Lifesaver. My friend just came over with her Outback. Same exact thing and code. Her gas cap was not tightened. She’s very happy thanks to this video.

All the major manufacturers are doing this now where a simple check engine light also includes just about every other light to come on. Auto manufacturers know that people often ignore check engine lights so now they have started this nonsense. From what I understand all these other systems lights aren’t just idle threats, those systems are actually temporarily disabled. It blows my mind to think a loose gas cap should cause all of this trouble LOL! I’ve experienced this same problem 1st hand in an Acura TL I once owned. I’ve long since gotten rid of that car and now I drive a 2015 Outback 3.6r and I love it!

The same code popped up on my 2016 Subaru Outback, so I went to KZfaq and found this video. The exact same thing happened; my wife forgot to tighten the gas tank cap. Thank you for sharing this video I’m glad I watched it before going to a mechanic.

This may not completely eliminate the problem. Only a full drive cycle will determine whether the code comes back. This is a good first step to see if the code can be cleared.

All automakers do things like that now. Systems like traction control, stability control, intelligent cruise control, and other systems rely on the engine functioning properly. If your engine stalled out but EyeSight continued to try and work you might find that the auto emergency braking didn’t work so well without the power bakes working. Without the engine the alternator isn’t charging the battery anymore and sophisticated computer systems don’t work properly on low voltage. Companies don’t want a lawsuit because someone’s car was running poorly and the engine stalled and the EyeSight system failed to stop their car from hitting the car in front of them because the power brakes weren’t working or the EyeSight system was too low on voltage to detect the car in front.

My ScanGauge is on it's last leg and I need a new one. None of the buttons nor the backlighting works.

2005 subaru outback check engine light constantly on with a flashing cruise control light. Mechanic couldn’t figure out issue. Had it going for over a year but now I need to pass my emissions test & any check engine light is automatic fail. All searches on this make it seem like the gas cap is issue but of course my gas cap has been on and off (to get gas) and tightened & retightened for over a year & hasn’t made a difference. Anything else I can do? Need to pass that test

They're surprisingly cheap if you just want to be able to read and clear codes. Like sub $50

Need help! Have all same eye site error display but NOT check engine light. Been happening for over 2 weeks intermittently on 2017 Subaru Outback 3.6i with only 27000 mile. It happens every time we drive ..ll turn off entering then resets until turns on again. Very frustrating. Have checked gas cap, cleaned eye site lenses, nothing helps!!! Any suggestions??

I don't think you're supposed to clean the eyesight lens. It has a warning on the side saying not to.

@@bruceyyyyy yes and agree and didn’t actually “clean”, basically took soft cloth and passed gently over area…thx for comment.

A little CReader 3001. Around twenty bucks. I also have a scan gauge but it's not as helpful these days. Over 13 years old now.

Someone offered me that device to read the code when they saw me struggling in the parking lot. I came home and found this video and the gas cap was indeed loose. That’s fixed but I don’t have a way to clear the code now. Any other ways to clear without the machine?

You can stop by an auto zone, advance auto, on Reilly, etc and they will loan you one for free.
