someone on twitter pointed out that if he had gone to connor’s wedding he could’ve died surrounded by his family, the people who-for better or worse-actually do love him. instead he died on the toilet, alone. anyway, such an incredibly well-written and well-acted episode. the variety in the expressions of grief felt so real. kudos to everyone in the episode, hope this goes in their emmy reels

Kendall refused to forgive him. Roman went into denial. Shiv hoped it was her mother. Connor outright admitted he knew his dad didn’t like him. All their responses to Logan dying fit so perfectly with their characters. Well done. A brilliant episode of television.

The way they portrayed his death was so raw and so real, it hurt so bad to watch this but holy shit everybody on this show deserves all of the accolades for this episode. Editing to add that when my mom passed, I reacted exactly how Roman did. I could not believe it and would not believe it. They portrayed the way people grieve differently so beautifully.

Ken saying all of that sentiment, then to say "I can't forgive you" was heart wrenching. Even in death, his abuse still lives on in his children and it's just so tragic. But also, for a man as horrible and abusive as he was, and a also as powerful as he was, dying on alone on the toilet of a plane was so fitting. Thank you Brian Cox

I had a parent who was oddly similar to Logan, I could tell towards the end she tried to say sorry, like Logan, but neither quite could, as it was irreparable. When she died.. well, the show did a great job of it. Like some of the kids said, “there’s no excuse, but I love you”

One of the most shocking episodes of TV I've seen, the way he dies so unexpectedly out of the blue is exactly how it feels in real life when someone near you dies. That mix of shock and denial before you truly realize it's real.. Insanely well acted and written, they nailed the way it feels losing family. I just didn't see it coming at all, did anyone actually think he would die? He's a bastard but I'm gonna miss his presence-

incredible episode of TV. They did something very powerful in capturing how a death in the family feels in the real world. No death scene, no final parting convo, he's just... gone. And you have to struggle to process and accept it and figure out where to go from there.

I think Kendall´s handled it better for multiple reasons: 1. He kinda already had to navigate a similar situation at s01. 2. He is probably the one that the word "estranged" actually was not far away. Realistically Logan and Kendall had alsmot no contact since s02 ending. 3. And for me the main one - Kendall was the one always the most berated for showing positive emotions towards his father. As you mentioned from episode 1, he was basically punished for picking his dad over business. Repeated punishments for certain behaviour will make you less likely to repeat the behavior. He was trained to focus on business in emergency situations. I think at this point I d rather be scared for him once emergency dies down, coz I think he is the type of a griever who prefers to be busy, and pushes his issues away till they blow up (just like end of s03 his breakdown over killing the kid). I dont think he knows how to emotionally process stuff, and as a result...he doesnt. Thats why we often see him be controlled by his emotions once he is "winning" coz there is no emergency, nothing to really focus on coz its no longer life/death ..and that is when his issues creep up on him. But that is just my read on Kendall, which could be totally wrong.

I think if they were going to kill off Logan at all, this was the way to do it. Rather than leading up to a series finale or a penultimate episode, it just happens seemingly randomly on the third episode of the season. And with no warning signs, he was just acting normal during the episode intro. It really is how death can be. With no fanfare or build up, and you have to deal with it wherever you are. It felt super realistic to me.

Interestingly, Roman was the only sibling to not bring up their grudge against Logan in his final minutes on Earth. Also, since Roman has always been the quick-quip sibling, he literally struggles to come up with the correct words to say, probably because he's so used to using humor as a vice, and now is the one time he has to be 100% serious....he had to step up to the plate, and wasn't ready. This show is masterful at characterization.

1:42 Tom and his "Greglings"... Honestly, everything before the big drop was very light hearted, which made the curveball seem like it was totally from nowhere. 3:39 Gerri was way too smart to have a spineless Roman be sent to deliver the blow with the headsman's axe. 6:10 once they showed that CPR being administered...it was no longer lighthearted... 6:57 No one expects that the monster that destroys cities and eats whole armies, will just die one day. I was honestly very pissed that they never even gave Conner a second thought. But Conner didnt seemed surprised either. 9:09 I really felt so bad for Conner, who is an idiot and potentially a monster of a politician if he had the chance, but dude knew his dad didnt really like him that much... 10:05 Kerry just saw her plans of riches and wealth die on the floor. 11:18 Greg had his dirty, dirty plans blocked by a mean old man who hated him die. Also, the actor is allegedly a real prick. 15:00 when my own dad died, I had to drive a couple of hours to where I grew up, so I missed a lot of what happened and I didnt see him until the morning of the funeral. It was the hardest thing I have had to do, walking up to the casket to see this man, who had suffered from PTSD most of my childhood and made my life miserable to the point I left as quick as I could (he got help later on and had said he was sorry a lot before he got sick), laying there, an empty shell. I understand both sides of what happened with kendall and shiv vs. roman in needing/wanting to see.

