Subaru Tribeca Display Dim

In this video we take a look at the Dim Multi-Function Display in my 2009 Subaru Tribeca. We take a look into how easy it is to get to and remove the display as well as reinstall. I also show some parts of the backlight repair attempt that I originally intended to share here and in the end just had to get a used replacement . Mine ended up having an issue in the LCD Display panel and a new one seems to be unavailable. Hope you find this video informational and helpful. Thanks for watching.

Sunlight dims my display to almost nothing so I just made a shade for the display out of a piece of black poster board. Works like a charm.

The reason why the screen is flickering on camera is because of the shutter speed. The camera is not the same as the camera itself but it is still a bit more powerful than the screen.

Absolutely. I simply used my phone for that part and not my nicer Lumix that I use on the bench. I did not try to adjust. Thanks for your helpful comment!

I have a 2006. My display like yours has missing characters and very low lights. My a/c, seat heat and other console buttons are flashing. Someone told me to check illumination power. I’ve been reviewing the wiring diagrams, added canbus decoders on my led headlights, checked my headlight relays and fuses…The A/C, radio and all console work, just seems to be triggered turning power on to A/C.

Interesting. Have you disconnected the can bus decoder and new headlights just to see if they are causing some strange issue or was it already present before that install?

Hi. Thanks for the video. My 2009 Subaru Tribeca has the same issue. I would like to replace the LCD but new the entire display system is about $900. Where did you buy your replacement LCD? My concern is that if I buy it used, it may have the same issue as my current one. Would appreciate your help, thanks

I had to buy it from either a junk yard or from eBay and yes, it's possible it has issue as well. I was trying to make sure it was on a wrecked vehicle so hopefully all was functional before it was removed. A gamble for sure, but not going to consider a new one. Best of luck to ya!

I ended up replacing the display but am still having the same flickering issue even with the switched out display. Another issue I noticed are Err signs where the out. Temp and range is on the MFD. Any ideas? @@ThriftyToolShed

If this is a used display you will most likely have to resolder the solder joints on the back of the board. I had to do that to both of mine. It was the problem for sure on my used replacement. I was getting Err for temp and sometimes for the range as well. The solder joints were dark gray and cracked. I added some flux and fresh solder to clean the joints and make them shine like new. I can share a quick video on this since I did video most of it just never did get around to editing and uploading it. This is the only issue I have had with the used one that I bought and installed.
