This aircraft is PERFECT for what it was made for a domestic regional carrier. 2000-2500 mile range that is wonderful for such a small plane, and it looks real sexy. I like !!!

Very impressive aircraft and very nimble. I was rather surprised when i first read that Sukhoi were dipping into the civilian market but i hope it pays off for them.

It seems that the base variant (seen here) is aimed at the short to medium range market, particularly like the Moscow - Piter shuttle, although Aeroflot does fly it to Germany on occasion for marketing purposes. Other variants are shortly to be in production, with a higher capacity variant and a business jet variant. As for STOL capability, it doesn't appear to fit that category. The wing profile looks wrong and unlikely it is powerful enough when fully loaded.

The Superjet maybe a perfectly good airplane and can make airlines money. However, I worry about Russian maintenance support. In situation of Plane On Ground (POG), airlines need to fix the problems and get the Superjet back into revenue service, where Russian companies are known to have poor support; unlike Airbus and Boeing (including their former McDonnel Douglas jets). That is the key for airline customer. They want reliable airplane and if support isn't there, Russia cannot sell Superjet.

@gonetoworkbbackin5mi No, I am not a pilot, and surely not a flight sim player, however I definitely know more than you about commercial air liners, because I work in an international airport as a traffic manager as well as weight and balance supervisor, and part of my job is to be able to distinguish one plane from the other, something you are clearly unable to do.

@gonetoworkbbackin5mi Russia hasn't copied any aircraft design from the west since the B-29(Tu-4) If you knew anything about aircraft, you'd notice it look much more like an airbus.
