This movie wasn't trying to be Deadpool, it was trying to be Guardians of the Galaxy. That's probably why they tried to make the characters act like they're all close to each other despite barely even knowing each other: One of Guardians' main themes is "found family." It also explains all of the licensed music.

I don't know if anyone has pointed this out but I'm pretty sure the reason that there's so much licensed music in this movie is because whoever did the soundtrack saw Guardians of the Galaxy and didn't realize that the music was being used in a meaningful way. It's like they just heard a bunch of the hit songs and were like "Oh, shit! This movie is good because of all the sick tunes bro".

I love how Killer Croc, notorious for being like 12 feet tall or something, is as tall as will smith.

Another funny thing is that the Enchantress's brother is called "Incubus" ... which is the male equivalent of the succubus. He's a sex demon, but there's literally nothing about his character that plays into that so something tells me whoever named him that didn't even know what they were doing 😭

I think THE Suicide Squad did an amazing job with giving an excuse for Harley's inclusion, she was on the team that was supposed to die, but she ended up being one of the biggest assets to the real team once she was rescued

The best part about the licensed music is that they put out an entire album of original songs with big artists to support the movie, and none of them are used outside the credits

HQ being upset that he killed innocent kids was actually one of the good parts for her character. That's how she is to a weird degree. She's midfight with Black Canary when she realizes she is preggers and literally will not fight. She's twisted from her old non-insane self but loves kids still and wants them to be safe. I'm betting that line is left over from the good drama we did not get.

My favorite idiotic decision of this movie is that the whole point of the suicide squad was to have a team of shady people you could use to do shady business and don't be blamed for it, and what's their first mission? Saving the world from the blue laser in the sky

I don't even think they played "Spirit in the Sky" because they were in the sky. I think they played it because the team was finally all together and someone at WB clearly wanted audiences to treat this movie like it was Guardians of the Galaxy. That was the moment that broke me. I mentally checked out the last 10% of my brain that was somehow managing to hold on.

The best rebuke to the way Harley was so objectified in this movie is that literally the first words out of her mouth in The Suicide Squad are her announcing that she just took a dump.

So if this continuity's Batman is willing to kill, why is this Joker still alive?

I hate this movie, but you know what I hate most? Is that Batman wouldn't have never approached Deadshot in a alley with his daughter. Because Bruce Wayne's parents died in a alley while he watched.

my favourite things about this movie are a) killer croc's actor can't movie in his prosthetics, but they try to make him do push ups, so if you pay attention he's just kneeling down and bobbing his head up and down, and b) when rick flagg is given an ID badge to wear, he pins it to the cuff of his t-shirt sleeve instead of the neck of his shirt or his front pocket, a thing no human has ever done. It's such a small thing, but it's so jarringly weird when you notice it.

I am still distraught over how little Katana is used, and her just blatantly being the "hot Asian character that knows asain fight style." She is one of my favorite DC characters and they made her the lapdog of some dude.

This is why I consider Suicide Squad to not only be the worst superhero movie I've seen, but the worst movie overall. Movies like "The Room" or "Catwoman" at least makes you laugh over how comically bad they are, Suicide Squad however is both incompetent AND boring which is the worst thing a movie can be.

Hey, at least they didn’t use “Crocodile Rock” for Killer Croc. It’s so on the nose, tonaly inconsistent and ridiculously bad of a choice that I’m surprised it DIDNT happen honestly.

The one licensed song that always pisses me off the most in the character intros here is "Fortunate Son" by CCR. If you're gonna do a CCR song for your crocodile man, "BORN ON THE BAYOU" IS RIGHT THERE like how do you make these decisions and feel good about your work

I normally don't care for overly negative critique, but your all of these notes are spot on. It is really hard to find any positives. I remember seeing it in the theaters and on the fist shot having unreadable text and the title being poorly revealed, not very readable, and on screen way to short of a time. That was the first shot, and one of the more important shots in the movie, and they edited it like they had never seen a opening title before in there life. How many people in the production saw this shot and said "yea, that will work." And it never got any better. I used raz the Transformers franchise as the most poorly written and edited block busters of a generation, but this is another level.

the suicide squad’s “friendship” is basically that flimsy camaraderie you build with the other 6 people you don’t know on a college field trip. like that “i’ll keep you from getting hit by a car on main street but i’m not putting in enough effort to get your phone number once we’re back on campus” vibe. flag is the prof youve only ever waved to in the hallway who is now in charge of keeping you from getting lost

With the leaked image of Joker getting angry at Harley in the helicopter, that scene of her looking dejected on the car, and the deleted/unused footage of Joker with a burnt face dropping a grenade from the finale, I 100% agree with Marcus’ hypothesis that they just broke up in the original script.

Also a flaw with the suicide idea is that it would be better if they just hired actual hero’s who A) are stronger because they have defeated the villains already And B) they would turn on each other or retreat and they are just more trust worthy

I remember seeing this with a bunch of my friends in high school because one of them was able to get early tickets through connections from his parents or something. I think I wanted to like it so badly that I made myself ignore everything I didn’t like about it, so I thought it was great after it was over. About a week later I stopped lying to myself and admitted it was pretty bad.

I NEED to see a movie with a soundtrack that plays rap whenever a black character is on screen, mariachi when it's a mexican, dudebro country (or at least boomer rock) for white guys, and kpop with asians. Also if it's a female character the vocalists must be female. They ideally should be singing about being a woman, or at least mention that they are. Anything else leaves me confused and is simply not worth my time or money. Get on this, hollywood, it's a gold mine waiting.

The portrayal of Harley Quinn in the remake is more accurate with combat in my opinion. Sure she’s “just a girl” but she’s insanely well rounded, which is why I think she’s on par with the other characters. But in the first version she’s just kinda “sex appeal” Quinn instead of “roller derby neck snapping” Quinn.

This and the Avatar TLA movie are the cinematic equivalent of “Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing”

You know what would improve this movie? Swapping the Enchantress going nuts scene with the assembling the team scene. Her and her Brother start rampaging, the Superheroes either can't be found or are busy with other threats. Turn to this theorised suicide squad as the only option. They don't have time to be discerning because of the urgency, so they literally grab every jailed villain they can find and turn them loose on Enchantress.

In this movie Harley is characterised solely as "She's hot as balls and cRrRrRAAAaazyyy" which is such a massive step back for the character.

This video is 2 years old, but the member who dies without a flashback (slipknot is his name) was SUPPOSED to get a flashback. He was supposed to be made really unlikable. His flashback was supposed to be all about how he was a kid diddler, but they were worried test audiences would laugh watching his head get blown off when it was supposed to be a more serious moment, so instead, hollywood did what it does best; Hide a prolific child rapist on screen. Edit: Also, the joker point you make about them breaking up WAS supposed to happen. He was actually supposed to throw her from the helicopter trying to kill her, and then he gets shot down. But then Hasbro realized they couldnt sell Daddy's Little Monster cut offs at Hot Topic to teenage girls if there was a truly awful abusive relationship between Harley and Joker. So they scrambled the entire scene to make it seem like him throwing her from the helicopter was to save her.
