If she wasnt so dense and had pulled her head out of her own ass then she would've gotten the hint that hes playing her

Everybody, especially the men, play Shiv, which is the reason why she uses the shiv when they don't see it coming. You know the saying --- when you are a woman, you go with the best offer. Also, Shiv made a cartoon of her puppetering Mattson but Mattson took it like a champ, not taking it too personal. Mattson even said that he felt intimidated by Shiv to Tom as Shiv kept using her "Pick Me, Pick Me" energy and she doesn't exactly tell him what is she doing during the company. Meanwhile, Tom told Mattson about his works and also used his humility to impress Mattson even Tom willingly being the pain spinge because he's getting used of Shiv's treatment to him as she sees him as her lapdog.

Also, looking back at the conversations between them and Mecken in Logan's house again, Mecken and Mattson agreed that they want American CEO but they don't specifically telling the gender of the CEO and Shiv thought it's her. When people thought of American CEO, their first thought must be a male and both of Mecken and Mattson realized that Shiv is totally clueless and out of place for being there, even their conversations are deeper with politic and also but Shiv constantly making weird allegory and jokes in front of a freaking president. Disagree on the Shiv part to be honest as out of the three I think she's by a good margin the smartest and most down to earth of the Roy children. Her crippling fault lies in the fact she lets her feelings about how things "should" be influence her moves. She feels she should have been included in the business from the beginning and therefore shouldn't have to do the management training. In part she's right, it's almost certainly because Logan was sexist and wanted his son to take over not his daughter, that still doesn't change the fact she had little to no experience of the day to day opperations. Her father promised her CEO and so she thinks from that point on she "should" be CEO no matter what, because he promised. She torpedo'd her political career for this and therefore she can't face the fact she, just like her brothers before her, got played by Logan. Ultimately Shiv's emotional damage makes her act extremely entittled when she believes she's in the right, and that leads to her getting played. I think her actual intelligence is still leagues ahead of Roman and a fair bit ahead of Ken.

When Mattson told him that his life is "boring", Logan noted that Mattson has accomplished everything from young age. Kendall is almost close to Logan's criteria but every time there's a chance, he's always blew it up with insecurity, childish behaviour and also arrogance.
