My grandma used to make this for us kids around Christmas time. It was always an occasional treat so rare that I often forgot all about it. But I recently realized it couldn’t be too hard to make it myself, and since my wife has a dairy allergy, I wanted to make a dairy-free version for her. I'm not sure how many chocolate chips are in a regular bag, but that's how many I use. I am making some right now and I wanted to make sure I was doing everything right so I watch the video. I am adding red and green m&Ms and extra thin pretzel sticks and calling it reindeer chow!

Another easy way to coat the cereal with powered sugar is to fill a new grocery paper bag with the powdered suger then dump in the chocolate covered chex mix. Give the bag some good shakes & it's done! Also a fun way for the kids to join in & help😊 a little less messy. Thanks for the recipe! Great video!

I’ve been making this for almost 30 years. Paper bag is the easiest way to coat with the powdered sugar. Also Crispex cereal is shaped like puppy chow dog food and is more authentic looking, as it’s more expensive I quit using it. I sometimes serve it in a clean, new doggie dish for fun. Fixing to make some today for my nieces birthday. I’ve been making it for her for 15 years for her birthday present.

But after seeing for myself the amount of powered sugar I had to use, these are def a once in a blue moon, kind of treat lol when i tried them when I first made them I could feel my blood sugar rise lol

I tried this recipe twice and it was great at first, but both times I noticed it had a bit of a chewy texture after about a day, almost like it was stale even though all of the ingredients were newly purchased. I saw a post somewhere saying it might be the water content in the butter causing that (I was using Country Crock brand, other brands may vary). I tried it a 3rd time using clarified butter (which has no water) and it fixed the issue. 3 days on and it's still crispy. So if anyone else encounters the same problem, give that a try.

Just fyi, I used weight to measure the ingredients & the peanut butter is about 180 grams for 3/4 cup (you have 210 in your description). I’m not sure why there’s a discrepancy, maybe some PB’s are more dense than others, but I was just curious where that came from or if anyone else noticed/had any issues. I’m in the middle of making these now & I’m going with 180g of PB.