Jimmy, I love your reaction and review. I agree wholeheartedly with your character assessments in this episode. One exception is that I never considered Logan the single "main character", but I concede he certainly was the gravitational force for each of the major character's arcs. I agree with you that Kendall is the emotional core of the series and you could say the protagonist. I say this because Kendall's story is a modern and unconventional take on the oedipal myth and similar primal tales centered on the mortal contest between the powerful father and the as yet unproven/untested son. Kendall is more fatally flawed than the usual protagonist in this archetypal role, thus the compelling nature of Jeremy Strong's unique performance.

I feel like Logan earmarked Roman, Roman is the only one he keeps giving another chance to like when Kendall or Shiv disappoint him it’s over but Roman has proven to Logan or Logan has sided with Roman over both Kendall and Shiv respectively for example gutting Vaulter or selecting the Republicans presidential candidate.
@nyeishaclark95
@nyeishaclark95 Жыл бұрын
Well in both of those situations, Logan was pissed at Kendall and Shiv and I think he did it more to hurt them then to side with Roman, like with Vaulter, he knew how much Kendall believed in that and he knew how gutted he would be if they cut it, and then to make matters worse he MADE Ken do the cutting even though it was Roman's idea, clear example of him just getting under Ken's skin, also with Shiv ,Logan knew that the candidate went against everything Shiv believed and respected in regarding politics so he purposely went with him to screw with her and to make matters worse he MADE her take the picture with them so that it would look like she supported it as well and to the public eye she would look like a hypocrite. He also just did something similar to Roman in this very episode when he told Roman to fire Gerri, he was still pissed at Roman for siding with Ken and Shiv for so long and he wanted to hurt him, even though he knew Roman was close to Gerri. This is just how Logan punishes his kids.
@shahriachowdhury9552
@shahriachowdhury9552 Жыл бұрын
@@nyeishaclark95 I see why you would think he did it to just screw with them but I think that was more just collateral, in both cases, Ken and Shiv have different views to ultimately what Logan wants. The presidential candidacy is very easy to see as Shiv is against all of the policies like she thinks he is dangerous etc but the candidate actually has everything that a news outlet would want; sensationalism, exciting, spicy news! The candidate was perfect for Logan and Ken was so attached to Vaulter because it was his baby project but Logan eventually got him to find out that they were overspending and doing very little productive work hence why they harvested the profitable areas. It all comes down to business, Roman and Logan think more alike; Shiv and Kendall have different points of view from Logan on some aspects and they get punished for it.
@nyeishaclark95
@nyeishaclark95 Жыл бұрын
@@shahriachowdhury9552 I still think it was more to hurt them because realistically, Logan could have made anyone president and he also didn’t care about any of the candidates until Roman said him and then Shiv had an outburst about how horrible he was and THEN Logan became interested. With Kendall as well it didn’t matter to him either way if they kept Vaulter or not, he would have prevailed either way but I think in seeing how much Kendall loved it and fought so hard for it, it made him want to cut it even more. Also Roman has good senses yes but also some pretty bad ones, let’s not forget the rocket launch, lol. I think Logan sees the same amount of potential in Roman that he sees in Shiv and Kendall, NONE of his kid’s particularly stand out to him, they all have their strengths and weaknesses to him. I think he appreciates certain aspects of Roman but when it comes down to it he wouldn’t trust him with the company, he doesn’t take any of his kids seriously, he never has, Roman is just the easiest one to manipulate back into the fold.

@@nyeishaclark95 I agree that he doesn't trust any of them fully, and Roman definitely has the flaws that cause Logan to doubt him but of the three, they've all been manipulated by Logan but I don't see it as Roman being the easiest as he actually had ideas of cutting off and doing his own things... Roman always seems to have had his dad's perspective so Logan could have been thinking to mold him into what he needed him to be is what I am thinking.

@@shahriachowdhury9552 I don't personally believe so, I don't think Logan would choose any of his kids to lead actually, he just likes to dangle the possibility of taking over in front of them and making them fight each other over it, but never fully giving it to any one of them. I agree that Roman is smart, they actually all are when given the chance, I mean we have seen Kendall shine plenty of times to know he can do it as well, I don't disbelieve in Roman's abilities or any of theirs, but I disbelieve in Logan's belief in Roman's or any of his children's abilities. I don't think he puts stock in any of his kids which is why it's also so easy for them to fail in his eyes.

yo Macram love the reactions. Just wanted to say that Brian Cox wanted to keep playing the character, this was purely a decision of the show to give time to focus on what happens after their father dies.

beside the tone of the ep, I love how disruptive Kerry reaction was, because, at last, I felt very identified with her about all the things that were going on last night

Outstanding! But HBo has had some stellar, breathtaking, & heartbreaking death/fallout scenes in their programs. This feels so real!

Brilliant reaction video. My understanding is that this season is an episode a day... Ep01 was Day 01, Ep02 Day 02 etc... So I reckon it's going to end with the funeral and reading of the will on Day 10

My guess they killed him off, otherwise it would be repetitious. In prior episode it already had a smell of repetitious once Logan met Rom.

It's not that the theme isn't good. It's just way WAY overplayed.
