This is akin to the opportunity to hear Bach or Mozart speak about music and composition.

This interview was done in that year 2007 because they spoke about that song Eva and it is song form the album dark passion play wich was released that year. The same album where the poet and the pendulum is.

Tuomas is so genuine humble person I try to be every day. Every time I listen to The Poet And The Pendulum...I cry. I don't know why. Maybe for mistakes I have done past in my life and sure I want to be better person every day. I want to say thank you Tuomas and thank you all reactors giving respect to our modern day metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen. It is about a week from now on that I will be in Nightwish concert Vaasa, Finland. I can assure you that I will enjoy that trip. Peace 🤘

I agree completely with you, Thomas said in principle that you do not want to return to that period, but the interviewer will return to it via a detour, he does so very malupilatively, you can see that Thomass wants to remain nice, but he is annoyed radiates, wants to hear the information. but it's great that you took this one because even I had never seen or heard it from this interview. Thank you Suesue for that and I agree with you completely. go well and see juliie laterrr. Greetings Jan ❤❤😊

This backstage information is vital to understand this band....specially cause Tuomas is at the back in purpose. He has defined NW to be female fronted as it is but all the fans do know the brains behind.

Hi Sue,good for you ,to do this dive in to some of the history of Nightwish and especcially Tuomas. I can understand ,a little, the aversion against the interviewer,he is Dutch ,there is a little language barrier also,at least as a Dutch guy i feel/hear that. He is/was considered ,by a lot of artist more as a psychologist, wich ofcourse, not all of the artist apreciate😅,but in a way he gets the "job"done in the sence that he get some real answers on some topics and don't forget,Dutch people are very direct in their aproach. Hope you gonna enjoy "Poët and the Pendulum". Greetings from a Dutch guy living in Spain.😉🤘

9:38 If I remember correctly, in one of the interviews Tuomas mentioned that he didn't consider Floor's candidacy because she was then in After Forever and wasn't going to leave the band. Floor has never been an operatic singer, she can do it, but it's not her strongest side.

To me it sounds like the guy doing the interview is not professionally trained as an interviewer, hence the somewhat awkward and less than fluent style of questioning. However, despite of this Tuomas gave some interesting answers, which on the whole made for quite a nice little insight into his thought process, and also his ways of going about his work as a songwriter, composer and arranger. The Poet And The Pendulum is a very deep and moving song, for which preparation might indeed be advisable in order to better understand it. I agree with all you said about him being a genius, and how it affects such a person's way of connecting with the outside world.

Don’t apologize for your protective instincts. I agree on the interviewer, and it’s a common thing. There have been a lot of interviews with Tuomas with poor questioning.

in 2006 and 2007 they knew Floor, but also knew she was commited to After Forever. I think Floor would have declined the offer!

Not to defend the interviewer but just to explain something. You can tell from his accent that he is Dutch. The Dutch are known to be very (!!) straight forward. They don't beat around the bush. This is often interpreted as rude although it is not ment to be, The anglo saxon way of communicating is much more veiled and aimed at not putting people off. A Dutch person will usually have to do a lot of translating in his head while talking to an Englishman for instance. "Your proposal sounds very good" does not mean that your proposal has been received as very good. No the Englishman says well it sounds ok let me think about it. "I will get back to you" will have a Dutch person eagerly awaiting a telephone call that is never going to come etc. If you say to a Dutch person "we should get together over drinks" - meaning it was nice to meet you maybe we'll meet again in the future"- you should fully expect him or her to whip out his or her diary and say "is Saturday afternoon at three at the beach club ok for you?". EDIT People from the Nordic countries tend to understand the Dutch way of doing things a bit better than people from more southern countries.

Yeah, this intetviewer is insensitive...but thats his job. Unfortunately, some of the same shit Tarja pulled, Anette ended up also doing. I still enjoy her contributions to the band, but man, she had the world on a plate and she effed up.

14:57 and 20:36 Hector, a Finnish singer-songwriter, says in one of his songs: "Lauluja syntyy kun VITUTTAA" = Songs are born when you're PISSED OFF. Vituttaa = Finnish national emotion, lol. (To me the Finnish version sounds more vulgar. It refers to female genitalia, even though you do not think about it that way when you are using the word as a swear word.) I think it's true. When your pissed off there are no filters, you let the music come as it comes, you say the ugly word in the lyrics like it is. If you are really pissed off why could you not express it by swearing? If you hurt yourself you do not feel the pain as much if you swear, there are scientific studies confirming this. The chairwoman of a Finnish political party used the V-word - "I'm pissed off like a little animal!" - when her party lost the election two months ago. There was a lively discussion if it was acceptable or not. Swearing is not as big a deal in Finland as it is in The US. Sometimes people swear on TV and it is aired, no cencorship, no beeps like in The US. Same thing with music on the radio. There used to be a "black list" of songs on YLE, The Finnish Broadcasting Company. No songs were totally banned, descression advised I think. I guess you could say the recommendation was, do not play these. A few months ago a female linguist defended swearing. Some people thought it was an outrage.
