Ian Nepomniachtchi played a fantastic tournament at the Levitov chess week scoring 12.5/18 and winning the event ahead of all the rivals by a margin of 2 points. After the event ended, we asked Ian for an interview and he graciously agreed. This interview was conducted on the lawns of Waldorf Astoria which is a UNESCO Heritage site. Ian speaks about the Levitov Chess Week, Playing online at the AI Cup, his World Championship match with Ding Liren, upcoming Candidates and much more.

Honestly I would have loved if Ian has succeeded Magnus as the world champion. As Magnus said Ian's peak form chess ability is probably one of the highest. Winning candidates twice in a row speaks for itself. Maybe third time is the charm?

I felt bad... like awfully bad when I saw Nepo came to realisation of his position was completely hopeless. His hand was shaking he looked broken and Tired. He won candidates 2 times in a row which just goes to show how much he wants to win. Good Luck to him for the future

Yes, I spit my food out when he didn’t force a draw earlier in the last game, I knew his position was l dangerous in the long run

I used to think Nepo was quite stuck up and egoistic but this interview has changed my opinion on him considerably. Wish the guy all the best!
