Sudan is in the midst of a gold rush and is now the second-largest producer of gold in Africa and the ninth in the world. Gold production is driven by unregulated, artisanal miners: over 1.5 million men who put their lives at risk to dig and extract the precious metal. Much to their dismay, meanwhile, the government in Khartoum is pushing to attract foreign investors and more industrialised methods. Our correspondent reports.

Sudan Government should protect also the small scale miners..why after digging the mines up should another foreign miner come and exploit them..

Exactly. The government leveraged foreign investment to gain revenue but the miners don’t see any of that. Foreign workers should have to partner with local miners so at least they are employed
