from pokemon as i wasn't particularly happy about the change either but i wasnt going to stoop to sending death threats. Corporate gets the sales data from all of the Gen 7 games...and then tells the writers "MAKE ASH WIN THE LEAGUE OR WE WILL LOSE OUR PRECIOUS MONEY!" and voila the rushed as HECK Mahalo Conference. Heck Journey's, i am heavily suspecting was another desperate attempt at recouping costs from the failures of the Sun and moon, USUM, and Let's go games, by having Goh be the character to promote kids wasting their parent's money in pokemon go! Aside from the name, he doesnt form a connection with 90% of his catches making him the average completionist who leaves the crappy pokemon to rot in the pc. And all those ideas they had for Misty, Brock, Tracey, May, Max, Dawn, Iris, Cilan, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie to be rotated in different combinations to continue their dreams? Sorry they all had off screen success exactly when ash won that league because they don't have time to let ash continue traveling! And i want the fandom to know THAT IS NOT OK! DEATH THREATS GET YOU ON MY SHIT LIST. But then people say they dont remember that at all and i get called a liar for not having evidence which most likely got purged from the internet, but then i try telling myself its the vocal minority messing with me...being a vocal minority or silent majority is confusing!

Yeah, I like subs since I like hearing the OG voices/vocals and have a better time expressing emotions in some cases (And honestly, some people who dub songs sound like they’re squeaky toys that can sing, or don’t go for a 10/10 in energy when the song calls for it, which is when dub can get annoying), but I also like dub since sometimes I want to have whatever I’m watching on in the background while I draw because the story’s kinda dragging on. And then I remember that it’s subbed only. So I have to pay full attention to it instead of doing something like drawing. So this war’s kinda dumb.

I like both but depending on how I feel I ulternate between the two. Though it is important to note thats often times dubs ( Especially of older anime) *CAN* be extremely different from the original, dialouge can either be edited out or completely different, characters would have their personalities completely rewritten, etc. And as someone who visits anime subreddits regularly alot can get lost in translation. That said you shouldn't be disrespectful toward other people who have different preferences

I watched dubs for many reasons, I’m dyslexic and I also like to draw or clean when watching shows if an anime doesn’t have a dub on the streaming service I’m using I won’t watch it

My main problem with dubs is I feel it reinforces people not exposing themselves to / learning other languages. Basically children should be shown subs by default because there is a correlation between greater exposure and greater learning (on country wide scales, so it may be more to do with the wider culture). I also prefer them as it's interesting to experience a foreign language while being able to somewhat understand due to the translation being available.

Something that I don't want to discuss with my roommate(he's also my brother, that he said something about ad lib, &I guess I blocked out the rest, because it made him sound ignorant), is that I think everything should be back and fourth dubbed as an option(that all English movies/shows, audios dubbed over into other languages, if it equals all anime &cartoons can get dubbed into other languages)

The whole sub vs dub argument is completely stupid. I have shows that I absolutely love the dubs of and other shows where I refuse to watch anything but the original Japanese. It honestly just depends on the show/movie, casting, voice direction and the era it was made in. I really only take issue with dubs that completely change and or censor the original material. There’s a reason why Studio Ghibli was so strict about their English dubs. It’s because a company in the 80s completely fucked up Nausica Valley of the Wind with their terrible English dub. Ngl, it depends on what I watched it in first. Nowadays, I prefer sub over dub, but older animes I watched as a kid like death note, Fullmetal alchemist, vampire knight, fruits basket, etc, I prefer those in english. One piece personally, I'm loving in sub jusy because all the voices sound great. I love attack on Titan in both sub and dub because it's well sounding in both. Jojo's bizarre adventure. I listen to subs solely now, but I do appreciate the skill and emotion that went into dubs 🎭

The argument between subs and dubs of anime is like arguing over which translation of the Bible is the best. For me, what matters is that you got the point of what it’s trying to say. You can understand dubs and subs, but one will speak to you more. You can read every translation of the Bible, but you needn’t adhere to one guy’s insistence upon reading the KJV if the NIV, NLT (the Chuck Swindoll Translation) or the ESV (the Alister Begg translation) speak to you more than the one written in ye olde English.

Hey dear Aloubell I like both sub and dub. My favorite animes are : Diabolik lovers, sailor moon, my happy marriage, black butler, pretty cure , oshi no ko. So when it comes to oshi no ko : i like the both the Japanese and also the English version. Although I wished they would also covered the song in English 😢 like I love the song : Star t🌟rain and I wish they were English version of it, yeah there are covers in English on KZfaq but... Still When it comes to Diabolik lovers : Most people don't like Yuis English voice and even though I prefer her Japanese voice I like her English voice. Especially in episode 4, she slayed in that episode in both languages. But the episode hits different in English. Laito (my crush ❤🤭😍) his voice is so beautiful, and his flirting is in both languages cute. But I once again prefer the English version, not just because of the way Blake Shepard is voicing him, but also he calls Yui in season two baby and I find it so cute 😍🤣 he sadly doesn't do that in the Japanese version. I watch dub anime too, mostly because it's so annoying to watch a show and read the subtitles at the same time. If you're busy doing something, you can still listen to it in English. I will always love dub anime and no one can change that. One of my favorite Dubbed anime shows is Attack on Titan and Black Clover.

I think both have their pros and cons. Subs are good because you can use them to learn Japanese. Also they are the original intended way to enjoy the anime, but dubs are enjoyable because you don't have to focus on the screen constantly to understand what's going on, and you can have a different interpretation with English voices you enjoy. As a precure fan, I've definitely come around to subs, but I enjoy both and don't think people should be putting others down for their preference

In my opinion, I find dub to be the best thing I have ever experienced in watching either anime or international live-action movies. It's because of English Dub I am able to learn and improve my skills in the English language. My most favourite films in English dub would be the Donnie Yen's Ip Man film collections, especially when Ip Man's dub voice actor perform his role in English speaking.

Hmm, I honestly feel like this topic is very controversial because.. there are no right or wrong answers (especially for politics but I won't get into that). I mean, people have their own personal opinion whether it's the anime series, the culture, or anything. As long as they respect their thoughts, then it's okay. For me personally, I usually went for sub when I was young and always thought that dub is terrible. But now as I got older, it's a tie for me because both of them are good in their own ways and have no explanation. Also, I think you list out very good examples and I like to add that even people compared the Original vs Reboots anime even though it's good in their own ways. I can't say which one is better unless you watched both versions. I think as long as you enjoy the shows, then good for you. If you don't like how the reboots/remake was made, then that's okay, and move on. The same thing with Dub. You are allow to have opinion, that's all.

Honestly I have likes and my strong dislikes of both. I was never one to choose one over the other. And really it depends on the show.

I’ve watched anime dubbed and then I started watching anime subbed, my first anime was Sailor Moon dubbed by DIC favorite anime would rent the movies from the video store, but when I watched it subbed years later I realized the dubbed version censored stuff like the relationship between Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune in the dubbed they’re cousins,but in actuality they’re lovers . This is why I think subbed is better because dubbed they might change characters or leave things out and I mean dubbed in English and most people when they mean dubbed do mean English dubbed. I have nothing against dubs(non anime) in and of itself, I mean I watched the entire 2005 Chronicles of Narnia on Disney plus dubbed in Korean with subtitles .

I watch both but I do default to the dub unless it's live action the lip sync always bother me if its dub. As manga reader my favorite voice is usually the one I imagined for the character. If I really like the anime I will watch both the sub and dub so I can have a different experience reliving the same story.

I'm mainly a sub girl these days, but I don't mind the dub as long it's done well (like with OHSHC and Free!). Some just do better in sub than dub and vice versa, and it's fine. As long as people do enjoy the anime, then there's no issue.

I usually love sub. But more likely I’ll watch dub. This is because unfortunately in some original aka subbed anime’s or shows they have very icky or suggestive humor. So I usually stick to dubs since they have that sort of humor cut out from the episodes. With miraculous. There is one sub I refuse to watch. And that’s gloob’s version. They can’t voice act well which is very frustrating. Which is why I never give it credit. It’s that bad! When watching miraculous. I’ll watch the English dub. While the French version is great. Plagg’s french dub voice hurts my ears. A lot. So I usually will watch English dub since in my opinion. Plagg’s voice sounds much more natural there.😅😊

I mostly watch dubs mainly because dyslexic.

Sub vs Dub is kinda dumb coz in the end everyone is watching the same thing but in different languages. And as a person who watches anime in different languages depending which one is released first.Sometimes I watch the first episodes or seasons in dub but if there’s more episodes in sub since when a new season of an anime is released episodes in sub are typically released first before other languages then I just go from watching dub to sub in the middle of the season. But there are times I would prefer to watch anime fully in dub like Attack on Titan, Mob Psycho 100 or anime that finished airing coz I normally find the dub version first and I’m just so used to the dub I just don’t feel like switching sub(and yes I’m waiting for the final part of Attack on Titan dub release coz like I said before I just so used to the dub ver.). But the are times I would only watch anime in sub because of the same reason for dub. Also can people just stop saying that dub is the English version coz there are people who miss understands the meaning of the word dub coz dub is not just English it is also other languages that are considered a dub in their own right like the Spanish dub for example. @The_Artistic_Aloubell first its ok to just have both, as many people just dont have the energy or health conditions to read fast or small text and the reverse. dub and sub should be additional an bonus together, not exclusive of one another. but. you forget that objective its still managable to come near the original instead of cutting corners because "it cant be 100% correct" as today many translators use an excuse. regardless of sub or dub if the translators and other memebers to the show not respect the source and try their best to deliver the most original version of the original, the customer is scammed. ya cant have a diverse world and an "correct" statement like "every show NEEDS to reflect everybody" but on the other hand change anime to suit westerns instead of let it be art and enjoy the cultural or opinional different delivery of storys. anime, what many forget, is not just entertainement but art that has the right to be experienced like any other art. is mona lisa racist because it only depicts a smiling woman and misses out transgender, black, chinese, and whatever else? no? when why critize animes for it. animes are not real, they are art and have the right to be different from reality as the makers are not perfect and often their work are heavily influenced by the makers abilities and experiences. instead of hating animes tropes, cliches, backgrounds, etc. just accept it as an imperfect art and inspire the present and future to do their own "better" animes, games, whatever. changing names, interactions, etc. because the audience could be offensed is censoring and the people who only watch the original because it got butchered to please them should not be the target audience in the beginning. its like redraw art hanging in museums because the audience lack the knowledge or appreciation for unclear arts, so the present generation make the arts "more acceptable for wider audiences". and rightfully you would call such people crazy. but if its done to animes so many defend this crazy actions.
